How do I set Firefox 4 to automatically start in 16-bit mode?

Certain web sites I use daily require Firefox 4 to be started in 16-bit mode. How do I set Firefox 4 to automatically start in 16-bit mode?

Do you mean 32 bit mode as opposed to the default 64 bit mode?
# Close Firefox
# Open the Applications folder in Finder
# Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
# Select "Get Info"
# Select or Deselect "Open in 32-bit mode"
# Close the "Firefox Info" window
# Restart Firefox

  • How can I set Firefix to always start in 32-bit mode?

Running FF 4.0.1 on OS X 10.6.7. Apparently defaults to start 64-bit mode. This doesn't work with an extension needed for Netflix streaming, requiring restart in 32-bit mode. How can I set FF to start in 32-bit mode in the first place? (And what would I miss out on if I did that?)

Other users should note that Firefox has public release versions of 64bit only for Mac And Linux; not for Windows, yet.

  • How do I prevent Firefox from automatically starting when I boot-up my Mac in the morning?

Whenever I boot up my Mac in the morning Firefox automatically starts and displays my home page. I would only like to see the desk top with no applications running. I am running OSX 10.4.11 on my laptop.
== Started possibly a few weeks ago.

Hmm.. Okay I've done a bit more digging and tried the following two things before the last restart.. Not sure which one actually worked but give these a shot (one at a time) and let us know which is the ''actual'' solution! :)
    1. Open Safari -> Preferences -> General
    - change "Default Web Browser" to Safari
    - Close all applications
    - Relaunch Safari and change default browser back to Firefox.
    2. Remove the check from "Reopen windows when logging in" in the logout dialog and logout of the computer..
I suspect step 2 is actually the proper solution, but I did both so, hopefully one of them works for everyone else!

  • How do I set Firefox to automatically open downloads instead of having to go to my downloads and double click to open?

Whenever I have used Firefox on a PC it at least gave me the option to open certain file types automatically. I download a lot of files and the time adds up when I have to open the downloads box and double click on the file each time.

  • How do I set Firefox to automatically view text files in my browser window? Sometimes FF insists on downloading them instead.

I use my browser to monitor real time data streams (oceanography) and want to be able to view processing log files directly in my browser window. I have symbolic links from these logs (*.log) to my web server's document directory, using .txt as a file extension for the link (e.g. procdir/argos.m.log -> webdocs/argos_m_log.txt).
Some of these files will display in the browser window, but sometimes FF insists on downloading them instead. The only difference I can see betweens ones that work and those that don't (looking at the original log files) is that the "file" command shows some to be 'ASCII English text' and some (the ones that won't display) to be 'data'. I assume this means there's one or more unprintable characters in the source file - but I'd still like to view these directly in my browser window.

Prefix the link with the view-source: protocol (don't put a space between the protocol and the http link).

  • How do I set Firefox to automatically open documents after download is complete?

Currently, the way it is is setup causes the attachment to download, then the downloads go to my download folder on my desktop. To open a downloaded document, I open that folder then click on the document. I seem to remember a time when clicking on the attachment brought up a dialogue box giving user choice of saving or opening ... if the choice is no longer, I would like to simply open.

  • How do I stop firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a textbox?

How do I stop Firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a text box? On certain pages such as Google.com the cursor will be moved to the search text box automatically after a couple seconds from the page loading. So I'll be typing in the address bar or something and then half of what I am typing in the address bar becomes cut off and starts being entered in the Google.com text box for search. The same happens on Facebook.com and the cursor is automatically moved to the Status Update text box. I assume this is a built in "feature" of the web page, but it's damn annoying. Especially when I start typing in my status update box on Facebook before the page completely loads and then halfway through typing (once the page is done loading) my cursor is moved to the starting position of the text area and my text is cut off.
Just the be clear the actual mouse pointer isn't being moved, just the prompt for entering text.
    How can this be stopped?

