How do I sync to one device but not my other ones?

I have multiple devices on my iTunes but I don't want everything synced to every device. How do I just choose certain things for the different devices?

You can chose which categories of things you sync to iCloud in Settings>iCloud.

  • How to have iMessages show up on one device but not the other?

So I have an iPhone, a MacBook and an iPad that I own and use, this year my school "gave" (we pay for it but it belongs to the school and have to give it back, go private education!) each student an iPad so now i have one from them as well. I use a different Apple ID for my school iPad than I do for my personal devices so that information from my personal devices doesn't end up on the schools iPad which has a massive amount of spyware on it so they can literally see everything we do. I have it set up for iMessage so my 3 personal devices are all synced and use my phone number from my iphone to iMessage, but my school iPad only uses the email from the Apple ID I made specifically for that iPad. I was wondering if there was a way that the iMessages I receive on my school iPad (via the email) can also be received on my other personal devices, but NONE of the messages or other data received on my phone (via my phone number) also be received on the school iPad. So in essence a sort of one way channel. Thanks in advance!
P.S.- I don't just use the messages to text my friends I use it for professional purposes also as I am on the executive board of several charities and also a high ranking member of my fathers company.

No, the scenario you describe is not possible. Sorry.

  • ICloud syncs to iOS devices but not OSX devices on my home network.

While setting up Photostream, I discovered that iCloud does not seem to push to OSX devices, but it does to iOS devices.
For example, I set up Aperture on my MacPro.  I enabled Photostream on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac.  When I take a photo on my iPhone, Photostream automatically pulls it to my iPad.  On my Mac, nothing happens.  All devices are on the same network.
Looking more into this, I tested my iCal sync, and that also does not push.  I can "Refresh" the calendars and it finds them, but it will not push.
    It is important to know...
    1.  My mac WILL sync Photostream if I disable and re-enable it, or if I disconnect my internet and reconnect it.  It just doesnt automatically sync - even after hours.
    2.  My brother came over with his MacBook Pro and iPhone.  His MacBook Pro has the exact same behavior as mine.
    3.  I have tried:
-Creating a new user on my computer and trying there.
-Opening up router port 5223 and set it to forward to my MacPro.  No success.
-Using iPhoto to sync Photostream - no go.
         -Resetting Photostream.
Please help!!!  This issue defeats the entire purpose of Photostream for me!
    Thanks,
    Adam

Yes this worked perfectly, there is a tense moment when all your calendar appointments disappear, but once you sign and restart calendar, they all reappear.
    Thanks Csound1!

  • Need to stop photostream on one device but not the other. Which one?

Here is my problem.  I have photostream activated on my iPhone, iPad, and my Mac (iPhoto).  I take 95% of my photos on my iPhone, but I often like to look at them on the larger screen on my iPad. So I like it that the iPhone photos sync to my iPad through photostream.  However, all of the photos I've taken on my iPhone are there twice; once in the main folder and once in photostream.  I now barely have any free space on my iPhone and I think it is affecting the device's performance (more apps don't open or crash now than ever before, it's processing commands slower). In iTunes it shows barely any free space remaining on the device.  What I'd like to do is to in essence stop duplicating all the photos on my iPhone but keep the iPhone photos flowing to my iPad through photostream.  Can I do this?  Is it as easy as going to Settings and turning off photostream on one of the two devices?  If so, which one?  (If this works, I realize I may have to manually delete the 1000 photos that are currently on my iPhone.  I also would not get any of my iPad photos on my iPhone, but that's okay for now.)  Or, is there "do keep duplicate photo" switch somewhere? I appreciate the advice.  Just don't want to flip the wrong switch.
For storage purposes, I'm not totally committed to iCloud yet.  I store all my photos in iPhoto on my Mac where I can back them up on disk and hard drive, so I still regularly sync both devices to my Mac through iTunes.

Photos in albums that you create from the camera roll don't contain duplicates, but only links to the original photos.  However, photos in the my photo stream album are duplicates (although they are "device optimized" copies of the original).  If you want to continue to use photo stream without this happening, you can either import the originals from the camera roll and delete them from your phone, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083; or, save the photo stream photos on your iPad to the camera roll (by tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then delete them from the photo stream album on either device.  (Deleting photo stream photos on either device will delete them from the other.)
If you choose to delete the photo stream photos, you can tap Edit, tap the photos, then tap Delete.
Also, keep in mind that photo stream will only keep a rolling collection of up to 1000 photos on your devices, so as you add additional photos, older ones will be removed.

  • ITunes wi-fi sync works at home, but not on other wi-fi hotspots. Any suggestions?

I know I've got all the settings correct, since both my phone (4, iOS 6.0) and iPad (first gen, iOS 5.1.1) connect and sync over wi-fi easily at home. But when I'm on campus, and all devices are connected to the same wi-fi connection, my computer does not register either the phone or iPad. I'm thinking it's an issue with setting on the admin side of the wi-fi setup ,so I've contacted the IT people. I thought I'd check here too to see if there's something that I can do about it on my end in the mean time.
    Any tips are appreciated.
    Cheers

i had this problem at my university. its something to do with firewalling. it doesnt let you do it for this reason. your iphone and mac connect to the wifi on a secure protocol (my bet). its like how bittorrent apps dont work on campus. this is what IT told me anyway

  • Contact names transfer in sync to new computer but not any other info-why?

