How do I update font from CS3 to CS5
I have been doing all of my design work on CS3 and finally left the dark ages for CS5. I converted my CS3 to CS5 on my old computer and things worked fine. Now, I have moved to a new computer with CS5 and when I imported my documents I got the missing text notice. It is for Lucidia Calligraphy and perpetua titling bold. I'm assuming those were fonts in the CS3 package. The question is can I import those fonts from the old computer into the new computer with CS5?? If so, how exactly would one go about doing that??
Neither of these fonts are installed with InDesign.
Restart your old computer and open one of the documents that contain these fonts. Then use Type > Find Font to get the location of these fonts (click the More Info button in this dialog). Note down the location, then use your OS to navigate to it (Finder or Explorer, it doesn't matter). ... Uh, I don't think CS3 had this wonderful option to immediately open an OS window at the font location in the Find Font dialog (yes, that same function that's not functioning on Windows 7!), but if it does you can use that instead.
Copy the font files on a removable device -- disk, USB stick -- or simply e-mail them to yourself. Then install them on your new system by following the approved steps for your specific OS.

Good to know:
the fonts are not stored in C:/windows/fonts
Nor are they in adobe/indesign/fonts
And last, it was not possible to pack a file, with fonts, on the old computer, export via USB stick, and then import into MacOS. MacOS did not like the fonts at all.
I called Adobe support to make them give me a new license key so I could install CS3 on MacOS and thereby get the fonts but they refused.

How to install fonts from CS3 into CS5?
At work I often need the font DIN which was installed with our version CS3. At home I have CS5 and I do not know how to install the needed fonts. I packed the relevant file with the fonts and other links into a directory but how can I install the fonts at my personal computer using Windows. When using a Mac it was quite easy to install the font, I just click at the font within the directory "fonts" and with another click on "install" I got the font. My PC however asks me which programme I want the file to open with - but which one should it be? It can't be Word, Photoshop, IrfanView or whatever. So what do I do? Can anybody please help me?
Well.. there are many different kinds of font files out there. Some of them advertise the type of font in the filename, e.g.
DINBold.otf
DINBold.ttf
DINBold.pfm
DIN.dfont
DIN.ttc
and so on.
Others, typically Mac fonts, don't have a file extension that tells us what kind of file it is. Of those Mac fonts, there's one kind that you can't use on Windows at all, because when you look at it in Windows the size is zero kilobytes. The fact that, at some point in the past, you moved a file from Mac to Windows without font problems does not make a platform-compatibility problem any more or less likely - perhaps it was all set in fonts you already had installed at home. The fact that right now it doesn't work in the Document Fonts folder makes me believe that you may have a Mac font resource fork problem - that's what would make the filesize 0k. If your fonts don't have file extensions (or if you have file extensions hidden by Windows, which is the way Win7 works by default) then you can't really know what kind of font file it is. Looking at the Properties of the font file will tell you, though.
Lastly: since you don't own an (extra) license for the font, you'd be ripping off the font developers by installing it on your home computer, although obviously not intentionally. -

There is no update, you have to purchase Logic 9 from the App Store, it's $199, which is close to the price of an update.
Warning, if you do purchase Logic 9 from the App store it will download 2GB of additional patches/sounds/loops...etc. This is for first time buyers so their App Store Logic will have some basics to work with before trying to download the additional 20+GB of loop/instrument data. If you have a full installtion of Logic 8 it's possible the 2GB of data Logic initially downloads will mess with the instruments and sounds you've been using, past projects may not load properly. Just something to be aware of. -

LightRoom 4 supports ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 7. Once processed with Lightroom, if you still need, you could take the photo in JPG or TIFF format into Photoshop CS5 for further processing.
Another option is to use Canon Raw Codec that would've come with your camera's box to process the RAW images and then take them into Photoshop. -

Make sure, you have a current backup of your Mac, i.e. your iPhoto Library. On no account risk the upgrade without a current backup. After upgrading to a newer iPhoto version, iPhoto will need to upgrade the iPhoto Library as well. Due to a current bug, the upgrade may go wrong and leave your iPhoto library damaged, if the system should crash during the upgrade, because of running out of storage or similar.
As Larry pointed out, the current iPhoto version 9.6 requires Yosemite, and the App Store will not offer the last compatible version for Mavericks. To upgrade to 9.6 you need to upgrade to Yosemite as well.
You should finish any book projects before upgrading, because the upgrade will change the themes of the books. So your books may change a bit after upgrading. -

I'm currently in the process of switching over from CS3 to CS5 on my iMac. I've successfully updated the main part of the suite but when attempting to update Acrobat was given a warning the scared me. It said something about possibly losing my current PDF's. It appears that you have to uninstall your old version of Acrobat before installing the new version. If I do that, will I lose all of my pdfs currently on my system or will they still be there after uninstalling the program and reinstalling it?
Straceylou16 no you will not loose your PDFs. It is only going to remove the old version of Acrobat. Your PDFs you have saved will not be affected.
