How do I see my iMAC on the network

I have both PC as well as iMAC connected on the network. I can see the PC on my iMAC - no problems. But I can't see the iMAC on my PC. I 'shared' my files on the MAC for FTP access (tried with AFP & SMB as well), then browsed the network places on my PC (as well as put the ftp address), but can't see the MAC.

I'm thinking that it might be the same as my problem. Have you shut down/restarted your iMac at any point after successfully sharing files? If yes, then you have to go back to -system preferences-sharing-internet sharing- and click on it again to start it up even though the box is checked and it looks like it is on. I shut down my iMac every night (to save on electricity) so this somehow disconnects my saved network.

This is a new problem as I have been able to share files before and I don't believe that anything has changed in my setup. File sharing is on and I have tried with and without firewall. I have also tried turning things on and off again, and re-detecting the network. No joy. It is set to share files and folders using SMB or AFP in preferences. Any ideas please?

and another thing. The iMac won't connect to my ipad when I try to connect to server that way round. It almost feels as if they don't believe they are on the same netwrok, but they are!

No clue what changed or what happened. I had it set up fine and up until the last day or so, my Imac was showing up in the Finder shared section on both of my Macbooks and I was doing backups via Airport from the Macbooks to the external drive connected to my iMac. Now the whole thing is down. No shared section on either of the Macbooks and the Time Machine backups fail because it can't find my external drive.
In my file sharing preferences on the iMac, I have my LaCie external drive and my public folder listed as shared folders, and I have my account, the user accounts from both Macbooks, Users, Administrators and Everyone selected under users with read and write access.
I have no idea what went wrong and would sure appreciate any advice on this. Thanks Much.

This is just a hint. Have you recently rename your Computer Name? I have had a problem to see PC computers on my local intranet. I got no problem to connect to all PCs thru IP address but they were not visible on my mac mini or iBook under Shared. When I renamed my Computer Name back to one which I've had before everything come back to normal. (I've had renamed name of my mac mini which I used to configure my AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express base stations. My guess, network configuration in Leopard is very sensitive to computer which you using in the first place to configure your local network) This is just a guess,see if it will help you. Good luck!

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

But when I pull up my Inspector, I only have options to change the background color or the Duration. I have no options for speed, etc. Please help!

I use a lot of popups. Somewhere in my sheets I have a column that contains the data that each popup is based on. This is nessasary for me because those popups need to be updated from time to time. So I would copy and print/paste that column. Another way would be to just take a screenshot:
If you want something that will update when the popup is changed Numbers doesn't even do that within the app.

I have several entries (too many) on calendars created prior to iCloud. They are listed as calendars 'On My Mac'. How can I get this information to my phone? I understand that iCloud makes On My Mac calendars obsolete?
I use my phone calendar to see my duties for the day, and only add entries if I'm out and on the fly. These I don't mind typing into the iCloud calendars. But my regular process when I'm sitting in front of the computer is to add them via iCal using the On My Mac calendars created years ago, over time. I need to see this information while on the go. How can I?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Create a new empty calendar from the iCal file menu, select which account you want to create it in.
If you have only a few appointments you can move them individually by editing them and changing the calendar in the edit options.
Alternatively you can copy all the appointments in one calendar to another and delete the original.
To copy a calendar ctrl-click on it from the menu that appears when you select the calendar button (top left corner of iCal) and choose export (export it to your desktop for ease)
Double click the exported file and choose the new empty calendar to import them into.
Ctrl-click on the original calendar from the menu that appears when you select the calendar button and choose delete.

After setting up my brand new Airport Express 802.11n and accidentally using it to connect my iMac to the network...my iMac no longer connects through Ethernet? Any ideas...I have tried everything without success!!

I have been using Apple technology for about 10 years starting with 1st generation iPods and our house now includes a 5 year old iMac, all versions of iPods and touches, Apple TVs (both generations) and most recently an iPad 2. I have always told family and friends that Apple technology just works. Unfortunately that stopped today. I bought a new Airport Express 802.11n to use for AirTunes around my new pool. I set it up from my iMac and accidentally used it to connect my iMac to the network for a short time. Now I can no longer connect the iMac to the network using a hard wired Ethernet cable. I have tried resetting everything possible, from hubs to routers to the Mac itself and it just will not connect to the network through Ethernet any longer. I am now a very frustrated Apple user especially when the support site says I can't use the fast path support because my product was manufactured 5 years ago...I just bought it at BestBuy yesterday. All other computers and itechnology in the house are connecting via wifi and Ethernet without any issue except from my new iMac boat anchor. Anybody who can help me??? Thanks

I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical. I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar. In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both. I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail. I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
Thoughts???

Windows 8.1 does not recognize Sierra LTE mobile braodband on my Tecra Z50-A.
There is no software on the support site of Toshiba. Neither Sierra Drivers nor AirCard watcher.
Can not see the hardware in my hardware manager.
