How do I select multiple clips in the timeline!?

Ok, not quite as simple as the subject! This is what I want to do:
Just finished a multi camera edit and I now need to color correct and grade the footage. So, now that I've corrected the color on camera angle number 1 I want to apply that effect to all the clips in the timeline that come from that camera angle. How do I apply that effect to all those clips without having to do some manually. In FCP its possible to search for all timeline clips that come from a specific file. When those are highlighted it's possible to paste an effect onto all those clips.
So, how do I do that in Premiere Pro CS5?
Thanks!
Bradley

Had to create proxies of my Canon 7d footage to achieve smooth playback but it's worked out fairly well so far!
I'm surprised that the DSLR Preset for the Canon footage still required proxy files. I thought that would handle the 5D/7D MOV files just fine. Maybe I was mis-informed.
The good news is that it's working for you, so things are good.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • How do I select multiple clips in a timeline in the reverse direction, e.g. middle to front?

I know how to click "a" and select clips in the timeline looking forward, but how do we select multiple clips from a middle point to the front of the timeline?  I don't want to be lassoing -- is there some other way?

    Hi denniscallan,
Please check the track selection tool. Refer to the link below for more information about the tools section.

  • How can I select multiple clips in the event browser?

I can't seem to figure out how to do something that should be pretty simple. I want to select multiple clips in the event browser that aren't next to each other. Right now it's only letting me select the two clips with every other clip in between. Is there a keyboard function that will allow me to deselect the clips in between while leaving the two on the outside selected? In Apple's finder you can do this with files by holding down shift-command while clicking on the ones you want. Or is there away to rearrange clips in the event browswer?
I'd like to be able to create a multicam clip, but there is always going to be other media in between the clips I want to combine, so how can I select only the clips I want?
    Thanks!

Holding the Command key should let you select non-contiguous items, just as in the Finder.

  • How do I join 2 clips in the timeline so that they "snap" together?

This is probably a very, very simple answer, but I cannot get it to work right. Here's my situation.
I trimmed a clip. So now there is a gaping hole in my timeline. Sure, I could drag the other after it until it matches up and plays continously with the one previous. However, I divided my clip into multiple clips and if that were the only solution I would have to drag the following to the one before it....for each one!
So I guess my question is 2-fold. How do I select multiple clips (everything after the cut?)...and then make them match up to the clip before the "gaping hole", so that there is not just blank footage for a couple seconds?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Joost!! It was driving me nuts! And it makes me feel a little better that Manuel was stumped also
You guys hit the nail on the head. With the integration with Premeire now, I have already heard some people switch from Resolve and start using Speedgrade. Now if only the mask issues can be addressed
For what it's worth I may have beaten you to it (sort of). Look on YouTube for Speedgrade CC quick guide and zombie (don't ask, you'll see)
That said, I'd love to see what you come out with, and apparently it's time for me to come out with a "part 2". Thanks again!!

  • How do I hide a clip in the timeline?

How do I hide a clip in the timeline?  In the old version, at the far left of the timeline, there was a green button with a filmstrip icon. Clicking that toggled the clip on and off to let me see the clip below it.  Where is that button now?
    FCP X 10.1.1
    Mac OS 10.9.1
iMac 3.2 Ghz Intel Core i5
    shoe size 10.5

I have the full version of FCP-X on a new Mac.  I still have my old FCP-6 on my old Mac.
I have something in FCP-X that looks like rows (tracks) in the timeline.  I have several clips that form a horizontal line and directly under that is another horizontal row of clips.  I call them rows or tracks.  Maybe that is not the correct term.  I just tried to create additional rows, and created six tracks (horizontal rows) each containing multiple clips.  FCP plays only the top clip, which is the same as the old version.
I have found a way to disable a single clip, but what I want to do, and it was as easy as pressing the green button in FCP-6, is to temporarily disable the entire row of clips.
Often I have multiple cameras shooting the same event.  I want to quickly disable one camera view and see the one below it.  If the video is chopped up into small segments, then It would take too long to disable each clip individually.
I wish they would have kept the old features when they upgrade the software.

