How do I stop Firefox from being my default browser on an XP machine?

I use Netscape 7.? Composer to create web-pages. Firefox doesn't have a composer. Now, all my stored pages are shown 'in Firefox' rather than Netscape, thus preventing me from editing them.

You can look at KompoZer for a more up to date editor: http://kompozer.net/
You can always use "Open with" in the right-click context menu to open the file in another program. You may need to press the shift key while right-clicking the file in Explorer to get the "Open with" choice.

How can I STOP Firefox from being a glutton with my virtual memory?

Yes. But, I see from the THOUSANDS of responses here concerning Firefox memory issues that other people have had no more success than I have at trying to STOP Firefox's memory gluttony. The fact that Firefox runs fine (like the good old days) for a while after re-booting and registry cleaning shows that something is going on beyond the trivial/ineffective suggestions offered in the referenced links.
Having to re-boot several times a day to get Firefox out of the molasses is such a pain, that it's no wonder people are going back to IE, or like me, reluctantly relying more and more on Google Chrome.

  • How can I stop Firefox from changing my default search engine to Yahoo when I want it to be Bing?

I keep changing my default search engine to Bing but it keeps changing back to Yahoo. HOW CAN I STOP THIS?!?!

    Bookmark and use this;
    Download the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
and then resets your search preferences and home page
to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

  • I have asked this once now I ask again. How do I stop Firefox from being my home page? I have my homepage set but Firefox starts first with my home page and I cant stop it. If I cant stop it then I will just have to uninstall.

When I start Firefox my home page does not start first, it is set as my home page but Firefox starts first. This is since upgrading to the newest version,

  • How do I STOP thunderbird from being the default mail client?

I recently upgraded my version of thunderbird and it has decided it is to be my default email program. This is really annoying. I use thunderbird for 1 email account and all other email accounts are handled by MS Outlook 2010.
How do I tell thunderbird it is NOT the default email program?

From the Menu Bar select '''Tools-Options-Advanced-General'''
Under System Integration uncheck the box to always check to see if Thunderbird is the default.
No menu bar? Press the alt key.
Then tell Outlook it is the default.

  • How do I stop iTunes from being my default video player

I have a slightly older Macbook Pro, on OSX 10.5.8.   I have a bunch of video files on a wireless networked hard drive and the directory mapped to my desktop for easy access.  I also have VLC installed for video playback.  All the files are *.m4v.
Here is the problem.  When I click to open one of these files it starts copying the whole file over the network to my iTunes, and insisting on opening from iTunes.  If I click on File -> Open With -> it shows iTunes as the default.  I can click on File -> Open With -> VLC and this works just fine.
But how do I change the default video player?  All I want to do is stream it over my internal home network, I don't want copy the darn file every time I want to play something.
    Thanks

-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
    7) Close the get info window.

  • How do I stop firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a textbox?

How do I stop Firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a text box? On certain pages such as Google.com the cursor will be moved to the search text box automatically after a couple seconds from the page loading. So I'll be typing in the address bar or something and then half of what I am typing in the address bar becomes cut off and starts being entered in the Google.com text box for search. The same happens on Facebook.com and the cursor is automatically moved to the Status Update text box. I assume this is a built in "feature" of the web page, but it's damn annoying. Especially when I start typing in my status update box on Facebook before the page completely loads and then halfway through typing (once the page is done loading) my cursor is moved to the starting position of the text area and my text is cut off.
Just the be clear the actual mouse pointer isn't being moved, just the prompt for entering text.
    How can this be stopped?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Started since I can remember

This problem has grown worse over the last couple of years. I use Firefox on Mac and Windows. I consider this problem to be a bug. Here's why: Event Driven interfaces, e.g., OSX and Windows, are never supposed to change typing-cursor focus WHILE SOMEONE'S TYPING!!!
Firefox allows websites to change focus WHILE USERS TYPE!
Hey, sorry for the caps, but I haven't used those for awhile and that's kind of fun. But really, more and more websites steal typing-cursor focus WHILE USERS TYPE.
Efff them, but really, Eff Firefox for allowing this.
It's almost like a symptom of our hyper scattered age where our attention jumps here and there.
But really... I love Firefox, some of my best friends are Firefox, they're good people, don't get me wrong, but damn it, WHEN SOMEONE IS TYPING THE UNASSAILABLE RULE OF EVENT DRIVEN DESIGN IS NOTHING ELSE SHOULD CHANGE FOCUS WHILE SOMEONE IS TYPING!!!!
    FIX THIS PLEASE.
Oh, I just ran out of capital letters. :) :) :)

  • How do I stop Firefox from auto-focusing on text boxes?

How do I stop Firefox from auto-focusing on text boxes? Sometimes as a page is loading, I scroll down the page...only to have the page jump back to where there is a text box, with a blinking cursor, after the page is finished loading. It is an annoying feature and I want to turn it off.

Some pages use an onload event to set the focus to a text area or search field.
You can try NoScript to see if that blocks it.

It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
But if you still want to do it (again not a good idea).
Tools>Options>Advanced>General - In Accessibility, uncheck "warn me when web sites try to redirect..." option.

  • How do I stop Firefox from playing video after I navigate from the page or leave Firefox?

Simple and annoying. . Extremely frustrating issue with Firefox for Android. ..
I watch a YouTube video or any flash video. . And after I hit play, the ONLY way to stop it is to hit pause or let it play to the end or close the tab. .
It will NOT automatically stop if I open another tab. or if I navigate from Firefox. .
I feel this is a very basic feature. Did I set something up that was wrong?
    Can I ask two questions?
I have another extremely annoying and frustrating problem with Firefox for Android.
The "top" (if you pull down the tabs) search bar DOES NOT allow my stock Samsung keyboard to auto space. . Thus instead of typing
"How do I stop Firefox from playing video after I navigate from the page or leave Firefox?"
    I'll type in
    "HowdoIstopFirefoxfromplayingvideoafterInavigatefromthepageorleaveFirefox?"
Unless I manually got the space bar.
Using a recently factory data reset Samsung Galaxy s4 active.. android 4.2.2 and stock Samsung keyboard ... Firefox 34.0.1
    Thanks in advanced.
    Ps
I was a hardcore xscope user for years and just recently gave in to Firefox when i lost all my bookmarks due to a forced factory data reset. .

I'm using a different keyboard which works fine in the most top search bar...
I cannot believe that it's not a feature.
What if I was watching a video and wanted to shut it off quickly? I'll have to hit back? Wait for the previous screen to load then hit the power button?
Please tell me that feature ids soon to come

  • How do I stop Firefox from coming to the front automatically?

This happens when Firefox is open in the back ground to a web site and I am working in another program in the foreground. If the web site that is open sends me a message (eg., a new email or message from someone), Firefox automatically comes to the front, interrupting whatever I am doing in the other program (eg., Word). How do I stop Firefox from automatically coming to the front?

i have even turned off itunes helper in the log in menu.
Did you remove iTunes Helper from your Login Items?
If not, you need to remove it from the Login iTunes. Checking an item in your Login Items list hides the item during startup, it doesn't turn it off or not checking the item doesn't turn it off. You need to remove it from your Login Items list if not removed.