New computer-trying to transfer contacts from iPad (and iPhone) to the Outlook on PC....the names carried over in the sync process, but zero numbers, email addresses, etc...help!

Answered my own question - sort of (and after some hours)...
Plenty of other threads refer to the how-to-copy-your-library support pages - in my case, I'd used this to copy an older iPod library to the new laptop and did not copy the iPhone library as well.
Copying the full library off the old library fixes the problem for the iPhone and I'm now rebuilding the music+podcast library to support the iPod.
Summary is that you must copy the library for the iPhone from old to new PCs. If you have another i* device, then you may run into the same issue as me...

How do I get calendar items entered on my iPhone5 to sync to my Mac desk top? The sync seems to omly work from computer to phone.

The iCloud settings for the computer and other devices are in the iCloud preferences in System Preferences. If you open iTunes with your iPhone connected to the computer, select the iPhone under Devices in iTunes' sidebar, then click on the Info tab in iTunes' main window. Look at the various items you see listed. Be sure to check the Mail component for your GMail account because it is not an iCloud mail account. Your Calendar and Contacts components should state that they are being synced by iCloud.

  • I have 2 iPod touchs and 1 computer. It will reconize one but not the other. How do I get it to sync music on both

I have 2 older iPod touches and 1 computer. It will reconize one but not the other. How do I sync music on both?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • HT2731 I have 2 apple iPods on the same account, And they have the Same songs on them. How can I get a new account for one of them but not the other? Can I wipe the memory of 1? How would I do that?

I have 2 iPods one I don't use anymore. I would like to make a new account for one but not the other. Is that possible? If I wipe the memory in one will the other wipe out too? How can I do all of this?

You don't have to do anything with the first iPod that you don't use anymore. If you are planning on keeping it, put in a drawer in your house and forget about it.
You don't need a second account to use with the new iPod. I use one Appl e ID and iTunes library for two iPods, and two iPad. I have different content on all four devices. You can select exactly what you want to sync to each device and it can be different content on all devices.

  • HT4759 I cannot upgrade to mountain lion b.c. my Mac is too old; therefor no icloud. So, now, how can i sync up my devices?

My mac is too old for an upgrade to mountain lion. I tried from the app store and says it is not eligable, even though i have most recent snow leopard upgrade. My question then, is how do i sync up my devices? I put events on my calendar on my ipod, but they are not syncing with my imac calendar desktop. Please help!

    Not a problem.
One last check ... read this list for applications that may not work under Lion: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
And make a good TM or clone (CarbonCopyCopy download for $40 or SuperDuper download for $30) in case you need to start over or decide to go back.

We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! Please help.

According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

  • HT4137 I am trying to follow the steps suggested in To restore you device from a previous backup, unfortunately the device is appearing in the list of devices. The sync option under devices is not also active. How can I resolve this?

I was trying to setup a new ipad. After resetting and erasing the content on the ipad, I would like to restore the ipad from the old backup. Unfortunately the device is not appearing in the list of devices. The sync option under devices is not also active. How else can I restore the ipad?

Sorry, you can't extract those photos from the old device unless you restore the new phone from that backup.
You could of course use a third party software to extract those pics but it will cost you.
If you still have the old phone import those pics to your computer and then sync those photos to your new phone via itunes.

  • HT5622 How do I set icloud on 2 ipads. It recognises one,but not the other one?

How do I set up icloud on 2 ipads? It recognises one but not the other one.

    Hi Leora Beisly,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Before setting up iCloud on your devices, I recommend updating to the latest iOS software version. This will ensure that you can use all of the iCloud features on your devices. See this article for information on updating your iPads:
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4623
Next, see this page for iCloud setup instructions:
iCloud: Set up iCloud on your devices
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2609
Before you can use iCloud on each of your devices, you need to sign in to iCloud using your existing Apple ID or a new one, then turn on the iCloud features you want to use.
You may have set up iCloud on your iOS device or Mac when you first used it. To make sure it’s set up correctly, or to set up your iCloud account on another iOS device, computer, or Apple TV, go to the set up iCloud website listed below.
Important: Be sure to use the same Apple ID when you set up iCloud on each device.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

  • How do I remove a song that is on my device but not in my selected library?

How do I remove a song that is on my device but not in my selected library?

There is no way to delete songs from an iPod.
Nothing will be touched on your iPod in regards to iTunes content with the first sync with iTunes on your new computer if you transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer following the simple instructions included with the link provided. Certainly as a Windows user you maintain a backup for all important data which should include your iTunes library? Important regardless the platform but even more so with Windows due to constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns. Or do most Windows users start with a new computer from scratch without transferring any data from an old computer to a new computer due to constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns?
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only from an iPod - really. As the largest distributor for music and as #1 by far in MP3 player sales, this is required by those who own the distribution rights for the music. Part of an effort to prevent or minimize stealing music by those who own the distribution rights.
