I am only a Lab View toddler.
I am currently using a push button, wired to PFIO/TRIG1 and DGND, with a anolog trigger. However noise is causing my program to be triggered. I was told that a digital trigger would help to reduce the random triggering. How do I create a push button digital trigger?

To poster: You need an OR condition on the outer loop's conditional terminal. One OR input comes from the Stop button. The other comes from the case structure. If you don't you can easily end up with an "off-by-one" execution since the button will get read very early in the loop iteration and it will use that value when deciding if the loop should exit or not. It won't use the value of the button at that instance in time (end of teh loop iteration).

I have a linear actuator and wish to get distance/direction. The
motor has a quad encoder with phase A and B only. I connected the
lines according the the E-series, PFI-8 and PFI-6, and ground to
digital ground. I then attempted to design a control with daqmx but
failed. I have tried the daqmx examples but none were attempting
a reverse in direction. Most examples given for direction change
are for traditional daq control; i cant make a correlation on what to
use to substite traditional daq with daqmx vi's.
2 questions:
How do I use daqmx to get encoder direction/count on E-series board?
Are there low pass filter vi's recommended for each phase connection to stabilize data?

Hello Wayne,
Take a look at the Count Digital Events.vi shipping example. You can find this in LabVIEW by selecting Help >> Find Examples... then browsing to Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Counter Measurements >> Count Digital Events.
If you set the "Count Direction" control to "Externally Controlled", you will be able to count up and down depending on which direction you rotate your encoder. Make sure you wire Phase A to Ctr0 Source and Phase B to P0.6. P0.6 is the up/down line for counter 0.

I do not use command line and tried to use ZapResourceForksAMAub_1.2 which I downloadedand instaled the Zap Resource Forks.action. Next I tried to use their sample copy-zap-rsrc.workflow in Snow Leopardon my Mac Pro. The 3 different steps are displayed in Automator but there is no place to put in which folder (on my deskto) to copy, and remove the resource forks from the graphic files.
Can sombody please step me through this please please.

How do I use directional PDA buttons in LabVIEW programs?

I've been assigned to get a LabVIEW program to work on a Palm PDA with LabVIEW 7.0 and palm PDA module 7.0. I am basically totally new to LabVIEW, and my possibly very simple problem is, the PC program requires input from a serially connected number pad for the 8, 4, 5, 6, and 2 keys which are used as four directions (8, 4, 6, and 2) and an enter (5).
I am trying to rewrite the input vi to use the directional buttons and middle enter button on the PDA itself but am having trouble figuring out what to use. I am using a PDA simulator because of the PALM OS5 we own. The input demo vi example provided will not build for PDA because of size so I am unsure of how to approach this. Another thing is, we have LabVIEW and PDA module for pocket PC 8.0, and a Dell Axim PDA on order. From what I understand off of this website, the latest PDA module has example button vi's. I would still like to figure out the way to do this on 7.0 so I can have a better understanding of LabVIEW. Eventually the program's endgoal is to be used on a PDA and inputting with a bluetooth keyboard, but we are going step by step right now.
I guess my biggest questions are, how do I assign the directional buttons on the PDA in my program, and will this differ greatly when we switch to 8.0 and pocketPC.
Oh and I did try to look at the example asteroid.vi but from looking at the input subvi, still couldn't figure out how they assigned the buttons.

I can't help with any specifics (no access to the PDA module at the moment and I didn't use the buttons anyway), but I would like to say that it probably would make a big difference if you used LV 8. 7.0 was the first version of the PDA module and was extemely limited and problematic (it didn't even have a tab control). 7.1 was somewhat better and I understand that 8 is even better (although still very limited and buggy).
I also remember reading about several differences between Palm and PocketPC and I think you will generally be better off with the PocketPC as it's related to windows and will probably support more stuff.
Try to take over the world!

How to use digital trigger with analog I/O

How do I program analog input and/or analog output to start on a digital trigger (PFI pin) on PCI-4451/4551.
I have tried out various configuration and succeeded in starting analog input, simultanuous input and output triggered by the the anlaog input signal. I have also succeded i triggering 4551 from the dedicated EXTTRIG pin.
The problem is to trigger on a selectable PFI pin. I find the help for "AI Trigger Config" and "AO Trigger and Gat Config" misleading - some unsupported features seem to work while selecting PFI pin as source make the PC restart immediately.
I have not been able to find any LabVIEW example that shows how to use PFI pin as trigger input.
Using LabVIEW 7.1, NI-DAQ 7.3 on Windows 2000.

Hello
The PCI-4451 does not have any PFI lines. If you look at the user manual in the link beneath you will be able to confirm this by looking at the connector signal discriptions. The same is valid for the PCI-4451

The two ways of triggering that you have succeded are the analog triggering and digital triggering that you can peform with the PCI-4451.
