How do I transfer my iTunes library with the playlists and song plays from a PC to a MAC

I just recently got a MacBook and I'd like to transfer my iTunes library as well as the playlists and song plays over to this computer and i was wondering how i should go about doing so.
I've found a few tutorials on how to edit the .xml files but I haven't really succeeded in doing so.

Use an external HDD and copy the entire iTunes folder from the original computer to the Mac and place it in ~/Music.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library with playlists/playcounts?

I know this question has been asked to death, and there are several pages describing the process of moving one's iTunes library to a new computer, but none of them walk me all of the way through. I need to transfer an iTunes library totaling about 80gb from my old Macbook Pro to my new one while keeping all of my playlists and playcounts intact. I started by doing this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449 and putting everything on an external HD and then onto my new comp. It took several hours but finally I had all of my files on my new computer. Now what? I tried adding it directly to iTunes, and I got my music but no playlists/playcounts. I tried adding the media folder to my Music folder, and that didn't do anything. I tried changing the iTunes media folder in iTunes preferences to the folder that I just brought over and again I got nothing. I've already transfered most of my other stuff so I don't really want to use Migration Assistant unless I can transfer only my iTunes stuff, and even then would it keep all of my playlists? Maybe I'm just missing something obvious but anyone who can give me a succinct, step-by-step account starting with iTunes on Computer 1 and ending with me listening to my top played songs on Computer 2 will forever be in my good graces! If in my perusal I have missed an existing article that already spells these steps out then please link me to it and accept my apologies for unnecessarily starting yet another thread. Thanks for any and all assistance.

  • How can I replace my iTunes Library with the contents of my iPod, including the playlists?

I tried transferring the purchases, but it didn't move my playlists over. I have also tried backing my old library up to a disc, and putting it in my new computer, but it still didn't transfer my playlists.
Is there any way I can transfer my old itunes library from my old computer to my new computer, including the playlists?
I have heard people talk about replacing itunes with the contents of the ipod, but I'm not sure how to do it.

  • How can I manage an Itunes library with an Itouch and Ipad?

What I mean is, my mom has an 8gb itouch, and a 32gb ipad. So I want to help her make cuts so all her music fits on the smaller itouch. So how would I go about doing this? Do I uncheck everything in her itunes library that I don't want synced? I tried doing this, but the amount of space it takes doesn't change no matter how many songs I uncheck. Am I doing this wrong?

    Make playlists.
Sync whatever playlists you like to each device.

  • How to restore my old Itunes Library WITH the DATA (plays & date added) from a time machine

    Hi,
I recently got my macbook fixed through the apple store and the repairers replaced my hardrive, therefore wiping my computer of all its infor, including my Itunes library. Luckily, I had everything backed up on my time machine.
My question is how I can put back all my music into Itunes but also restore my data such as ratings, date added, and number of plays. Of course, I just want all my music back on my computer but stuff like this is what makes my library unique and personal to me. I enjoy listening to my music in order of when I downloaded them, bringing me back to specific experiences and times of my life where I enjoyed the group of songs, but I cannot do that when my Itunes has the "date added" of my songs all on the same date (the date that I'm putting my music back on).
Is there any way to take my itunes from library from my time machine and restore that back onto my itunes? (I've recently updated my Itunes too)
    Please, anything helps!
    Thanks!

Depending on what kind of problems, they may be damaged.
Long story short, all I want to do is restore my Itunes and just the Itunes from where and what it was like before.
Have you already set up a user account?  If so, you might be able to selectively restore your iTunes library from your backups, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
But the user account you've set up may not be recognized as the same one as on your backups; you may not have permission to view, much less restore, the library.

  • My Itunes library has been deleted, yet I am left with all my music saved to 'my music' on my PC. How do I restore my old library with my playlists and artwork back? I have already installed a new library and have managed to get all my purchased songs.

Please help, Im at the end of my tether with this!!

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library from an old, slow pc laptop to a newer faster pc laptop? Do I have to take a copy of my iTunes library on the hard drive of the old(er) pc laptop and load it onto the hard drive of my new(er) pc laptop?

How do I transfer my iTunes library from an old, slow pc laptop to a new(er), faster pc laptop? Do I have to make a copy of the iTunes library on the old pc laptop and re-install it on the new(er) pc laptop? Is it something that can de done using the actual iPod itself?

This is the method I would normally recommend:
Backup with this User Tip, restore the library to the new computer using the same tool, keep the backup up-to-date in future. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer need to access protected content on it.
You can use your iPod classic to move your library to a new computer but if you don't already have a backup copy of the library (and your other important data) now is the time to think about it.

How can I transfer my iTunes library and playlists from one computer to another?

Copy the iTunes folder (Mac: Home\Music or PC: My Music) to the same location on the new computer. If an iTunes folder already exists on the new computer (it will on a Mac) replace it with one you copied.

  • I have a new computer. How can I transfer my ITunes library? My old one has a virus. Can I transfer it from my IPhone?

I can't find any information on how you can transfer your ITunes library from an old computer to a new one. I have installed ITunes on my new computer but it doesn't seem to synch with my IPhone. And I don't want to erase the library that is on my IPhone.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library to a new computer?  I have transferred purchased music but wish to transfer the rest of my library.  Home sharing isn't responding and the computers are going to be in different locations.

How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one?  I have successfully transferred purchased music but not my library of CDs.  Home sharing will not work, and isn't working in fact, as the computers will be in different countries.

Assuming your library is in the default location and all of the media is stored within the library's media folder then this is what you need to do:
Copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target computer.
You can do this directly over a network (making use of shared network folders) or by making a copy on an external drive, moving the drive between computers, and copying again. Any way that works is good. However if you say that you cannot use Home Sharing (doesn't work properly anyway) because the source and target are not on the same network then method 2 as I describe it won't work either.
Your playlists, play counts, ratings etc. are stored inside the database iTunes Library.itl which is inside the iTunes folder and a successful migration includes all of this information, not just the media files. I recommend method 1 from the earlier link as it sets you up with a backup mechanism to use in future. All hard drives fail eventually and often without warning, or at least a warning that is noticed and then heeded.
If the initial assumption is wrong, or you need help checking, just ask.
