How do I stop getting text messages on my macbook air

How do I stop getting text messages on my MacBook Air?

Hi,
The Mac has an App that is called Messages and one of the accounts in it is the iMessages one that can sync with the iOS one.
Open the Messages app and go to the Preferences (In the drop down Menu in the Apps name in the Menu Bar)
In the Preferences select the Accounts tab.
Select the iMessages account  if it is not selected.
Untick the iPhone Number to stop iMessages sent to your iPhone Number appearing on your Mac.
Also go to the General section of the Preferences.
There is an items that reads "When I quit, set the Status to Off Line"  select this.
This will stop any incoming Messages (from any source that Messages can join) from launching to app when you have not started it but your Computer is On.
You may also want to go to your iPhone Settings and remove the Apple ID.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you do not want to receive iMessage on your Mac, then all you need to do is simply sign out of the Apple ID in the Messages Accounts preferences.

    Hi there Zorro1960,
You should be able to prevent your messages from going to your computer, by removing your phone number from iMessages and turning off Text Message Forwarding using these instructions. They are about turning on these features but you should turn them off instead:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

how do i get text messaging through my macbook pro?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and you use iMessage, you can use it in your Mac if you want. OS X Mountain Lion includes Messages, that allows you to use iMessage.
First, check that your computer is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If so, open  > About this Mac, and see what OS X version you have:
10.5 or older: you have to upgrade first to Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
10.6 or 10.7: open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version. Then, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion.
10.8: you are already using OS X Mountain Lion, so open the Messages app.
While OS X Mountain Lion is being downloaded, make a backup of your files and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you aren't referring to iMessage, you can't send text messages in your computer

Hi, I have had an LG Octane for 4 years and loved it. I used it for email, surfing the web and facebook. But 6 weeks ago I stopped getting text messages, I could send but not receive.  I was told it was just worn out.  So I ordered another Octane from ebay, and it wouldn't connect to the internet. I was told by Verizon that the software had been changed.  So I ordered a NEW in Box Octane and I am having trouble with that too. Bing won't work, nothing will work that will enable me to download Verizon Opera mini that still works on my old phone. I have a smart phone with another number but I LOVE the Octane for daily use. Why will my old Octane work but I can't get a NEW one to.  Verizon guys are stumped too:( Please help!!  Thanks!

Why start a new and very similar thread to your other one which you have not responded to (have you read the replies?)
I suggest that no response is made to this duplicate thread.

  • How do I stop my text messages giving me a preview on the iPhone 4S?

On my old iPhone 3GS, I was able to stop the text messages from showing what was in them on the lock screen. It would come up with the person's name, and underneath just say "Text Message". However, on my new 4S, I have no idea how to do it. I can't find the option anywhere. Anyone have any ideas?

  • How to stop getting text messages intended for another family member?

    Hi,
I occassionally get a text message intended for another member of my family, and vice versa. When that happens we both get the message, and the other person can then see the rest of the thread. I think the problem is that we share 1 AppleID. If that's the cause I'm not sure how to correct it because we are also sharing all our app, music, and video purchases made with that ID. We are also on the Sprint network, if that is relevant.

On each device: Settings>Messages>Send/Receive...edit here & just make sure phone number is checked, or that only one person uses the Apple ID. Either that, or you each get separate Apple ID's for iMessage, FaceTime & iCloud. you can continue to use the same ID for iTunes content.

  • How do I stop my text messages from my iPhone from going to my iPad. I am being charged twice from my phone company?

My iPhone receives text messages and they go to my iPad and since I pay for each text message. I want to be able to stop this from happening,  how do I do this?????

If you are sending iMessages (blue bubbles in the Messages App), and use the same Apple ID on both the iPhone and the iPad messages will get sent to both devices. Its an iMessage feature to sync messages across devices.
iMessages are not SMS, and as such do not use your text messaging allowance.
    https://www.apple.com/ios/messages/
Whether you use a phone number or an email if you are registered with iMessage and the person you are messaging is also, your messages will get sent through iMessage rather than SMS. Your iPad is able to receive iMessages, and you'll have the conversation on both devices.  This is a good feature to have if you start the conversation on your Phone but later decide its easier to do it on your iPad or Mac.
iMessages only work between Apple devices.

  • How can I stop getting unsolicited **** messages in iMessage

As the title states I need to stop getting **** messages in iMessage on my phone. I can tell because they start with a number like 906.xx, not a phone number.
This may not be possible to stop but catch before I open
Has anyone else run into this issue and if so what have you don't to attempt to stop it.

at the top page of Messages on my phone there is no color code, it's all just grey text, I do not click open the message, I swipe left and delete but this has happened several times this month.
I done not visit those types of sights on my phone or my MBP
It's been suggested that there is a robot dialing random numbers, but to get three in a month make me wonder.
    Thanks for the tip,
I will look at it on my MBP next time to see if its there and if it has a color.
    very good advise
    thanks

  • How do I stop my text messages/iMessages from being sent to other devices on my account?

Ok. Ive just about had it with my parents/siblings being able to read every single text message I send/receive from their ipad or iphone. Is there anyway to disable this without having to lose all my music, apps, etc. by getting a new account? I understand the "grown up" thing to do would be to set up a new account, and just get off their freakin account, but it would just really suck to have to start all over. Ive never had this problem before until I got the new update. Help?

iMessages, not text messages as in SMS/MMS.
Have the other iPhones with iMessage registered with your shared Apple ID register iMessage on their iPhone with their own Apple ID.
