How do I transfer my iPhoto library from my old Mac Book to my new Mac Book Pro?

I took delivery of my new mac Book Pro at the weekend and was unable to transfer all my data from my old machine at the time of set-up. Can someone tell me how I can transfer my iPhoto library to my new machine while keeping all photos in the events categories I have?
thanks

Quit iPhoto if open.
Open your Pictures folder and select the iPhoto Library.
Copy the iPhoto Library folder or package to your new computer.

My iPhoto library is on older external drive that I no longer trust.  How do I transfer it to a new drive?  If both are hooked up to iMac can I simply copy from one to the other?

Be sure the new drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the library intact from the old to the new drive - depress the oprion key and launch iPHoto and use the select library window to select the new location as the default - be sure to fully test the new location before trashing the old one if you plan to

How do I transfer my iPhoto library from iPhone to my computer?
My photos that I lost from my computer at the weekend are still on my iphone but I don't want to lose them and would like them back on my computer.
    Help very welcome.

The photo sync is one way only - computer to iphone.
Copy them from your backup copy of your computer.
When pics are synced to iphone they are reduced in size/quality.  You can e-mail them to yourself, but they will never be of the original quality.

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my MacBook Pro?

Just copy the entire Music folder from the old Mac to the new Mac, then click on the folder and Get Info and change the permisisons and click the spoke to "apply to enclosed items"
Ideally it's best to use the same user name on the new machine, this way all your iTunes playlists work and there is no need to change permissions.
You can create the same named user by creating another account in System Preferences >accounts
If the old computer is a PC then just copy the old Music folder to the Mac onto the desktop, then use iTunes to import the music files.
If the old comptuer is dead, then you can extract the hard drive(if it's still working) and use a IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable to access the internal drive.
Mac's should be able to read NTFS format of PC's, just not write to it. But if it's not working there is software to install to allow the Mac to read that NTFS drive format, just search online.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library from an old, slow pc laptop to a newer faster pc laptop? Do I have to take a copy of my iTunes library on the hard drive of the old(er) pc laptop and load it onto the hard drive of my new(er) pc laptop?

How do I transfer my iTunes library from an old, slow pc laptop to a new(er), faster pc laptop? Do I have to make a copy of the iTunes library on the old pc laptop and re-install it on the new(er) pc laptop? Is it something that can de done using the actual iPod itself?

This is the method I would normally recommend:
Backup with this User Tip, restore the library to the new computer using the same tool, keep the backup up-to-date in future. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer need to access protected content on it.
You can use your iPod classic to move your library to a new computer but if you don't already have a backup copy of the library (and your other important data) now is the time to think about it.

Hi - how do i transfer my music library from an old laptop to a new laptop??  BTW - i dont have the OLD laptop anymore - am i screwed??

You cannot transfer anything from a device which you do not have, because you do not have it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

How do I transfer back up data from my old time capsule to my new one easily.

Before you do this, do you really need all of the old backups that go back many weeks and months?  Most us only ever need to go back a week or two to pick up a file that was accidentally deleted, but that's about it.
Sure, It is tough to think about deleting all the old backups, so a suggestion would be to keep the old Time Capsule around for a month or two....just in case....but start new backups on the new Time Capsule.  Once you have a month or two of backup history on the new Time Capsule, then you might decide to erase the old Time Capsule and sell it....or just keep it around as a spare hard drive.
I've tranferred backups a few times in the past, and used up a lot of space on the "new" Time Capsule to do it, and have found that it is far more trouble than it is worth.
    But, you may disagree.

  • How can I transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive?

    Community,
Every time I try to transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive, I receive the attached message: "You can't copy 'iPhoto Library' because it has the same name as another ideon on the destination volume, and that volume doesn't destinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames."
My theory is, if I am able to unpackage my iphoto library, I can transfer each folder one at a time so that I can trouble shoot any "duplicates." Will this work?
Let's say that works. How can I repackage the library so iphoto recognizes it?
    Is there a better way?
    Thank you,
    Jonathan

Can we assume that I don't have any naming conflicts? Clearly there are or else I wouldn't get the error I'm getting.
The error doesn't mean you have name conflicts. It means that the Finder won't take the chance that you might have them.
You're suggesting that all I would need to do would be to use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the files from the case-sensative harddrive to my Extended Journaled harddrive?
Yes. But I would just use the built-in rsync shell command. First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press the space bar:
    rsync -aE --delete
Now drag the iPhoto library you want to copy into the window. You should have something like this:
    rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library
Drag the Pictures folder on the destination volume into the window. Now you have this (line will wrap on the page):
rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library /Volumes/something/Users/you/Pictures
Press return. The copying operation will start. When it finishes, you'll see a new dollar-sign ("$") prompt below what you entered. If there were no errors, you're done.

  • How do I transfer my iphoto library from my macbook to my imac easily?

How do I easily transfer my entire iphoto library from my macbook to my iMac?  My iMac is not new and I know I should have done this on day 1!  I also want to move my itunes.  If possible I want to avoid moving in on my external.

Details are critical to getting valid advice
The answer to your question is very simple. Connect the two macs together however you wish or use an external hard drive that is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library from to old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac
However your comment about the iMac being old raises the question of a critical detail you left out. Do you have an existing library on your iMac that you want to keep?  If so post back for different instructions
