How do I transfer my apps and music to a new computer

How do I transfer my apps and music to a new computer?  I have authorized my Computer, but when I connect the ipod, it only comes up with the message box "Erase and sync.", I don't get the option to transfer my music and apps onto the Computer.  How can this be achived?  I really don't want the Computer to wipe my ipod.  Any help much appreciated.

- Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- For other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music
- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
- Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include media like app and music.

  • How do i transfer an app and its contents to new mac

    Hi,
I've just got a new Macbook with Mountain Lion. I backed up my old Mac (Lion) using Carbon Copy Cloner - although i'm not sure whether it was a bootable back up (when i plug the external harddrive in it shows multipe folders - users, systems, library, applications etc...).
How do I transfer Aperture , Final Cut Pro, iWork, and iLife and all of their saved contents (projects, pictures etc...) over to my new mac. The Genius today told me that because I didn't do a time machine back up I should be careful when transfering these as certain program files may have changed and will have an affect on the new machine...
Also, I should mention that I don't have Final Cut Pro, Aperture or iWork installed on my new mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks, Aaron

    Okay cool.
But if the carbon copy was made on Lion and my new OS is Mountain Lion, will this have an affect on the way apps work??
The only apps i'm worried about are iWorks (as I dont have original disk so need to transfer these apps via carbon copy), as well as iPhoto - as I have all my photos on it.
Should I just transfer the iWork apps via drag and drop (then do any updates they say I need. and then when I drag and drop the iWork files (pages files mainly) will they work fine?
And with the iPhoto photos, should I just drag and drop the iPhoto library file - as I won't need the App as it's already installed on my new mac...
Just a little confused as to how my new mac will accept the Apps and it's files as they are from an older OS...
Sorry if this is a little confusing...
    thanks so much.....

  • How do I transfer iPod touch and iPad to a new computer?

I have both an iPod touch 3G 64GB (iPhone OS 3.1.1) and an iPad 32GB WiFi (iOS 3.2).
I need to transfer them to a new computer (Windows 7 unfortunately, because I can't afford to replace all my software and the computer yet)
I can I do that and not loose all my purchased apps, music, and videos (etc..)?

I'm going to sell or get rid of the old computer.
But I did find what I believe is the answer here:

  • How do I move my ipod and music to a new computer?

I just bought a macbook pro and I need to move my music and my iPod to the new Mac. When I tried to sync my ipod to the Mac it told me it was going to erase the iPod.
How do I move my Music and have my iPod sync with the new computer?

Copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you.
You can call Apple support and they will help you do it.

  • How do I transfer my applications and files to a new computer

I'm about to buy a new Mac Pro and would like to move my applications and data over. The new computer will come with Tiger installed of course. I'd like segment the drive so I can put windows in one part, and then get everything from the old computer over.
Can I just move stuff from the old computer to the new one or do I need to install all my software again?

If the old and new computers are both Intel Macs and running the same version of the OS (say, 10.4), then the Migration Assistant will probably do this transfer for you quite well (although I have and would do it manually myself). However if your old Mac is a PowerPC computer, even if it is running Tiger, then the above thread is especially relevant to you.

The following gives instructions on how to transfer to a new device via either iCloud (top section) or iTunes (bottom section). Assuming that you already have a backup via one of those methods you can skip the first few steps and go directly to the restore instructions. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109

  • I crashed my hard drive and want to copy my iPad apps and music to my new computer instead of overwriting the iPad. How?

I crashed my hard drive on my laptop and had it replaced.  I lost most of the data.
When I sync my ipad or iphone, it wants to overwrite those devices.  I want to copy back the apps, music and photos to iTunes on the laptop.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks.

If this external drive is a boot drive (has the OSX on it), you can swap it into your MBP or use Disk Utility>Restore to clone the data to the internal MBP HDD.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How can I transfer my photos and music from my iphone 4 to my new iphone6

How can I transfer my photos and music from my IPhone 4 to my IPhone 6 ?

if the music was downloaded via iTunes you will be able to access it from iCloud when you set up the new device. other music that was synced to the iPhone would need to be synced to the new iPhone from the computer that you used to sync the iPhone 4.
photos can be transferred via the following method.
plug iPhone 4 into iTunes on computer. select back up to computer.
Plug in the iPhone 6 and press restore. when setting up the iPhone press restore from iTunes. plug into computer and a complete copy of the iPhone 4 will be put onto the iPhone 6. except for the music...(you will have to download your apps again from App Store but you can find them all under the purchased tab on App Store. you won't have to pay for the apps again)
please note this will delete the current memory on iPhone 6

You can continue to share the same iTunes account ID with your daughter and set up a separate iCloud account with a different ID.
=> is this a different iCloud account for each device?  I thought iCloud account ID had to match some iTunes account ID, for which we only have one i Tunes account?
You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data.  If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s).  If, for example, you owned two devices and someone else in the family also owned two devices, you would both want your own iCloud accounts, and you would each set up your personal iCloud account on the two devices you own.  In other words, you want a separate iCloud account for each person to be used on the devices they own.  Each iCloud account has to have a separate Apple ID.  The ID does not need to be the same as the ID used for iTunes.  Many families perfer to share the same iTunes account/ID, but maintain separate iCloud accounts with different IDs to keep there data separated.

=> what ID, iTunes?  So I can have a separate iCloud account "only" ID which I also assume must be some [valid] email address?  The children currently do not have email accounts anywhere.
Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.  In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple.  Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account.  When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process.  If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service.  They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID.

  • How can I get my old iTunes music onto my new computer without access to my old computer? I left my previous job and forgot to transfer my music. I bought iTunes match and it shows my old Mac as a device, but I cannot get the music off it.

How can I get my old iTunes music onto my new computer without access to my old computer? I left my previous job and forgot to transfer my music. I bought iTunes match and it shows my old Mac as a device, but I cannot access any of the old music. All I can find are what was on my iPhone, but that's not what I want. I need all my old music from my old Mac, which has been wiped clean by IT at my old job. BUT, I did have iCloud at that time and I thought all my music would be accessible through it. I don't understand the Cloud! And I'm thinking spending $24.99 on iTunes Match was a waste of money because I still can't access my old music.

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.
    Good luck & happy computing!
