How do I share my Pictures and Music Files between Users?

Hi all,
Basically my question is exactly that. I am a new to mac user, and have got a new mac air. Whilst in the store setting up our new mac the people in the shop told us that we could only have 1 icloud account per user, and therefore my wife and i should set up separte user accounts. Great. However, we both want to be able to access all of our photos and our music library. I have been into the sharing folders, but i must be doing somthing wrong, because as my wife turns on iphoto in her user account, she cannot access any of our photos.

Hey, I had the exact same problem and here is the best solution (in my opinion). First decide which user will have the photos and put them all in there under your iphoto library. Next, open up finder and then open up the 'users' folder. Under 'users' open up the folder for the user that has the pictures (you need to be on this user's account when you do this). Now you should see all the folders for that user such as desktop, documents, downloads, etc. Find the pictures folder and right click on it. Select "get info". On the new window that opens up you will see "sharing & permissions" down at the bottom. All you have to do is select the plus button and add your wifes user name to the list. Once you have done that, she will be able to look at all of your pictures and even use your library for her iphoto app (so that you don't duplicate the pics and take up space). If you want to let her edit the photos (which I'm sure you better do!), then make sure under "privilege" you give her the ability to "read & write".
I know it is a lot to follow so don't hesitate to reply if you get stuck. I can try explaining it again. This will make it so that two or more users can access the same files such as pictures, music, documents, or whatever you decide to share. This saves you from having to use a separate hardrive just to share things like pictures. Hope this helps.

When i turned my phone on every picture and music file is now gone

when I try to restore from my cloud it says I already have it but its nowhere on phone. Nobody has been able to give me an answer!!!

This is not cool speedy007! Let's explore ways to find those precious memories! If you login to your Verizon Cloud on a computer, do you see all your pictures and music files online? Did this issue start after installing/updating any application/software?

The Account field identifies the Apple ID you used to sign in to FaceTime.

HT201250 how do I restore my pictures and music from the back up external drive. My machine has been serviced by apple and now I can't figure out how to reload the music and pictures.

looking for idiot proof directions on how to restore my pictures and music to my iMAC. It was services and the hard drive cleared of my files. I've reinstalled office 2011 and am now trying to ficture out how to get the pictures and music back. I backed up the machine prior to the service call, but don't seem to know how to restore the pictures and music.

It all depends on how you made the backup and with what application. How was the backup created?

There are two ways to share iPhoto, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone.)
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

I would like to know how to share photos on the same computer between users...
My wife and I have different user accounts on our iMac and I can't figure out how to share photos.
I tried everything as told by Apple but it seems you can only share photos on your iMac with a network. If that is what I understand...
I just want to have all the photos on my user account and when my wife is on her user account I want her to be able to view the photos.
Again, we are only using one iMac.

What you mean by 'share'.

Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.

How can i get my pictures and music from my ipod to my itunes library after having to get a new computer where none of my file exist

please help i dont know how to do this and i dont want to loose my pictures or music that is on my ipod and not my computer i had to restore my windows and i lost everything but its still on my ipod touch 8 gb

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use this to put everything back.
The music and pic sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good) then you can transfer itunes purchases: Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
If the pics are pics taken with ipod, then you can import them as you would from any digital camera. otherwise you can e-mail them to yourself.

Tranfering pictures and Music file via Bluetooth from Nokia Express Music

Hi, I'm having issues with the bluetooth connectivity. My Flat mate has a nokia 5800 express music. We have tried to connect via bluetooth my phone has located his 5800 and seems to connect but i have no idea how to send pictures to him or to recieve anything from his phone....On the bluetooth screen there are no options that appear!?
I presume the music files might not be interchangabe due to different formats?? Surely we can swap pictures thought???

Datatransfer via bluetooth is not supported by this time. Only handsfree devices and headsets can pair with the phone. http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/#settings.bluetooth

How do I get my pictures and music back?

I updated my phone today to get the newest software. My music got deleted but my pictures where there. I did the restore thinking it would take me back to before and it took me back to having a new phone. I lost all music and all pictures.

Removing pictures and music files from my old Mac Book Pro

Hi I hope someone out there can help me with this question,
I have an older MacBook Pro with IOS 10.9.2 Mavericks I want to remove all my pictures, music and documents and put them on discs since my new MacBook Pro with Retina Display does not have a HDD and only has 125GB drive. How can I safely remove all my items unti a disc.

I'm not sure I understand the problem.
You need an external drive. You can store your documents on there, and then wipe the disk of the old MBP.
You can then access the documents on the new MBP from the external drive.
One other thing: you do already have a backup, don't you? A backup should be on a separate physical device from any other copy of your files. Make sure you have two copies of your files before deleting the originals on the old MBP.

Sharing music files between users while maintaining ratings

I have two users on my MacBook Pro which I use every day. One is my normal "home" user I use when at home. The other is my "work" user which I use at work (I'm a software developer, so I have a separate environment for that).
All of my new music gets downloaded/copied to my "home" user.
To get the music into iTunes on my "work" user, I've taken a couple steps:
1) I made an alias of my "Music" folder under the iTunes library in my "home" user and moved it to a more publically accessable location "/".
2) In my "work" user, I've opened the preferences, gone to the "Advanced" tab, unchecked "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding a library," and changed my iTunes Media folder location to the /Music alias.
This works great. However, I've taken the time to rate all of the songs under my "home" user, and I'd really like those ratings to show up for my "work" user.
There is 1 solution which is to copy the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Library.xml" files from my "home" user to my "work" user. However, this is cumbersome.
Is there some way I can make the ratings just show up/sync? Ideally, adding music under "home" would also automatically show up under "work," too.

Hold Option and launch iTunes.

Sharing Parallels and Quickbook files between users

Hello all.
My account (admin) has parallels(w/XP) installed and running Quickbooks on it.
I would like to have another user access them (and the needed data files) on her user account.
How can I do this without giving her access to all the other stuff on my account?

PS Maybe wrong forum, but can I have Parallels and Quickbooks (running on XP) use my fonts from my Mac (Office 2008)?

It's a good idea not to work as an admin user... That aside,
Parallels is probably installed in the usual location in the Applications folder (if not, that's where you want it). Simply copying the virtual machine to /Users/Shared should make it accessible to all users. You can also select the icon for the VM, press command-I, and go to the bottom and set permissions for accessing the VM (i.e., set who's allowed to "open" it).
As far as the fonts question, Windows will recognize any TrueType and Adobe Type 1 fonts, just copy the files over. Non-TrueType non-Type 1 Mac fonts won't work without using a commercial font design application to convert them.
