How do I uninstall Fan Control?

I installed fan control on my MBP w/ Retina and changed my mind on it. I read the other posts but when in the library folder I couldn't find such files. I deleted the support files that I found in my "all documents" folder. I still have the fan control panel in my settings app. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall it completely and if needed reset It to Apples settings. Thanks for your time!

Use Finder - Go menu - Go to Folder & type in /Library/PreferencePanes   incuding the initial /
It's normal for the one in your Home folder to be empty.
>>just ctrl/right click on the item in System Preferences & choose Remove.
That should also remove it, without needing to use Finder.

Thing is i dont know how to enable CPU fan control/regulation ifd possible. Doesn't realy see anything anything in the mobo manual except mentioning AMD Cool’n’Quiet.
This fan i have installed is running fine but i thk it runs full speed all the time and that makes a lot of noise - not needed.
    Thx for any advice/tip/hint

40 °C is fine. The minimum fan speed can be set is a % of the full capacity.
Start with 12.5% and if the fan needs to adjusts it's fan speed too often and it get's annoying you can raise it to 25% or more.

  • How do I uninstall iCloud Control Panel 2.1.3 from Windows Vista

I no longer want this program on my computer. I tried uninstalling it from the Control Panel but I do not have the option to uninstall/change it. See image below. I have uninstalled iTunes and all other Apple programs.

I attempted the uninstall under administrator rights. No difference.
However, after an exhaustive search, I found the original installation files still on my computer under C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer. I ran the .msi files which prompted me with the options to install, repair or remove. Halle-freakin-lujah.Major pain has finally been resolved.

I bought a second hand MacBook Air (model: A1237) and noticed that it came loaded with Fan Control, an app for controlling fans no less, so I took a screen shot of it and was hoping that somebody could let me know if everything was functioning normally please?

    The fans should function normally.

  • Fan Control, firmware restore

I recently installed Lobotomo Software's Fan Control 1.2, but have since read (and seen) that it apparently modifies firmware to disable SpeedStep - with the result that the MBP no longer modifies fan speed once I uninstall Fan Control, while CPU speed remains constant at 2.2 GHz even when the AC adapter is plugged out & 'energy saving' selected.
First I tried the uninstall procedure on www.lobotomo.com (delete files, reset SMC). No success. Then I tried the Fw Restore CD (1.6 and 1.7), but neither seems to work. I've followed the instructions on Apple's FW Restore page, but the MBP doesn't behave the way they say it would - the sleep LED blinks rapidly, followed by the long beep, but even with the Fw Restore CD inserted it just boots as normal.
The Fw version is MBP31.0070.B07. Was I just using the wrong Fw CD? Is there anything newer than 1.7 anyway? Is there another way to reset the Fw, or remove Fan Control's modifications?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Right. Gathered as much from researching the problem, but thanks, will keep this in mind for the future.
Anyway, to update the fan speed issue - apparently it did not mess with SpeedStep, at any rate not the part of it that controls CPU speed (checked via MiniStat). But fans still won't kick in without Fan Control (which I'd really hate to have to install again, seeing how miserably it seems to work).
I've been monitoring fan speed for the past hour or so, and installed SMC Fan Control as a stop-gap, but apparently when left at default (2000 rpm) fans won't kick in until CPU temp is in the high 70's C. I started a couple of CPU-intensive (Parallels, Photoshop) apps just to check, and got a growl note (presumably from SMC Fan Control) telling me the Mac was too hot and that I needed to close some apps), at which point I chickened out and used SMC to bring the fans to 4000 rpm...
Is such behaviour normal? I mean, does the system generally wait for the temperature to get that high before spinning the fans up? Have I screwed up my MPB beyond repair?

