How do I stop itunes from downloading a very large apps that I downloaded direct to my iphone?

To get around my 5GB limit for internet service, I download a very large (350MB) dictionary app directly to my iphone using a wireless website run by a merchant in town. Now every time I run itunes, it wants to download the app. Is there any way I can stop itunes from attempting the download?

Some types of issues, such as that one, can't be resolved by the volunteer support here. If I think a request can be answered in the boards but was posted in the wrong part of them, I'll just ignore the fact it's in the wrong place.

  • How do I stop iTunes from downloading multiple copies of a TV show?

This is driving me nuts.  Using Doctor Who as the example, for each episode released, iTunes tries to download two HD copies and one SD copy.  I don't need the SD, nor do I need to duplicate HD.  Yet I can't stop it from trying to download them when I start iTunes, nor can I figure out how to permanently remove or cancel a pending download.
Anyone have any idea how to stop this?
    -- edit ---
Didn't have much luck matching search terms for this before posting, yet after posting links came up referencing other queries in which people asked how to stop iTunes from downloading the HD and SD versions of a TV show.  Consensus seems to be that iTunes will always download each version, which is just plain silly.  Haven't seen any explaination, however, on why it then tries to download a second HD copy.

That is correct.  This is the way it is ALL HD purchases come with the SD version.

  • How can I stop iTunes from downloading my iPhone contents?

Whenever I sync my iPhone, iTunes decides it needs to download everything that's on my iPhone.  How can I turn this off?  Luckily it is only music, not apps, but it's still annoying.  I have things like "sync only checked items" checked, and I don't have it automatically sync anything at all except podcasts.  It's just that whenever I download one of my albums from iTunes on my iPhone, it decides it needs it on the computer as well.  However, there is no reason for it to be on there, because I can just stream it from the cloud if I want to listen on my computer.
I wouldn't sync at all, but I have no other way of getting Podcasts that require a password than to use iTunes (non-protected Podcasts can be had with the Podcasts app--so handy!).
    Thanks!

What happened to Apple wanting people to be able to use an iPhone without having a computer at all?
I don't mind keeping a backup on my external hard drive, but I don't want iTunes to manage that anyway.  It always makes a mess of things.  And I definitely don't want it offloading stuff onto my main hard drive.  I just don't have the space on there for all the junk, which is why I have two external hard drives in the first place.

  • How can i stop itunes from downloading a podcast?

on my itunes I have a subscription to a series of podcasts (screencastsonline)  I therefore have a folder for the 2011 episodes....  that FOLDER has a GET button to the right... I have not at least I dont think I did press that GET button...  when I clik on the arrow to open that folder I can then see each of the monthly podcasts with dates available and each of them has a GET button on the right. IF I see a particular episode that I actually want to download I just press the GETbutton... there are many others that are available that I can download but have not actually pressed the GET button to do so yet...
My problem is that when I open itunes each time it automatically starts downloading all available podcasts in that folder and to stop it the only thing I can see to do is to laborously clik the circled "X" to the right of each title to stop the download.
I have highlighted the mail "2011 episodes" folder and then pressedthe settings button at the bottom..and when it opens Iuncheck the "default settings"and change the "when new episodes are available" selection TO DO NOTHING.  BUT STILL when I open Itunes the next time it does the same thing and I have to then manually
clik the circled x button.  how do I fix this please

If I would've read the whole post, I would've seen that. Sorry.
Strange though. Hope someone a li'l more helpful can find the answer you're looking for.

  • How do I stop iTunes from downloading purchused items??

I have an iPhone that's all I use iTunes for. Now with the new HD video that's out, whenever I get new videos iTunes automaticly gives me the HD version aswell and I dont want it. So now everytime I sign in to iTunes it ttys to download those HD videos and I cancel them but my ? Is can I tell iTunes 2 not download those

Nope, you can't. They did it on purpose.
You have 2 choices if you buy from iTS:
    1) Let the HD download complete in itunes, then delete it from your hard drive
    2) Contact iTS support and ask them to remove it from your DL queue

  • How can I stop iTunes from downloading an app that I already deleted?

I tried to download some wallpaper app using the app store on my iPhone, but the download was taking too long so I deleted it. Now every time I open iTunes on my computer, it keeps trying to download. I have tried several times deleting it on my computer, but it still keeps trying to download.
I have an iPhone 3G S and it has all the latest updates, including iCloud.

  • Stop iTunes from downloading old TV shows.

How do I stop iTunes from downloading old TV episodes that I have already watched? I have turned off automatic downloads in preferences. However every time I try to download something new, all my old TV shows I have already watched start to download. I then have to manually stop and delete dozens of TV episodes manually. I don't want multiple TV episodes clogging up my hard drive. Once I have watched something and delete it from iTunes, I don't want to download it again. Please help.

