How do I stop Firefox from coming to the front automatically?

This happens when Firefox is open in the back ground to a web site and I am working in another program in the foreground. If the web site that is open sends me a message (eg., a new email or message from someone), Firefox automatically comes to the front, interrupting whatever I am doing in the other program (eg., Word). How do I stop Firefox from automatically coming to the front?

i have even turned off itunes helper in the log in menu.
Did you remove iTunes Helper from your Login Items?
If not, you need to remove it from the Login iTunes. Checking an item in your Login Items list hides the item during startup, it doesn't turn it off or not checking the item doesn't turn it off. You need to remove it from your Login Items list if not removed.

You could just disable the Account as has been said (Untick the "Enable this Account" box)
You can remove the Apple ID
GO to the Preferences > Accounts and the iMessages account
Use the Account Detail Button
Use the Sign Out button (Removes ID)
Either or these will stop Messages logging in to the iMessages server and trying to Sync iMessages sent to your Apple ID.

whenever I open firefox after closing it down, it always opens with the last page I was on. I have the settings to point to a specific homepage and have it set to always open on the homepage, but it doesn't.

I am having a similar problem, I'm using "Show my home page" on start-up but firefox decides to always open to the last page visited regardless. I also generally close Firefox using the red X or with alt+f4. This problem is especially annoying when the last page 'visited' is an annoying pop-up ad that wasn't been caught by the pop-up blocker.

Every time there's a new version of firefox, it updates automatically, but it changes the windows file type settings so that firefox is now the default browser.

Unfortunately the "web browser" I want to use is just a compiled script that examines the URL and then launches the proper browser to open it (because some pages are not standards compliant and work better in a certain browser). How do I stop Firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a text box? On certain pages such as Google.com the cursor will be moved to the search text box automatically after a couple seconds from the page loading. So I'll be typing in the address bar or something and then half of what I am typing in the address bar becomes cut off and starts being entered in the Google.com text box for search. The same happens on Facebook.com and the cursor is automatically moved to the Status Update text box. I assume this is a built in "feature" of the web page, but it's damn annoying. Especially when I start typing in my status update box on Facebook before the page completely loads and then halfway through typing (once the page is done loading) my cursor is moved to the starting position of the text area and my text is cut off.
Just the be clear the actual mouse pointer isn't being moved, just the prompt for entering text.
How can this be stopped?

It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
