How do I change the name that appears on the emails I send?

My full name is in my Contacts, and includes all my e-mail accounts. I have a Yahoo account that I use for online purchases, and I've set my Yahoo account on my iPhone to only include my initials. When I send a message from my Yahoo account to another account (even my own, which is in my Contacts) it comes in with just my initials.
My main e-mail is a GMail account set up as Exchnage, but I have another GMail account set up as a "regular" GMail account on my iPhone. That behaves just as my Yahoo account does, though I don't know how other account types behave.

It currently has my dad's name because he set up the computer but he does not use it and I wanted to try and change the name to my own. I have tried system-preferences/users-&-groups and made changed the admin to my own name but that did not change the folder name. And when I clicked the "unlock to make changes" on the folder menu (left window in the picture) it did not allow me to change the name. Any ideas?

That is your admin account on the computer. Simple solution:
Create a new admin user account to your liking. Log into that new account then delete the old account.

Select the device when it is connected to iTunes. Click in the device name on the summary tab. Enter what you want.

My apple account was in my partners name , I have now changed it to my name .
The problem is my icloud email still shows up his name at the beginning of my email address. eg Jo Blogg ( [email protected] ) .
When I open up Icloud in browser it shows in the top right my correct name , but when I go into Account settings on Mac in the Mail it shows up my
partners name as the Full Name associated with the account . It doesn't give you the option of changing that name though.

Hey There I didn't need to change it as it shows my correct name in my icloud account. The problem is on my Mac where it still shows my Full name as my partners name.
For eg. if I send an email from "Mail" on mac and I use my icloud account then the name that shows up is my partners name when the email is received. If I send an email from the Icloud Mail box that I log into on my browser then the name that shows up when the email is received is my name which is correct.
When I go into preferences in "Mail" on my Mac to change my name, the name is ghosted out and doesn't allow me to change it ! ? It is here that it still show my partners name ?

There are ways of changing the home folder name but I would strongly advise against it.
Best way forward is to start over. You can create a new user with proper spelling of your name and make sure you assign administrator rights.
You can do it in System Preferences / Users
This is obviously only if you are fine with starting a new user profile and customising it.

You don't "remap" the icon; it is just an alias to your Mail application.
Open your Mail application, go to Preferences, and then click on Accounts. Call your ISP and, with Accounts open, ask him for the proper settings for you to enter for (or, go to their website and look up the information yourself):
Incoming mail server
user name
password
outgoing mail server
plus all ports (numbers)

However, everyone calls me by my middle name (Dave), so I would like to change my email to appear to come from 'Dave' rather than 'John'. Yes. Select one or more tracks (use ctrl or shift clicks to add/remove or extend a selection) then right-click or press CTRL-I to Get Info. Use the different tabs of the dialog to make changes.

Thanks for replying again. I've got a little bit further thanks to you. I tried the US keyboard layout as you seemed pretty definte that it should work. This time I applied the setting and also started the language toolbar and selected it from there.
Hey presto, I've got the @ where it should be. Excellent.
However the single quote ' works in a weird way. When I press it, it doesn't show up on the screen. But when I press another key, I get the single quote plus the next key I press. When I press the single quote twice, I get 2 of them. This is also the same with the SHIFT ' key. i.e. for the double quotes.
Very strange. I'll look at other keyboards and see where that gets me.

Wrong number in iMessage
simple fix
go to settings- messages - send and receive- select the numbers and emails you want to use - deselect the ones you don't need

reset all settings
settings-general-reset-reset all settings
now reconnect to wifi
settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes

If it's the iCloud email address that is incorrect, you cannot change it. If it's a non iCloud address, you can change it at My Apple ID