    Every time Firefox opened
== Started since I can remember

This problem has grown worse over the last couple of years. I use Firefox on Mac and Windows. I consider this problem to be a bug. Here's why: Event Driven interfaces, e.g., OSX and Windows, are never supposed to change typing-cursor focus WHILE SOMEONE'S TYPING!!!
Firefox allows websites to change focus WHILE USERS TYPE!
Hey, sorry for the caps, but I haven't used those for awhile and that's kind of fun. But really, more and more websites steal typing-cursor focus WHILE USERS TYPE.
Efff them, but really, Eff Firefox for allowing this.
It's almost like a symptom of our hyper scattered age where our attention jumps here and there.
But really... I love Firefox, some of my best friends are Firefox, they're good people, don't get me wrong, but damn it, WHEN SOMEONE IS TYPING THE UNASSAILABLE RULE OF EVENT DRIVEN DESIGN IS NOTHING ELSE SHOULD CHANGE FOCUS WHILE SOMEONE IS TYPING!!!!
    FIX THIS PLEASE.
Oh, I just ran out of capital letters. :) :) :)

  • How do I configure Firefox to automatically open the latest version of a web site instead of a cache version

I can not work out how to set Firefox to automatically load the latest version of a web site. I have web sites in my bookmarks and it does not look on the internet for the latest version and furthermore using F5 does not work . I need to be able to find a way to have it auto set to look for the latest version live on the internet.

  • How can I set Firefox to print to PDF, the only otions I have are (1) My Canon printer, (2) Fax or (3) Microsoft XPS document writer. There is no option for PDF

A couple of weeks ago, from the file menu, in my print options was to print a web page to PDF, that facility is no longer there. does anyone know how can I set Firefox to print to PDF.
The only options I have are (1) My Canon printer, (2) Fax or (3) Microsoft XPS document writer. There is no option for PDF

Firefox generally displays the printers in Windows' Printers folder (Start orb > Devices and Printers). If it is missing one of the printers listed there, could you indicate which one it is, for example, Adobe Distiller, PrimoPDF, CutePDF Writer, etc.?
If you previously had an add-on which added print-to-PDF functionality just to Firefox, perhaps it got disabled. You could check here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions
Also, are you really running Firefox 8.0.1? That version from last November is no longer secure and has been superseded by Firefox 11. If you browse the web widely, you should update for your security.

  • How do i set up and automatic out of the office message while I am away on vacation?

How do I set up an automatic out of the office reply while I'm on vacation?

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access web mail, you need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Thunderbird, see this forum for support.

Thanks, Ronda! I haven't been able to try your suggestion because I fried my router! So I need to get a new wireless router before proceeding.
(I may start a new thread about getting a new router, but I will look for answers first to my questions and only start one if I cannot find answers.)
After I get a new router, I will try what you suggested and report back here.

You installed the ReloadEvery Extension rather and not downloaded it to disk.

  • How can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air?

how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
Apart from that, when you go to  > Shut Down, or  > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup

How do I set Firefox to be usable for all users on one computer?

I would think the about:config entries discussed are ex-factory set to values each user has to change individually, after the installation has run its course. The solution could be to have patched files ready to install post factum:

  • ¿How do I set the calendar to start week on Monday and not Sunday in my iphone?

¿How do I set the calendar to start week on Monday and not Sunday in my iphone?

The jewish calendar does not have names for the days of the week. The week ends with the holy Sabbath (Saturday) and therefore the Sunday is the first days after Sabbath (Yom Rishon), the Monday the second day after Sabbath (Yom Sheini), etc.
The Christians believe that Christ was raised on the first days of the week (Mathew 28:1, et al) AFTER the Sabbath was over. So their holy day is the Sunday and the working week starts on a Monday.
The business days in the western world are numbered starting with the Monday as day number 1 (Timetables of Airlines, Calendars, even Microsoft Windows...).
Unfortunately in the United States religious freedom extends to a level which is not understood easily by the rest of the world. Since the MAC OS X allows to change the first day from a Sunday to a Monday, one might wonder why Apple decided to give the iPhone a jewish touch.
It could be supposed that this is the way of the least resistance. Only few complain about this issue, but if it were the other way around a lot of people would complain...
PS: I agree with the others here: It is very, very annoying and more than once I entered an appointment into the wrong day...;-)
