How do I share certain albums in my iphoto library with other users....

without using the fast user switching/sharing preference in iphoto?
I have about 12,000 photos in my library of which about 6000 are for work. I would like to share all of my non work photos with the other users on my imac. I would rather not use the fast user switching and keep the iphoto application open for all the users. I would like to either import only selected albums to the user account or add them to the shared folder for their access. How can I export/import only the albums I wish to share without having to do it manually for each? Should I make a copy of the library, add it to the other users accounts and then delete the photos? Or can I put the library in the shared folder and limit access to certain albums? I don't think it would make too much sense to have a duplicate library since I only have about 10GB left on my HD.

With iPhoto 6 you can place the source files, i.e. exported the full sized files for those albums you want to share, in appropriately names folders in the Shared folder. Then have each user create an new library with iPhoto's alias mode, i.e. create alias files of the source files instead of copying the a full sized version into the library. This way each of the other users can have a working library and you only have to have one copy of each file on the HD. Saves a lot of space. Any edits that one user performs will not be seen by the other users. If a user delete a photo from their library only the alias files is deleted. The source files are untouched.
The downside to this method is if you add a file(s) to the Shared folder each of the other users will have to import that file into their own library. An easy way around that is to always put new photos in new folders and let the others know there are new ones to import. You could also divide your library up into to two, keeping your work library a conventional one and removing the "shared" source photos and have a similar alias based library for the personal photos that are in the Shared folder. Then use iPhoto Library Manager or iPhoto Buddy to quickly switch between the two. I have 7 libraries that I use iPLM to switch between. It's very convenient and fast. If you want to convert over entirely to an alias system, both work and personal, here's a way to retain the keywords you've assigned to them. See tutorial #2 here.

How to share administrator iPhoto library with other users on same iMac?

This is the part I'm referring to:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
The library stays in the Pictures folder for this.

  • How do I share one Iphoto library with other User accounts on the same iMac

I have created a shared Iphoto Library. When I add this to one of the user accounts, it copies all the pictures instead of sharing the same library. The result is that it uses memory.
Is it possible to create a shared library that is shared by all the users without actually copy all the pictures to each users Iphoto library?

    Hi MikaelK,
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • How do I share a playlist from my itunes library with another user on the same computer?

I would like to share a playlist with another uuser on the same computer.  We have separate itunes libraries on the same computer. How do gey my playlist from my library to hers?

I'm not sure, but maybe if you activate home sharing. It should also share playlists, not only files.
The only other way I can think of is to export the playlist and import for the other user.

  • Can I share my iPhoto library with other users accounts on my computer?

My wife and I both have our own user account on the computer. Right now all the photos are on my account. If we put the iPhoto library in users/shared will this allow us both to access the photos?
    Thanks.

Yes, this is exactly how I use iPhoto on my system.
You do need to update the permissions on the iPhoto directory after it's moved to the Shared folder. the default permissions will only permit your account to fully access the files, your wife's account will get errors or not see thumbnails correctly when accessing the pictures from iPhoto in her account.
After moving the iPhoto Library into Shared (and with iPhoto closed), Get Info on the iPhoto Library folder and change the Others access to Read+Write. Let it apply to all enclosed folders, also. Then hold down the Option key while starting iPhoto and choose the Shared version of the folder as your Library. Repeat the iPhoto launch w/option key on the other account as well and each user will access the same set of pictures, albums, keywords, etc. Just make sure you don't open iPhoto from both accounts at the same time. Close iPhoto before walking away from the computer or letting the other person logon.

  • How do i share my itunes library with other users on the same mac

I'm trying to share my itunes library with other users on the same mac.  I have tried moving my library to a public folder but when the other user logs in they can't see it in the public folder?

Presuming you moved the entire iTunes folder to the shared folder the other users need to start their iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and select the iTunes Library.itl file in the shared folder.  Only once should be necessary.  Note that any changes anybody makes will be seen by everybody, so you have to trust each other a lot.
If all you moved are media files each user will have to add those files to their iTunes library.

  • How do I share files uploaded into the Creative Cloud with other creative cloud members?

How do I share files uploaded into the Creative Cloud with other creative cloud members?

    Should be easy.  Try this...
In Thumbnails view, click the little triangle (pointing downward) in the lower-right corner of the asset you want to share.
In the blue icon bar that appears, click the Share icon (the third icon from the left, just right of the trash icon). The Share dialog should pop up.
In the Share dialog, enter the email address of the person with whom you want to share the asset, then click the Send Email button - they'll receive an email with a link to your asset. OR
You can also copy a link to the asset and then paste that into your own email client if you prefer.  To do that, click the Link icon (looks like a "chain", and is to the right of the email "envelope" icon) - then click the Copy Link button.
Note that the Share options won't be available if your asset is set to "Private" - you can control whether an asset can be viewed (or downloaded) by others by clicking the Public/Private control (green or red "lock" icon).
You can also access the same Share controls if you click on the file to see it one-up (you can do this from either Thumbnails view or List view); click the Share icon near the upper right corner of the browser window (to the right of the asset name).
    Hope that helps.

  • How do i share my movie i have on imoivie with other divices? or how to i put in on the smartboard

how do i share my movie i have on imovie with other divices? or how to i put it on the smartboard at school??

    - You can AirPlay it on an Apple TV or other device that supports AirPlay
    - You can connect an adopter and connect the iPod to a TV
    - You can import the move to your computer and then do what you want to do with it.
    - If your school's SmartBoard supports uploading from an iOS device (iPod touch, iPhone or iPad) you can directly upload to the board. Otherwise you will have to transfer to computer to upload to the board.
    - Transfer the the movie to DropBox or similar cloud serve and then distribute how you wish.