  • Uninstalling smc fan control

i installed smc fan control on my MBP in an effort to keep it cooler. some time after i installed it, i reinstalled my OS in an effort to address some other issues i was having. i didn't uninstall smc fan control before i reinstalled the OS (mostly because i didn't think/know it would be an issue). however, once i finished my reinstall, i noticed my fans never sped up past the 2000 rpm default, even when the computer started pushing into the 160-170 degree range (according to istat). i felt i had to reinstall smc fan control again in an effort to preserve my hardware. i feel now that the computer probably has a better sense of how to use its fans than i do, so i want to uninstall smc fan control and let the computer control its own fan speed. what is the best way to do this?

thanks for answering-- i took a look at this earlier today. i guess the only reason i am trying to find out how to do this is because the smc fan control seemed to have a lasting effect even after i reinstalled my system software (which i assumed would blank everything). do you think dragging it to the trash will take care of it when reinstalling did not?

    Hi rhaughan,
I see that you have concerns about your operating temperature of your computer while using resource-heavy applications such as gaming applications. I have an article that will address some of the concerns you have mentioned:
Mac notebooks: Operating temperature - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201640
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
You should also see this article for even further information about your fans:

    Hi,
If you are not able to uninstall the software in the usual way from Programs and Features, you could try a third party uninstaller such as the application detailed below.
Download and install the free version of Revo Uninstaller from the link below.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-version.php
Run revo and see if this detects the installation.  If it does, right click on the icon of the program you wish to remove and select Uninstall. During the process you may be asked to delete registry entries, just select all and then click delete. Do the same for any left-over files and folders. Once the uninstall has completed, restart the notebook.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Random sound generated from external midi device even without a song opened... How to uninstall external control surfaces?

    Recently bought systems used :
         Roland FA-08 workstation
Mixingtable with USB connection Yamaha MG12XU
Mac Os X 10.9.4 Maverick with Logic Pro X 10.0.7
for each system the latest usb-drivers are installed
    Problem :
I get random noises generated (non-stop) from the connected synthesizer FA08 starting up Logic, even without a song opened.
(My midi local is switched of, that's not the solution)
The problem started (i think) installing the Mackie control for the DAW use as was suggested by the Roland manual
in Logic Pro X > Control Surfaces > setup...
Other than my remote control i now have Mackie controllers that i can not remove from the setup. Right click says 'delete' but
they are not deleted, the program even crashed once. Reinstalling Logic does not remove them either.
I read somewhere that there should be a 'controller rebuild'-command but that doesn't seem to exist.
And i have no idea why in the 'inspector', the host of the Mackie Control seems to be my I-pad (?)
I suspect that te problem is either some midi/usb driver conflict when used with Mavericks
or te use of the mackie controller conflicting with
the audio-bord of the yamaha mixing console MG 12XU (which seems to be working fine) or with the DAW controller of the FA 08
Audio/Midi setup of my computer seems to be installed correctly.
How can i uninstall this controller settings ?
Anyone has an idea why i get random noise generated?
Anyhow, it is impossible working with Logic this way..
    Please help..

In case you need to get back the default Logic control surface setup you can delete the Control Surface preference file and the default file will be rebuilt. It's a good way to get back to Logic's initial control surface setting. Also, if you had chosen to edit the Logic Remote CS entry instead of remove it there are adjustments that can be made, like disabling Active Sensing, or even disabling "Flash Mute and Solo Buttons" on the basic Control Surface Preferences pane.
Deleting the Logic 10 Control Surface Prefs.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences  in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Note: to get to the User-Library the tilde ~ has to be included.        ~/Library/Preferences

From the "standard warranty" exclusions on Apple's MacBook Pro support page:
    "EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS

I see nothing there about "firmware" specifically. "...non-Apple products" could refer to any third-party software.
Some might argue that (e) applies, but these fan utilities don't "significantly alter functionality or capability". None allows settings below Apple's default 1000 rpm setting. Nor do they defeat the default Auto fan mode, which increases fan rpms as the temperature increases.
Most of the people passing on warranty scares are well meaning, but the facts don't support their contention.
These fan utilities in no way resemble the thermal paste mods that were kicking around these forums a few months back. Remember? And even then, some here maintained that mod (where you actually open the machine) did NOT void the warranty as long as there was no damage done.
Heck, Apple doesn't even warrant their own software!
