How do I upgrade my hard drive with Firmware - via Macbook Pro 13.3"
What is the best way to update firmware for a 400GB Samsung HM400LI 5400 rpm
hard drive?
The firmware file is a .exe file and since I am on my macbook pro I don't see
how I can do that.

Windows in Parallels and Windows under BootCamp are two totally different animals. When using BootCamp, you are booting directly into Windows. Windows has direct access to all hard ware. When you use Parallels, you are in a virtual Windows environment and all hardware access is done through OS X. However, having said that, I don't know how that SSD firmware updater works. There is a possibility that it may not like the way the EFI firmware talks to the drive. Most of those utilities are designed to work with machines that use a BIOS. It's probably best if you just confirm with the manufacturer if it will work or not.

How do i upgrade my hard drive on my 2009 macbook
I have a 2009 Macbook that has a 250GB hard drive that is full, I would like to upgrade it. Can someone tell me my options? Thanks
Any 2.5" notebook sized SSD or HDD. HDDs are now up to 1.5 GBs for notebooks. Visit OWC for options and prices. Hitachi has an excellent 1.5 GB HDD at a very good price point.

I want to upgrade my hard-drive in 2010 model MacBook Pro 13
I would like to increase the hard drive size on my 13" Macbook Pro from 250 GB to 500 or 750 GB. Amazon carries the WD5000BEVT and the WD7500BPVT drives. Reading various comments about them, I'm concerned about how quiet and efficient they are in a Macbook Pro 13. Some comments mention problems with the drives involving "clicking" sounds etc. What drives are safe for upgrading my Macbook? I also plan on using Bootcamp to run Windows 7 off the drive in addition to OS X if that makes any difference.
Any 2.5" SATA II drive will work inside your machine. However I would recommend looking at OWC's selection, because they specialize in Macs all of these drives are tested and known to work.
I just sold my MBP yesterday (looking to get an MB Air), I put in the 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid which I really liked. My boot up times went down to the 20-25 second range which was very cool. However that being said I also rarely rebooted as that isn't necessary on a Mac.

How do I get more hard drive space for my Macbook Pro?
I am losing hard drive space and I don't know why? Is something writing or copying on my Macbook Pro?
Thank you...The Hatter..This may be helpful information. I go to force suit and there is both Safari and "Safari web content not responding in red" and this may
be the problem. I delete files and I get up to 50 to 50 MB and then it goes right back down to zero with no use on my part. I made a mistake by
viewing **** on a CHatterbate site and I think that this may be the problem. How do I get rid of this virus, if that is what is happening> I ran Clam X and
it did not find anything...Thank you, again. -
Can you upgrade the hard drive on the new MacBook pro?
i Am buying a new MBP 13" but need to know if the hard drive can upgraded easily in the future if I need a larger drive.
Actually you can. The SSD is a PCie blade type SSD, and although you'll need to dissamble the MacBook, replacement is possible on a 2014 MacBook Pro with Retina display.
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Retina+Display+Mid+2014+SSD+Rep lacement/27849
It will void the warranty if you attempt this though.
RAM on the other hand is soldered to the Logic board. -
I recently bought a new Macbook Pro:
13 in, 2.5 GHz Intel core i5
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
500 GB HD
Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
Mid 2012 model
I'd like to install the 750 GB HD (with Bootcamp Windows 7 install) from my old macbook pro into my new macbook pro.
Here are the old computer's stats:
13 in, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
750 GB (This is a WD I bought and upgraded myself into the old computer)
Intel HD Graphics 300 384 MB
Early 2011 model.
My question is this: the guy at the tech shop said he didn't think swapping out the hard drives would work because the 750 GB HD in the old machine would have the drivers, etc. installed for that architecture. I think he might be wrong.
My question is this: if i were to swap out the 750 GB HD from the old machine, would I experience any issue in running both Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Windows 7? Or is homeboy right -- is this architecture too different?dfdevlin wrote:

That is normally the case, however Apple has been known to include the drivers for all previous models that can run that version of OS X when a software update occurs.
One way to find out is to remove the 750GB out of the old machine and use a SATA to USB adapter cable to the new Mac, then reboot holding the option key down for Startup Manager, which the external drive should appear as a bootable option, click the arrow and see what happens.
Even if it does boot, there is a issue of copy protected apps (and free iLife) not being compatible with that new machine. So you might want to test that for awhile and update etc., before doing a actual hard drive swticheroo.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If it doesn't work, you can use Migration Assistant in the Utlities folder and it will move all your apps and files from OS X. (using the SATA to USB adapter)
A paid program called WinClone 3 that runs in OS X can clone your Windows partition to the new BootCamp parttion on the 500GB drive.
Windows will complain because it's on new hardware, so you will have to jump through Redmond hoops. -