  • Adjusting audio of multiple clips in the timeline simultaneously

Is there a way to adjust the audio volume of multiple clips in the timeline simultaneously?

Or you can send the whole things over to Audition and work in multitrack there.
I like to get everything edited in Prmiere and then send the audio (I never bother with a refernce video) to Audition for finish work.  There you can apply effects to individual clips, individual tracks or the entire mix.  I always put a hard limiter on the Master track at -3dB to prevent clipping.  Since this is the last filter in the chain I can boost other clips first and still know that my audio will never be too loud

  • Keyframed lens flare across multiple clips in the timeline?

How can  I apply a keyframed lens flare that continues across multiple clips in my timeline?
Using keyframes I am trying to have a lens flare travel across several clips in my timeline as one contiunes movement.
Back in the day (before elements) i could do this in Premiere using something called virtual clips (I think).
Thanking you in adavance for any help on this or "virtual clips"

    Welcome to the forum.
Premiere Pro allows for Transparent Video (think the opposite of Black Video, in both PrPro and PrE), but PrE does not have that feature. You are probably thinking of Sub-Clips, also not available directly in PrE.
Steve's method will work, but here is another to consider:
Place the WAB (Work Area Bar) over those particular contiguous Clips, and then Publish+Share (for PrE 11, or Share for PrE 7 - 10), and export those contiguous Clips to an AV file. The choice of Publish+Share settings will depend on what you have for your Source Footage, and what your Project's Preset is. If you are working with, say AVCHD, then doing the Publish+Share to matching H.264 will probably be what you want.* In the Publish+Share dialog, make sure to check Work Area, to limit that to JUST the area defined by the WAB. Import that output file into your Project, and replace those edited Clips with it. Apply your Keyframed Lens Flare to that Clip. That is basically a manual Sub-Clip, but with a few more steps, than in PrPro.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do I locate a clip in the timeline from the browser

I am using FCE and I know that I can locate a clip from the timeline by using shift F.
I want to check on a clip in the browser and find where it is in the timeline. How do I do that?

Open the clip from the browser into the viewer. Press the F key. If the clip is used in the timeline, the playhead will move to the clip.

  • How can I lock video clips to the timeline?

    Hello Apple discussion.
I know that holding down the command key disable ripping when triming.
But that doesn't work when deleting clips. It would be useful to lock videoclips to the timeline, so they keep their position.
Lock audio to playhead doesn't help the situation.
    Thank you for your time
    Attila

You cannot lock a video clip to the timeline. The program is designed so that when you delete a video clip, the other clips slide over to fill the gap. Otherwise you would have holes all over your project, or have to manually move them over. You would want to lock the audio clips to the non-deleted video clips, so that the audio slides over with them.
If you want to preserve the gap left by a deleted video clip, first insert in front of it a black clip of the same exact duration, and then delete the video clip. The black clip would hold all of the other clips in position, but leave you with a black hole to fill or delete. To make a black clip, separate two video clips on the timeline, and control-click on the empty space. In the resulting drop down menu, select Convert Empty Space to Clip. Then control-click on the black clip and in the resulting window adjust the time duration by overwriting the values in the time box and then clicking the Set button.

  • How do I duplicate a clip from the timeline?

In a sports video I want to duplicate a clip to the project files, then stretch the time of the clip to slow motion, add a title that says " Let's watch that in slow motion" and then insert the slow motion clip after the original clip to make sort-of an instant replay for my grandson. I don't know how to duplicate the clip and put it in "project files" and I'm not sure the best way to make the file a slow motion file. I've looked at the "Help" section but for some reason the blue links there don't function to lead me to the video clips of explanation.

