How do I return two values from a stored procedure into an "Execute SQL Task" within SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi,
How do I return two values from a
stored procedure into an "Execute SQL Task" please? Each of these two values need to be populated into an SSIS variable for later processing, e.g. StartDate and EndDate.
Thinking about stored procedure output parameters for example. Is there anything special I need to bear in mind to ensure that the SSIS variables are populated with the updated stored procedure output parameter values?
Something like ?
CREATE PROCEDURE [etl].[ConvertPeriodToStartAndEndDate]
@intPeriod INT,
@strPeriod_Length NVARCHAR(1),
@dtStart NVARCHAR(8) OUTPUT,
@dtEnd NVARCHAR(8) OUTPUT
AS
then within the SSIS component; -
Kind Regards,
Kieran.

Below execute statement should work along the parameter mapping which you have provided. Also try specifying the parameter size property as default.
Exec [etl].[ConvertPeriodToStartAndEndDate] ?,?,? output, ? output
Add a script task to check ssis variables values using,
Msgbox(Dts.Variables("User::strExtractStartDate").Value)
Do not forget to add the property "readOnlyVariables" as strExtractStartDate variable to check for only one variable.

  • Get a return value from a stored procedure.

    hi all ,
    i need to know where i am going wrong with the below code. I am trying to get a value from a stored procedure. the return type is int. The stored procedure works fine as i've debugged it. The variable have been declared correctly.
    int n = 0;
    proc = conn.prepareCall("{ ? = call SP_GETITEMCURRENTSOH(?,?) }");
                proc.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.INTEGER);
                proc.setString(1, locationCode);
                proc.setString(2, itemCode);
                proc.execute();
                n = proc.getInt(1);thanks

    Hi ayub_a,
    According the [ *setString*|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/sql/CallableStatement.html#setString(java.lang.String,%20java.lang.String)] method of the [*CallableStatement*|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/sql/CallableStatement.html] interface, the first parameter must be a parameter name and not an ordinal position index !!!
    Edit : I've just found out the solution, it must be :
    int n = 0;
    proc = conn.prepareCall("{ ? = call SP_GETITEMCURRENTSOH(?,?) }");
                 proc.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.INTEGER);
                 proc.setString(2, locationCode);
                 proc.setString(3, itemCode);
                 proc.execute();
                 n = proc.getInt(1);Edited by: Chicon on Jul 5, 2009 7:48 PM

    hi, i need to return a table from a stored procedure and show it, and come to this, but a don't know hoy to run it, so i don't know if it is right, can anyone help me?

    well, i finally discovered how to do the trick
    this is the code for the function:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION FN_GET_RECORDS RETURN UPTIME PIPELINED IS
    CURSOR cUptime is select * from objects_uptime;
    p refcur.refcur_t;
    temp p%ROWTYPE;

    end REFCUR;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE OUPTIME AS OBJECT ( "OBJ_NAME"

    CREATE TYPE TUPTIME AS
    TABLE OF OUPTIME
    i call it this way:
    select * from table(FN_GET_RECORDS ())
    if anyone knows how to do the same in a shorter manner, tell me please.
    thanks to everybody for the help.

    So, Can you tell me how can I make 'function_name' to return two values using appropriate data-type ( or user defined data type?)?Your example could be solved like this (since it is in pl/sql):
    v_emp_no := function_name( 2345);
    v_flag := function_name_2 ( 2345);
    open o_ref_cursor for select v_emp_no Emp_no , v_flag flag from table1 where x = y;But I guess the example was still too simplicistic.

  • How do I return a value from a column based on info from neighboring columns?

    I have a table of data that looks similar to this:
    Weight
    Name
    School
    Division
    106
    Name1
    School1
    1
    106
    Name2
    School2
    2
    106
    Name3
    School3
    3
    106
    Name4
    School4
    4
    113
    Name5
    School5
    1
    113
    Name6
    School6
    2
    113
    Name7
    School1
    3
    113
    Name8
    School3
    4
    It's a very large table, so there will be multiple matches for Schools, and occasionally a few matches for Names, but there will always be only one match for a given Weight and Division.
    In a separate table, how can I get the name of the person associated with the unique weight and division?
    In my head, the formula goes" "Look in the Weight column to find 106, then look in the Division column to find 4, then return the value from the Name column." But I can't figure out the formula that will do that.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi momogabi,
    This can be easily done with an index column.
    The formula I used in your original table for the index column is:
    =A2&"-"&D2. This was filled down. The column can be hidden.
    You can see the formula in the search table. If I wanted to eliminate the index column in that table the formula would look something like:
    =INDEX('Table 1-1'::B,MATCH(A2&"-"&B2,'Table 1-1'::E,0),1)
    Hope this helps.

