How do I uninstall unwanted program or go back to a previous state?

I have a Canon MP640. I found a Mac install dis that I didn't realise I had
I tried to install. It reported that it failed
Now I notice some scan program icon on my top bar
I dont want it
I can see it in the applications folder
+ I have no idea what else might have been installed (even though the install said install had failed)
1. How do I uninstall?
2. How do I go back to a previous state? I only tried installing yesterday and nothing else has been installed since

So, if you see it in ->System Preferences->Users & Groups->[Login items], before you remove it with [-], control-click (right-click) the item and select Show in Finder to see where the program is located.

Go to:
Finder > Applications
Drag the Application to the Trash.
Empty The Trash
Dragging the Application Icon from anywhere else will not work.
The Icons of Applications in the (Finder > Applications) are actually the Application files.
If you right click an Applation in (Finder > Applications) and click 'Show Package Contents', all the files associated with the Application should be stored there.
So dragging the Application Icon in (Finder > Applications) to the Trash will uninstall it.

If the application did not come with an uninstaller, I use a program like AppCleaner (free).
It will usually delete .plist files and cache files that were installed with the Application. This is useful if you don't know where to look.
Just dragging the App to the trash is often not enough as you may not be aware of all the support files that were installed in caches, preferences, application support.
If I no longer have the disc image of the program, I will search for it on google, download the installer again and look for an uninstall option. If there isn't one, I use AppCleaner.

Are you unable to uninstall it from the app manager in the main settings menu? How about long pressing the app in the app drawer and dragging up to the notification bar? Does the app have a phone admin property checked in Settings-Security-Phone administrators? Sometimes, if it does, apps will not uninstall until unchecked.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Hi, HOW DO YOU PUT ALL MUSIC FROM IPOD BACK ONTO A PREVIOUSLY CRASHED COMPUTER IN WHIHC ALL MUSIC FILES WERE UNABLE TO BE RESTORED.
My computer crashed a few months ago and my IT guys were not able to restore my music files.. at least I can't find them. When I log into Itunes, all of my music and play lists appear but when I click to play a song in Itunes on computer, it says the files can not be found. My Ipod obviously has all of my music but I'd like to add more (without deleting what I've got on there) and to copy back whats on my Ipod back to my computer. If I plug together and my computer sync then I will loose all music... needing detailed instructions please.

if this isn't working, maybe try moving one that you are certain is in the correct format, manually. import it from scratch to your itunes, and then copy it to the ipod.
If i click 'import files' the only files it comes up with are text file. Should it be doing this?' So the only files i can import are written documents :/
If i select 'add files' it dosnt add them to my libary at all.
I tryed what you said, i deleted my movies then loaded one into my libary which i no is in the right format but it still said that it is unable to put into my ipod.

As a test I tried this:

To make this work, I needed to uninstall VisioPro first.
You may need to uninstall/reinstall Office, since your Office installation state may be inconsistent?

What app do you want to uninstall? If it's an app that is provided by the installation of OS X, e.g. Safari, Reminders, Notes, Mail, etc. - there are many others - they shouldn't be uninstalled.
If it is an app that was downloaded from the Mac App Store, in Launchpad click and hold its icon until it jiggles. Click on the 'x' in the corner to delete it.
If it's an app that was installed using an installer program it is always best to see if an uninstaller is available from the developer of the app (there is often an uninstaller bundled in with the installer package).
Other third party apps that are simply drag-installed into the Applications folder - like Skype, for example - can be just dragged to the Trash and will be deleted when the Trash is emptied.