You may be over thinking this. There are easier ways. Jim's way is simple to use.
    Or, how about this instead?
Put the clip on the timeline at full speed, then put it on the timeline again, and stretch the time to show it at 25% speed (for example). Put the title over the slower clip and that's it.
This example video shows me putting the video on the timeline, then putting in a title I have already prepared over a copy of the clip held on the last frame, then the same video but set for slow motion using Time Remapping.
If the clip had been longer, I would have eased into the slow motion gradually over the first three seconds or so, but this clip just wasn't long enough for that.

  • How can I move a clip on the timeline less than one frame?

I need to move an audio clip on the timeline to match the video but it snaps one frame at a time and I need to move it less than that.?

    I've just had a look.
    Try
    Edit
    Keyboard Shortcuts
    Panels
    Program Monitor Panel
    Program Monitor Panel Menu
    You should then find this:
You can then set up your preferred shortcut key.

  • In FCPX, how do I use multiple clips of the same event?

This is a beginner question, but having recently moved from Final Cut Express to FCPX, I am having trouble using 3 clips (church play, 3 cameras) of the same event (and reading through the manual has not helped me). I have lined them up in the timeline, one "on top" of the other, but the viewer only shows the top clip. I would like to see what the other clips look like and use the cutting tool and opacity (which I found) to choose the best view (and move between the clips lined up with the audio). It feels like I am trying to use an old work flow on a new product. How do I view the all the clips and move between them?

Here is one of those free tutorials (in two parts), which , IMO, is particularly good.
There is also, of course, more comprehensive paid training available that may better fit your needs.
    Good luck.

  • How do you select multiple emails from the contacts book.

Using 10.8.4. I would like to use mail and select multiple email address' from the contacts book to send the same message to multiple persons. I thought I used to be able to select more than one at a time from my contacts book. Am I crazy or did they change the way it works from the previous version of software.
Or, could you go to the contacts book and email from there. Either way it seems like it was easy to do and now I have to select one at a time and keep going back to the contacts/address book for another name.

    Hi shelereric,
Once you open a new message, you should be able to just start typing the first letters of the contact's name, and Mail should give you a dropdown to select from:
So, you should not have to go back and forth between your contacts and mail....anyone in your address book should show up on the dropdown as well as anyone you have received emails from or sent emails to even if they are not in your contacts....
Is that not what is happening for you? Are you using the Mail app on the Mac?
    Cheers,

  • How can I select multiple files in the Import grid view in LR4?

So far the only way I have discovered is to laboriously click the checkbox on each image I want to import. It seems that one should be able to select a range with one click (e.g. holding down Shift and then clicking the last image in the range) or by using a context (right-click) menu. No dice. What gives?

I think two differeng groups of developers on two different planets designed the Library vs the Import views -- they sure are different!!
I can answer your question because I had the same question and spent weeks clicking each individually.
First ignore the checkboxes.  Then use click, ctrl+click, shift+click to select the thumbnails (NOT the Checkboxes, which is why I said to forget them for now!!)
When you have selected what you want, find one of the selected photos and click its checkbox one way or the other, each click selects or deslects all the "selected" photos.

  • How can I replace multiple clips in my timeline w/ an edited version of their original source file

I have a single audio .wav file that I've already cut up and assembled in in my timeline. If I want to do a noise reduction for the full .wav file in Adobe Audition, is there a way to perform the noise reduction only once, on the original .wav file, and then ensure that the new "audio extracted" file replaces all of the related subclips in clips in my timeline? I'm trying to avoid performing the same noise reduction on multiple subclips, when they originally all came from the same file anyway. I also want to avoid the clutter of adding a bunch more "audio extracted" files to my media.
In the future, I'll probably need to change my workflow so that I perform the noise reduction first! But in the meantime, is there a clean/ simple way to retroactively do the edit, and replace the edited .wav file with it's respective subclips?
    Thanks!
    Alex

This assumes that the .wav file in question
is only used by itself on its own audio track.
If there are other audio elements mixed on the track(s) along with
the .wav file the OP wants to treat with noise reduction, this method
will require "un-editing" the track(s) before you isolate for export.
