How do I write to a usb hard drive when It says that I do not have permision
How do I change permission for writing to my usb harddrive that was previously used on a windows pc. At present it will not let me write and in
the top of the window there is a pen which is crossed out. Can anyone help?
More than likely because the drive is formated NTFS. OS X can read to NTFS, but not write to such. You would need to reformat in order to write to the drive. Are you going to use on both Windows PC's & your Mac?

I want to install a new hard drive on my 2008 MacBook but do not have the instillation discs that came with my computer. Can I use instillation discs from a 2009 or 2010 MacBook? The hard drive I am planning to install is a WD Scorpio Black 500GB SATA 2.5'' internal hard drive.
Sometimes they do work - i've done it before. I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive? It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.

How do I find installer? When I try to install downloads, the box says that I do not have the Installer I need.
If it's updates through the Office auto-updater that are having problems, that's probably an issue you'll need to take up on Microsoft's support site. If you're having problems installing Office from scratch and it's saying it can't find Installer, you may need to repair your hard drive. More help will probably be obtained if you post in the Mac OS X 10.6 forum; this forum, where you originally posted, is for help with the Communities themselves.

Just downgraded back to iTunes 10.7 and copied music from ipod classic to itunes using houdini, but how do i copy the playlists from the ipod when itunes says that my ipod has been synced to another itunes library?

I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.

Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

Since installing 10.7.3 my downloads say that I do not have enough space on my computer for the download. These downloads are never more that 200 megs or so and I have 270 gigs left on my hard drive. Somehow the remaining space on my hard drive is not being correctly read. What can I do to fix this? I have run permissions repair several times, but to no avail.
Th downloads do not finish. I am dowloading to a file on my desktop called MUSIC, but it first starts to download to my desktop and then I move it to the MUSIC file also on my desktop and I have been doing this without incident using 10.7.2 as well as 10.7.1 and 10.7.

When I move this version (3.6.12) to the applications folder on a new i-Mac, I get the message that I "do not have permission to access some of the items." I do have read and write rights on all applications and hard drive. Any ideas?

How to boot Powerbook G4 from USB hard drive using Mcintosh v10.5.2 install
Well I am Rider and I have been a mac user for at least 8 years. By far these OS's are the most advanced I have ever seen and it blows every other OS out of the water. My dad bought a Powerbook G4 8 years ago and it lasted 3 years till the hard drive crashed. My dad had it taken out and we still have the Powerbook G4 under the bed. When we bought a new macbook that came with the install disk 10.5.2, I was wondering if there was any way to use a USB 16gb Flash Drive as a hard drive and start up disk.
I have tried sticking the Install Disk in the G4 and after it says choose language for primary install, it says 'Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer'. It gives a few utilities to use such as Disk Utility, Start up Disk, Net Utility, etc.
So if anybody knows how I can boot a G4 from a USB using Mac OS X install disk 10.5.2, *PLEASE HELP*.

How to access an Airport Express USB hard drive from a PC?
I have a home network created by a new Airport Express base station (which replaced the previous AXBS that lasted 3 years and then died). Attached to its HSB port (with a USB hub) I have a WD USB disk and a Canon printer; I have another printer connected to one of the LAN ports. I have a mac attached to another of the LAN ports. Finally, my macbook connects to the network through the Airport. All peripheral items (disk, printers) work as they should from both macbook and the other mac.
I also have a PC with WI-FI that connects to the internet through the AXBS. The printers seem to work on the PC (with Bonjour for Windows installed), and I can access its disk from the macs, but I cannot access the WD AXBS hard drive from the PC.
The macbook and mac are running Snow Leopard and Leopard, respectively, and the PC is running XP SP2.
Can someone offer a suggestion for getting disk access to work from the PC? Windows or not, it shouldn't be this difficult.Click here and follow the instructions, assuming you're using an AirPort Extreme base station. The AirPort Express base stations can't use USB hard and flash drives and will ignore any connected ones.

Ubuntu linux machine can not write to connected usb hard drive
Hi, I bought a WRT610N router. I connected my USB drive to it, and it is working fine with my Vista Machine. However, my Ubuntu linux machine can not write to it. It can read it great, but it can not write. If I connect the drive directly to the Ubuntu device, it reads and writes fine.
I've set all the permissiosn and such in the router setup. I didn't need to do anything in Vista. Is there something I need to do in Ubuntu? I'm new to Linux so Imay have missed something.

How to erase a early 2008 iMac Hard drive when the screen is dead
My early 2008 iMac's Graphics Module has died for the third and last time. I want to erase the Hard Drive before I offer it up for sale as parts or just re-cycling. But with the Graphics Module dead it will not boot up, therefore no display. So how do I erase my data and restore to a clean OS?

I am trying to find a way to have a folder set up so that when I add to the folder(on the Desktop) a copy of the folder is also updated on an external hard drive. So I can have two copies of the contents of the folder, one on the desktop and one on the hard drive.

I'd like to have access to it via my iMac as well as my gf's win laptop.
I only can se the drive in Airport utility but am not able to use it (copy files, read files I put on directly connected to my iMac).

How do I save space in my hard drive when importing pictures into lightroom
Hi, I keep my images in one internal drive and I have light room in my main drive. When I import pictures from the other internal drive, am I taking up space in my main drive which has limited space. I only want to keep the applications, such as lightroom in one drive and store my images in the other drive. I do not want to duplicate the images and use up my limited space in the main drive that has my operating system and applications