How do I Rename Mac Hard Drive with Home Folder Only?
Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro with an SSD which has OSX Snow Leopard and my Applications, and the other hard drive has my Home Folder. I replaced the optical drive with the SSD.
The other hard drive has the standard name of 'Macintosh HD'. I need to change it to something without spaces in order to get some developer software to work (i.e., it can't have spaces in the workspace name, and now that my Home folder is on a drive that doesn't have OSX, it refers to it as '/Volumes/Macintosh HD/.../...'
I ran into a disaster by simply changing the 'Macintosh HD' name to 'MacintoshHD' - It prevented me from logging in and I had to use the OSX Install disk to use the command line to rename the hard drive back to 'Macintosh HD'. My guess is because my account was referencing a home folder location that no longer existed.
My question is how can I rename my hard drive with my Home Folder? Can I change the hard drive name, and then immediately change my Account to reference the new hard drive name (and thus the new location of my home folder), and then reboot? Will this work if I do this in this order? Or is there another way to handle this entirely?
I'm very hesitant to try this again as I don't want to have to go back and use the OSX install disk - my SSD took the place of the optical drive and I have to go and take it out, put it back in...etc.
Any help is appreciated.
Regards
Chicago29I don't have a setup to test this, but you might try the following:
Create a second "normal" admin account with its home folder on the boot drive, then log out of your regular account and log into the new one. From there you could rename the large hard drive, then go to System Preferences>Accounts, select the first account, then right-click>Advanced options to change its home directory path to match the new HD name. That way you're not changing the home folder path "in mid-air."
It's probably a good idea to keep a tiny "self-contained" admin account on the boot drive anyway, so you don't get locked out in the event of future trouble accessing the large disk. -
How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro
How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro. I want to install office for Mac from a disk but dont know how to share har drive from macpro
thanksThe new iMac's don' t have DVD drives however almost all have a disk drive. The easiest method of installing MS Office for Mac on your new iMac is to download it from Microsoft and then input the code you received when you purchased your original license. Otherwise you can use the DVD drive on your MBP to install on your iMac, that feature is called Remote Disc. Instructions for Remote Disc can be found at:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287

I am trying to upgrad the hard drive in my mac book pro using the disk utility in an attempt to clone my old hard drive. I can only get so far throughj the process where its about to start cloing when I get a message " error 254". Any idea what that means and how do I get around this issue so I can use my new hard drive? Thanks for your input.
VinceConnect the HDD to your MBP. Open Disk Utility>Erase and drag the HDD icon inrt the Name field. The format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click on the Erase button.
Then try the clone process again. You may use Disk Utility>Restore or a third party cloning application such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper.

How do i transfer files an external hard drive to a new macbook pro
how do i transfer files from an external hard drive to a new macbook pro?
thank you. i did that with my old computer, and it saved it as a whole other computer on my new macbook. now if i do the same for the external hard drive, i guess it will save it as another separate computer on the new one. so i guess what i should have asked is, is there any way to copy my whole old computer and external, but have the files integrated into the new mac, so i don't have to log in and out of 3 computers just to use my old programs or to see pictures or movies or files from the past. ??? and i now have the apple tv and i have to turn on my macbook and log into the old computer to see certain old files and pictures or home movies???? there has to be an easier way???

can i restrict apple mail client from downloading all emails...and allow it to pick a start date for gmail mail to sync? i am flooded with old emails, thousands on them ...eating hard drive space of my macbook pro and un necessary overhead
The genius bar technicians can check your MBP for possible hardware problems and specific software issues that you may have. The diagnosis will be free. Any extensive repairs will not be free.
If you have minor software problems, you essentially will have to deal with them yourself. Examine these two comprehensive documents for possible problem definition and solutions. If you encounter problems that you are unable to cope with, start a new discussion and there will be persons willing to assist you in solving them.

How large can an internal hard drive be on a Mac Pro part #ZOD8 ?
How large can an internal hard drive be on a Mac Pro part #ZOD8 ?
Mac Pro tower can support drives up to 4TB is size.
If running 10.8.4, 10.8.5 or 10.9.0, there is a bug in Disk Utility that precludes proper erasing of drives over 2.2TB as Internal drives