  • Newbie question on how to return java objects from java stored procedures

    Hi,
    As you may guess, i'm new to this.
    I have a stored procedure that does some calculations and creates a list of java objects as the result of the query.
    How would I return the list from the database to the client application?
    Would I have to create an Oracle type that maps to the java object?
    Please help.
    Jag

    Hi Jag,
    Your question is very vague (to me). Perhaps you could post what you have done so far? Have you tried looking through the Sample Code page of the Technet Web site, or tried searching the Ask tom Web site, or MetaLink?
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Trying to get a return value from a Stored Procedure

    Hi folks,
    I have been tasked with something I thought was simple, but apparently its not that simple.  I am trying to call a Stored Procedure in UCCX that will do some calculations and returns back an integer value.  The stored procedure call I have is:
    DECLARE @return_status int
    EXEC @return_status = dbo.CTTLoginPhone @CTTId = $EmployeeID , @PIN = $EmployeePIN , @PhoneNumber = $CallingPhoneNumber ;SELECT 'Return_Status' = @return_status
    When I run this in this the editor, I get back one row.  If I run this in the debugger, I do not get any errors back and the stored procedure runs fine, however the Return_Status is not set either.  What am I doing wrong?
    I have defined Return_Status with intial value of 0 and the stored proc should be returning back 1 or 2, but the Return_Status remains as 0
    Can someone please let me know if I need a DB GET after a DB READ or can I just use the DB READ standalone when calling stored procedure.
    All help will be really appreciated.
    Thank you.

    I am having the same issue here... any help would be greatly appreciated. I am on UCCX 8
    I am getting 1 row returned when I click "TEST" in the READ step but the DB GET step is going into the SQL Error branch.
    Here are some details and I have attached screen shots of my script DB steps.....
    I have a Stored Procedure that is very simple...
    CREATE PROCEDURE sp_test AS
    Select 'N';
    GO
    Ive created a dummy table with 1 field..
    TABLE: testTable
    FIELD: code
    Let me know if there are any more details I can provide....

  • Get variable values from a stored procedure

    I am using SQL 2008R2 and I want to replace a view inside a stored procedure with a new stored procedure to return multiple variable values. Currently I am using the code below to get values for 4 different variables.  I would rather get the 4 variables
    from a stored procedure (which returns all of these 4 values and more) but not sure how to do so.  Below is the code for getting the 4 variable values in my current sp.
    DECLARE @TotalCarb real;
    DECLARE @TotalPro real;
    DECLARE @TotalFat real;
    DECLARE @TotalLiquid real;
    SELECT @TotalCarb = ISNULL(TotCarb,0),
    @TotalPro = ISNULL(TotPro,0),
    @TotalFat = ISNULL(TotFat,0),
    @TotalLiquid = ISNULL(TotLiq,0)
    FROM dbo.vw_ActualFoodTotals
    WHERE (MealID = @MealID);

    You can replace the view with inline table valued user-defined function:
    http://www.sqlusa.com/bestpractices/training/scripts/userdefinedfunction/
    See example: SQL create  INLINE table-valued function like a parametrized view

    Can use Java Stored Proc, or an External Proc.
    Java method:
    create or replace and compile Java Source named "OSCommand" as
    -- java:        OS COMMAND

    --                      returncode=-1   Java RTS error occurred (e.g. command does not exist)
    --                      returncode=255  o/s command failed (e.g. invalid command params)
    import java.io.*;
    import java.lang.*;
    public class OSCommand{

                    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
                    int     rc = -1;

                            return( rc+"" );
                    catch (Exception e){
                            e.printStackTrace();
                            return(  "-1\ncommand[" + Command + "]\n" + e.getMessage() );

    create or replace function osexec( cCommand IN string ) return varchar2 is

    OSEXEC('/BIN/DATE')
    Wed Nov  9 13:30:13 SAST 2005
    SQL>Note the Java permissions required - replace FOO with the name of applicable Oracle schema

            dbms_java.grant_permission(
                    'FOO',
                    'SYS:java.io.FilePermission',
                    '<<ALL FILES>>',
                    'execute'
            dbms_java.grant_permission(
                    'FOO',
                    'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission',
                    'writeFileDescriptor',
            dbms_java.grant_permission(
                    'FOO',
                    'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission',
                    'readFileDescriptor',
            commit;
    end;
    /==
    Last thing... note that opens a potential giant size security hole into the Oracle Server Platform. So implement it properly using a proper Oracle security model.

  • How to fetch oracle process id from a stored procedure.

    Hi,
    I want to fetch the oracle process id from within a stored procedure.
    I know that the one way to do this is using the v$process view. But, a grant has to be given to the user on this table. Due to the strict policies at my workplace, I do not have the permission to do this, nor can i ask anyone to give the grant. But, i need the oracle pid very much.
    Is there an alternate way to get the oracle process id from within the stored procedure (without using the v$process view, like we have sys_context() to fetch session id without using v$session) ?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    AP

    Hi,
    The point is i do not want to use v$process ( or v_$process) ,because i can not give the select grant to the user on this view. ( As i need to fetch it from a stored procedure, not from the SQL prompt).
    Rahul , your query is correct. It fetches the values ( though i needed oracle process id not unix pid ; i would get it through p.pid), but i need an alternate approach to this.
    Is there an alternate approach which would enable me to fetch the oracle process id ( without using any of the V$ - system views) ? Does Oracle has such a feature /approach ?

