You need to do a full system restore from your last Snow Leopard backup.

  • Time Machine:The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. .....

    Hi,
I upgraded to Mountain Lion when it was released and yesterday I began getting this notice from Time Machine:
"The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup."
I have a one terra external hard drive with exclusively Time Machine.  It says it has 3.4 gigabytes available, but isn't deleting old backups and making room for new, like before.  I tried the "encrypting" solution, but it still keeps on giving me this message.  Should I erase and format?  If so, what option should I chose to format?
My Hard Drive has 240 gigabytes, so 1Tb should be more than enough.
    Thank you!
    Gloria

SuperDuper and Time Machine are two completely different backup utilities. If you want something like what SuperDuper does then don't use Time Machine. You have many other options that won't use up all the space on your backup drive:
    Backup Software Recommendations
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Do the following to erase your drive:
    Erase a Drive
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

Mail doesn't support notes. If you use iCloud, you have them in it because Notes is an application

    Here's the scoop, new friend.....
When you boot into Time Machine you'll get the same OS X Utilities screen as you would if you booted into the Recovery HD. So, from there go into Disk Utilities to erase/format your internal drive. After that's done, back out to the OS X Utilities screen and select the restore option. Just follow the prompts to select the TM back up date you want to restore from and where to restore it to. Pretty straight forward.

  • How do I open my iPhoto from time machine?

I took my Macbook Pro to the apple store last week and they said there was something wrong with my software and that they needed to wipe it clean. I said I'll bring it in next week in order to back up all my photos. So he told me to buy a hard drive and just click on "use as backup drive" and everything will be backed up. I did so, with time machine and took it back in store to get it wiped clean. I asked the person before they wiped my laptop how I would restore my iPhoto back onto my wiped clean mac and she said that all i had to do was connect the hard drive and then drag iPhoto the dock and it will copy and paste. She said it was easy as that and I was relieved. Now I'm trying to do it but I  copied my iPhoto onto the dock as she said and when i click on iPhoto it's empty. My photos are all gone. I'm really scared now because all the photos I took for the last 3 years were on that iPhoto and now I'm afraid I lost them all. Please help!

You were more than somewhat misinformed. Even if that did work it would have imported one library to another, making a significant mess of your iPhoto Library. The person who told you that needs to read some articles on how to restore from Time machine, like this one:

To be clear, the Time Machine drive has all your up-to-date data and has OS X Lion on it? Your iMac currently has a new drive with Snow Leopard on it? If so, yes Lion and all your data will end up back on the iMac.

  • How to import email in Mail from Time Machine to Lion

My laptop, which had Leopard OS, was stolen. Fortunately, I have a Time Machine backup. I used that to install on my new laptop which has Lion (10.7.4). In Mail, my folders show up, but not the email in them. How do I get the email from Time Machine? (Current email is working. That is, email since I got the new laptop.)

Don't try to restore the file; restore the Note. Go in Mail to the mailbox where the note belongs. Enter Time Machine from there and step back until you find the Note.

  • How to manually retrieve mail messages from time machine in Lion?

I just did a clean reinstall on Lion and want to import things from time machine piecemeal.  As far as I know, in order to access the mail documents on the computer's hard drive, in the Finder I need to go to Go-->Go to Folder... and then type ~/Library.  Then I have access to the "Mail" folder with the data.  How can I access this folder that's on my external harddrive?  I don't have the "Go" function and I don't know how to get there manually.  My hidden files are shown.

The best way to restore mails is to use Time Machine.
    1. Open System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Disk, select the external disk and see > http://pondini.org/TM/E3.html
    2. Open Mail and open Time Machine. Navigate and restore the mails you want

How do I reinstall photoshop C6 from time machine

Which version of mac os x does your new mac have?
Actually photoshop elements 6 should work on modern intel macs.
The only problem is that adobe doesn't have photoshop elements 6 installers available anymore, though there may be a chance to get the pse 6 installer if you bought pse 6 as a download from adobe
and login to your adobe account using the same user id and password as you did back then.
Otherwise hopefully you have the photoshop elements 6 install dvd.

  • How do you retrieve individual files from Time Machine?

If a file original is lost or becomes corrupted, is there anyway to retrieve that individual files from Time Machine? If so, how?

Time Machine finds that file, and not other files that meet the criteria. BUT...
That's not what TM was doing. My search criteria was "by filename", however when I try to go backwards in TM, that limit is lost and it appears to be returning every file in the rolled-up weekly archive. This is especially odd, because I have since determined that the file was actually corrupted before TM was running, so there should be only one version of the file in TM's archives.
No, it was a file sitting on my disk. Email was mentioned, because the fact that every email in every junk folder appears as a separate item to be restored, which is what triggers that little "too many files to show you at one time" issue.
So your name search returned lots of junk mail items. I shudder to think what the file name was that you were searching for! <g>
Also: you can tell Time Machine to ignore your junk mail if you've filtered the junk mail in Mail into a different folder/box.
I figured that one out. I had used Spotlight to find the junk mailboxes, but couldn't, only the messages "labeled" junk. I had to use 'find' in Terminal.app to actually find Mail's junk & spam folders.
Yeah, it's hard to find stuff when you don't know where it is <g>. In general, though, for these kinds of things, always think: "Library" which is where SO many pieces of programs are stored. Of course, there's lots of Library folders, so your first job is to decide: system or user level? Realizing more than one user account could have email setups, you can assume the path you need starts at the User level. So, you start at Home[UserName]/Library. Scanning that Library folder, you see a Mail folder (aha!). Checking out that folder, you might first suspect the Mailboxes subfolder, but you'll soon see that it has the mailboxes you've defined for sorting your mail; so, you continue to scan the Mail folder and you see a folder with your email address on it (or multiple folders, one for each of your emails). Open one of those and, ta da! You see something labeled junk.mbox.
You've already found your Junk mail, of course, but I'm suggesting this as a general approach, especially for other readers of this thread, who might not want to touch Terminal.
But, back to one of your initial problems: TM seemed to lose your search criteria. Do you think it was related to the high number of " hits"? Does it work for you otherwise, when you search for something less general?

Is it possible to move the data from the time capsule to my wifes Imac, until I purchase my new computer? Can the time capsule share data between two machines, or only onto a new machine?
If there's room, sure. You can "migrate" your user account to her Mac.
On her Mac, using an existing account on it, start up the +Migration Assistant+ app, in her Applications/Utilities folder. Select +From a Time Machine backup or other disk+ and click Continue.
You'll then see a list of everything the Mac can find that might be a source; your Mac's backups should be listed. Select them and Continue.
On the next page, select the user(s) you want. You can select or omit the top-level folders for each user, but not pick and choose inside them.
You probably don't want to select apps or settings. If you need some apps, that's a bit tricky; post back with details.
My wifes Imac already has a backup through the time machine.
You'll need to decide what you want Time Machine to do with your account on her Mac. If there's room on your TC, let TM back up normally; the first one will do a full backup of everything you just moved. Subsequent backups will, of course, be incremental.
When you get your Mac back, you'll have to be careful what, how, and from where you restore, but we can dig into that later.