I have this problem OFTEN with past Daily Show episodes. Just this morning, in fact, iTunes tried to download 1300+ (yes, 1300+) episodes of The Daily Show, dating all the way back to 2006.
When I called iTunes Support on the phone, the completely unhelpful person asked me for the serial number on my computer. I told her that the problem wasn't with my computer, that the problem was with iTunes itself, and she was completely unwilling to help me. I've had this problem before, and an Apple support technician simply went in and cleared my download queue for me (a feature that individual users should have the ability to do) but I can't figure out how to get back to the person who helped me last time, because this receptionist insisted that nobody could help me if I wasn't using an Apple computer.
This issue is not going away. Apple needs to fix iTunes. Nothing needs fixing on my computer.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing the songs I download?

I usually end up deleting a bunch of songs, but iTunes is automatically importing/adding the songs I download which then creates a lot of missing file links. How do I stop iTunes from doing that, I just want to be able to add them manually by folders.

    I'm having a similar problem.
When I download songs via my MobileMe "iDisk" webpage, it will automatically end up in iTunes and starts playing. I set up my iDisk settings to place my downloads on my desktop, which it does, just fine.
Nonetheless iTunes ALWAYS wanting to be part of it, is really annoying.
I just DON'T want iTunes to start up, just because a download finished. I add songs manually myself when I want it.
    Any advise ?? Thanks

  • How do I stop itunes from corrupting it's library on almost a daily basis?

How do I stop itunes from corrupting it's library on almost a daily basis?  It's actually becoming infurating to use, and what's happening is I am losing my downloads since the last automated itunes backup (having to rename & replace the current corrupted library with the last backup which is usually a day or two old).  What can cause this?  Is there ANY alternative to using itunes for Apps (which is the sole use I have for it)?   If not, APPLE PLEASE REMOVE THE NEED FOR THE DATABASE SO IT DOESN'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO CORRUPT ITSELF...  :'(

Things you see in iTunes are stored in various sub folders in your main iTunes folder as in:
Image of folder structure and explanation of different iTunes versions (turingtest2 post) - https://discussions.apple.com/message/13025536 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/17457605
Start iTunes and immediately hold down the option key.  Create a new library somewhere.  Go to your old iTunes folder and drag items to the window for the new library.  Maybe only grab a folder or part of one at a time.  It will copy these items to the new library (so you need lots of extra room on your computer).

  • How do I stop itunes from transferring apps from my ipad or iphone to my pc ?

How do I stop iTunes from transferring apps from my iPad or iPhone to my PC ? I have App sync turn off and I have add files to library turned off. Yet every time
I sync iTunes transfers all my apps to my PC. I have 20-30 gig of apps on each. A lot of them are 1gig each and it takes for ever to sync , plus I don't want 100 gig of apps just sitting on my hard drive for no reason. Any app I ever want is always available in the cloud so what's the point of having them on my PC in the 1st place?

I'm pretty sure that the space is used up on your computer's hardrive.
Anyway my solution to this nuisance of apps/itunes transfer was to allow itunes to download the apps from my phone...
...First of all I had tried to uncheck a few boxes in itunes a) automatically sync when device is connected (in the summary section) b) prevent devices from syncing (edit>preferences>devices) and c) Automatically sync new apps (apps section of device)
HOWEVER, when I would click sync in any section, apps tried to transfer to itunes from my iphone.
So after all my apps went on my computer (approx. 9 GB), I checked the boxes back, disconnected my device and deleted all the apps from itunes and my computer simultaneously (by clicking del/move to recycle bin).
Now when I connect my iphone it does it's backup/sync thing automatically ...but no apps try to transfer
Note: apps from your library cannot be set to sync with your device
I can now also click sync in any section and no apps transfer.
(This problem started when I downloaded an app from itunes rather than my device and I later transfered the app to my device. My apps section in itunes is completely empty now and no apps appear in windows explorer either)
the only thing I am unsure of now is; what's going to happen if I purchase an app from itunes on my pc again ...I'm guessing I'll have to repeat the process (might want to avoid that)

  • I preordered an album in error that is scheduled to download next week.  How do I stop it from downloading?  I no longer want to purchase it.

I preordered an album in error that is scheduled to download next week.  How do I stop it from downloading?  I no longer want to purchase it.

    Downloading a pre-ordered item
When a pre-order item becomes available, you will receive an email letting you know your pre-order is available for download.
If you've enabled iTunes to automatically download prepurchased content, then your pre-order content may already be downloaded to your library. If not, simply click the download link provided within your email notification, and your pre-order content will begin to download. Alternatively you can use the "Check for Available Downloads" feature in iTunes on your computer by choosing Store > Check for Available Downloads to begin downloading your pre-order.
I would contact iTunes if clicking on the link did not results in it downloading to your iPod.

  • When I open itunes on my laptop, how do i stop itunes from automatically prompting for my apple account info?

When I open itunes on my laptop, and I have connected my iPod Touch, how do I stop itunes from automatically prompting for my apple account info?  I'm usually not intending to make any purchases at that time, so do they need to know my account info?

Rented movies downloaded to an Apple TV can't be transferred to any other device.

    Mac OS X: Double-Clicking a File Opens the Wrong Application - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2291
-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
    7) Close the get info window.