    Hi,

    Hi,
      Use the structure DYNPFLD_MAPPING
    With this internal table you can easily define that you want to return
    other columns of the hit list in addition to field RETFIELD to the
    screen.
    In this IT you can MAP the screen fields to the serch help screen fields this has three fields
    FLDNAME this is the field anme from the search help
    FLDINH This has to be blank which would be field with the field value that you want to map
    DYFLDNAME THis is the screen field name.
    So here you can get the values for the other fields that you want which are on the search help just populate the name of the fields in FLDNAME.

    Where have you got the classes for it? I think the applet doesn't need any kind of initialization, because it doesn't have any variables and all the process is made in the method called by onsubmit()
    The applet is composed only by one class and I'm totally sure that the class is placed in the correct place.

    I would say put in a couple more alerts - one before the call to the applet, one after.
    put some logging statements in your applet to see if it gets there.In the javascript, there are two alerts between the three calls to the applet. Where do you advise me to put more alerts?
    I don't understand what do you refer when you say "logging statements"
    I am going to test again the call to the applet in order to find some kind of code that can be invalid or that can make the function to "crash"

  • How to pass the parameter values to the stored procedure from java code?

    I have a stored procedure written in sqlplus as below:
    create procedure spInsertCategory (propertyid number, category varchar2, create_user varchar2, create_date date) AS BEGIN Insert into property (propertyid, category,create_user,create_date) values (propertyid , category, create_user, create_date); END spInsertCategory;
    I am trying to insert a new row into the database using the stored procedure.
    I have called the above procedure in my java code as below:
    CallableStatement sp = null;
    sp = conn.prepareCall("{call spInsertCategory(?, ?, ?, ?)}");
    How should I pass the values [propertyid, category, create_user, create_date) from java to the stored procedure?[i.e., parameters]
    Kindly guide me as I am new to java..

  • Getting values from a stored procedure with no parameters

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get values out of a stored procedure that I created on SQL server. I'm trying to get XML values out of the database, but I'm not sure how to get any data out of it written to a file if the procedure doesn't have any parameters.
    So I'm just making a call:
    CallableStatement cs = conn.prepareCall("{call myproc}");
    cs.execute();How do I get values back from this stage?
    Thank you very much,
    Lior

    The short form answer, which assumes that the stored procedure is returning the XML as an out parameter would go something like this.
         public void build(String newUserID, String newPassword) throws SQLException {
              String sql = "{ call GET_ITEM_DETAIL(?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) }" ;
              try{
                   init(newUserID, newPassword) ;
                   setCallableStatement(getConnection().prepareCall(sql)) ;
                   getCallableStatement().setInt(1, getItemNumber()) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(2, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.CURSOR) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(3, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.INTEGER) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(4, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.VARCHAR);
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(5, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.VARCHAR) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(6, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.VARCHAR) ;
                   getCallableStatement().execute() ;
                   setSqlResult(getCallableStatement().getInt(3)) ;
                   setSqlMessage(getCallableStatement().getString(4)) ;
                   if( getSqlResult() != 0 ){
                        throw new SQLException(getSqlMessage(), null, getSqlResult()) ;
                   setResultSet((java.sql.ResultSet) getCallableStatement().getObject(2)) ;
                   if( getResultSet() != null ){
                        while( getResultSet().next() ){
                             setItemType(getResultSet().getString("ITEM_TYPE")) ;
                             setItemValue(getResultSet().getString("ITEM_VAL")) ;
                             setDisplayType(getCallableStatement().getString(5)) ;
                             setDisplaySize(Integer.parseInt(getCallableStatement().getString(6))) ;
              catch(SQLException e){
                   java.util.Date now = new java.util.Date() ;
                   java.text.DateFormat format = java.text.DateFormat.getInstance() ;
                   setSqlMessage( e.getClass().getName() + " : " + format.format(now) + " : " + e.getMessage() + " : IN " + getClass().getName() ) ;
                   System.err.println(getSqlMessage()) ;
                   throw e ;
              finally{
                   closeResources() ;
         }The GET_ITEM_DETAIL stored procedure returns several out parameters of various types. The code registers them as out parameters along with an anticipated type and then calls the getXXX(n) method that corresponds with that data type in the appropriate position.
    As I mentioned in my other post, the onus of returning the XML is on the stored procedure, when you get it into Java it's going to be a java.lang.String that you can then parse by whatever means is appropriate to your situation.