What is the best way to do it?
Place an alias in my "shared" folder and access this with the applications from the different accounts ? This seems to workt for the itunes library, at least... Or do I have to mess with the righs managent ?
I dont want screw up my nice mac...

Hi... and thanx for your help...
I did not think that I would have to mess with my firewall, as long as I am talking of useres on the same computer, but I guess I was wrong.
Your advice helps very much, but only as long as I am still logged in with my user name. I does not work when only my kids are logged in. There has to be a way to use these libraries without the need to log in the user that has created those folders...
    Hmmm
    Thanx for your help

  • Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac

Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac?

Apparently so (as long as each user operates out of a different Mac User account).
After setting up home sharing in the various different user accounts on the Mac, you need to have iTunes open in the account that you want to Home Share from.
Now use fast User Switching to get into the account that you want to Home Share to. Launch iTunes in there. The library in the other account should appear as shared for you.

  • How to share iPhoto library with other ID

i'm sure there is similar post/response to this but been trolling the message boards and can't find a similar situation.
    the scenario goes like this.
    - single macbookpro 10.7.2
    - user1 is primary/admin user in which is owner of laptop
    - pictures are in iPhoto v9.2 under user1
    - user1 does all the pic uploads/edits/etc as the primary user of the macbook
    - user1 is not a hardcore photo editor type and just primarily uses iPhoto for basic cropping and organization/viewing
    - pics sync to user1 iPhone/iPad(iOS5) via PhotoStream and sync'ing of albums
    - wife has her own iPhone, separate apple ID and uses user2 on the same macbookpro above that user1 is using
what we are trying to get done...
    - wife wants to be able to see albums on her iPhone and also have ability from laptop/iPhone to select pics to upload into her facebook as needed
    - bonus would be if wife can also view my/user1 PhotoStream
looking for any assistance on how to get this done painlessly with least possibility in corrupting iPhoto library in which user1 uses and avoid having to create/copy all pics into user2 iphoto library and waste HD space.
if it is easier to re-send a link to someone else that has conquered similar challenge, pls send across.  much appreciated.

The thing is, the whole point of having separate accounts is to keep your data seprate from hers. So, any attempt to overcome this can be kludgy.
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder. (I would note that some Lion users are finding Permissions issues with this.)
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How Do I Share My Iphoto Library with another USer

I have iPhoto5 on iMacG5. I share the computer with my wife and she has a seperate log in as a seperate user. My question is how to I share my iPhoto Library and albums with her on her user page?
    iMacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The article states "Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items."
That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm giving EVERYBODY full read and write permission by "Ignoring Ownership" on an entire drive. Incidentally, this can also be done on a partition.
An example would be you would be able to edit a photo that you have downloaded i your user but not the other user.<<<</div>
My wife and I have been doing that on a regular basis for several years and have never had an issue.
    Read the last paragraph.<<<</div>
You misunderstood the wording. I'm NOT using the "Shared" folder. I've created something comparable to a really really big floppy!

  • How do I share my iTunes Library with other "users" on my iMac?

I have a new iMac that I restored my iTunes Library onto however, the library only appears in the account of the user that performed the restore. How can I share this library with all the users on this new iMac?

I followed the instructions to the detail, I've also used other sites and they all result in the same message when I try to select my library by holding down option and opening itunes: "The iTunes library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have written permission for this file."
I do have it located on a second internal hard drive on my mac that is completely empty. And under permissions it says everyone can "read and write". Is there something i"m missing or is it not possible to have it located on an internal drive?

  • How can I share an ibook that is 250 megs with others without using the ibook store

    Hello
I'm using ibook author and the book I have created is 250 megs. I'm having trouble sharing it and getting on my new ibook air. Does anyone know if there is a good way to share the file with others without publishing it or using iTunes?
I'd ideally like to use something like Dropbox or my website but every time I try to download the file using one of these sites safari/apple says file not readable.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Thank you both for the help and sorry about not replying earlier. I've tried both drop box as well making the ibook downloadable from a website. I've triend to create a step by step list below that better illustrates what is happening.
    1) export ibook author file as an xxxxxx.ibooks
    2) upload xxxxx.ibooks to dropbox and then send my self a test link
    3) using safari i download the xxxxx.ibooks file
    4) while still in safari a page opens up with an icon for the xxxx.ibooks file and it has two buttons underneath it- one that says "open with..." and another that says "open in ibooks"
THIS IS WHERE THE IBOOK PROBLEM STARTS
    5) I tap on the "open in ibooks" button - nothing happens
    6) I tap on the "open with..." button and an icon for the ibook app pops up
    7) I tap on the ibook app icon and nothing happens
    8) I tap and hold the "open in ibooks" button for 2 plus minutes (the time for holding the button down fluctuates from 45 seconds to 5 minutes)
    9) the xxxxxx.Ibooks file opens in the ibook app.
I am very happy that I was able to get the xxxxx.ibooks file to open on my ipad. However, this is not a smooth or intuitive process. I need to share the xxxxxx.ibooks file with many people and I want to find a process for getting them the book that is very easy.
    any advice is appreciated
Do you think the problem could be the size of the file?
    Thank you

  • How to share music library with other users using it's own iTunes hdd

I have 183 gigs of music on my computer. I have it all on it's own hard drive not the OS or "C" drive. I'm pulling my hair trying to configure other users on my computer to access the music on windows Vista
Cant find any info to help tell me how to do that when the music is on it's own HDD. Can anyone help?

I don't think you have to drag anything anywhere.
Let's just say your music is on a drive named G:
I assume you've set its permissions for everyone. I also assume you can already listen to the files from the G: drive in itunes on your account - so you don't need to consolidate anything; iTunes is already working on your account and you just need to set some other users up to do the same.
From the section named "On Windows"
You're already at step 3, so continue with you add them to their library.
