How do you arrange 2 columns together in bin?

I have a bin of footage of 5 different tapes. When I click on the top of the reel column it will arrange
all my footage by tapes, which is great because all my tape 4 clips are together and tape 3 clips etc etc...
When I click on media start column it arranges everything by TC lowest to highest. The problem is now my tape numbers are all mixed together and not seperated as before.
I want to able to first group all my tapes and then arrange each tape from lowest to highest TC.
In Avid I did this all the time by first adjusting my reel column and the adjusting my media start column. Avid would keep all the tape numbers together starting from the lowest to highest TC.
Is this possible in FCP?
I don't want to have to put each tape in it's seperate folder.

I've just tried experimenting, to get all different tapes in an open browser window, to do what you are asking... can't seem to do it... I guess Log & Capture into smaller clips (as is recommended) and those clips into seperate bins is a personal preference...
This is done at the Log & Capture stage by creating new bins, naming them TAPE 'X' and when you capture the media, ctrl+click on the corresponding bin in the browser and choose 'Set Logging Bin' from the liitle menu... then all the media automatically goes to where it's meant to. Each time you change tape, re-set the logging bin and bob's your uncle... easy... organised... stress free.

I didn't try to make that happen, but no matter how I re-arranged albums using MartyLightroom's suggestion (below now), all of the iPhoto synchronized albums appear only in alphabetical order.

How do you string integers together?

I have the task of creating a program that will give you the resistance in ohms based on the color bands on the resistor. (This is a problem for a Labview course I am taking)
I know this program could be done a lot more efficiently but I am still a beginner. My real question is kinda hard to explain and probably has a very easy solution. I have 3 case structures all are controlled by string controls. The resistance should appear in an indicator based on the color band colors. If there is a wrong color or mistyped color a led lights up. My question is How do you put the first 2 color bands together without using a mathematical function. For example if you have blue-grey-red your resistance is 6800 so the blue is 6 the grey is 8 and the red is x100. How do you get the 6 and the 8 together to make 68? I am also going to upload what I have so far so you can see how elementary this really is.
I have worked on it for 2 days now and cant get it right!!

Multiply 6 times 10 and add 8! Then multiply by the mutliplier.
You may want to turn your string controls into Enums that way the colors can be selectable from a list and you won't have to worry about someone misspelling a word.
(Gray vs. Grey could be a source of problem.) Another possibility would be a text ring control so that you can get the value stored with the color name as well.
Another cool thing you can do is use color boxes to recreate the actual color pattern on the display.

Text styling issues - how do you balance columns?

Hi! I am setting up some custom paragraph styles and am running into some issues with the columns not ending in the same place. Please see atached screen grab.
My Body text settings are:
Embedded font - Berthold Imago family (16)
Justified
Line Spacing - 1.5
Line Spacing After Paragraph - 4pt.
Paragraph Indents First Line - 26pt
Prevent widow and orphan lines (checked)
Can anyone please tell me how to make the columns end in the same place? Is there a work around for vertical justification - a way to streach the leading?

You can't arbitrarily order entries in the Project panel. You can order items by any of the columns (e.g., by name, type). You can also order by the Comment column. When I want a specific set of items to be ordered in a custom order, I add tags to the Comments field and sort by that column.

How to re-arrange columns when outputting a SELECT statement?

Assume a table holds a lot of columns: A, B, C, D, E,......., Z
When outputting the result auf a SELECT statement the columns should be re-arranged as follows:
The first column should be E, then the second column should be C and then all remaining columns should
follows in a order as if there would be no re-ordering. How can I do this in SQL WITHOUT having to list all
columns individually like in:
SELECT E,C, A, B,D,F,.....,Z FROM .....
Furthermore the first and second column should not re-appear again (twice) as in a statement like
SELECT E, C, * FROM .....;
How can I achieve this?

If you have more output than will fit on one line, then you can
(1) Increase the size of the line, or
(2) Decrease the size of the output
or both.
Display issues like this always depend on your front-end.
For example, in SQL*Plus you can use SET LINESIZE to make lines bigger, and COLUMN to reduce wasted space within the lines.

How do you sum columns in same view

I have a search component (drag and drop the viewCriteria) with a table.
In the table is a column for an amount (number). I need to sum the amount and put it in the footer.
I have done this many times with master/detail. Lots of info on that on the web as well. Really simple.
In the view:
So I create a transient attribute (sumAmount).
I set the value to Expression and use one of the following (and several others that are not here).
On the screen:
drag SumAmount from the DC onto the footer. (OutputText no label)
OK so far!?
Run and query - (wishful thinking)
Change the query and new totals appear (not that far yet).
I have tried several permutations.
adf.object.sum("Amount")
sum("Amount")
adf.object.ViewVO.getrowset.sum("Amount")
All show absolutely nothing - I have the output text defined in the footer and the footer is displaying fine.
The table also has some dates in the criteria - when I generate the rowImpl - the search panel is rendered useless due to the Date Domain vs Sql Date ( I know how to manage this)
This has to be simple - just need to get a bit of help on it.
I have tried to do this similar to the master/detail (but in this case - no detail). Still no value.
I should be able to create a "formula" column without the use of java rowImpl.

Finally - I have all the pieces - they are (were) as follows.
1) create the View Object.
2) add the summary column (transient) (be sure to get the data type correct (Number or BigDecimal)).
3) create the view object implementation. (the Java tab in the view object - first box)
4) create the view row implementation and expose the accessors. (the Java tab in the view object - second box).
5) use Steve Muench's help to do the summation - it is a bit tricky and it has a depreciated call in it - but it works. (it is easy to modify to fit - just get the right attribute name for the sum & data type - I used Big Decimal)

6) add a footer to the table in the search page and drag and output text box into it (all one step with drag and drop) - leave it empty.
7) in the bindings page of the screen - add an attribute binding for the summary column from the Application Module.
8) once the binding is made, go back to the output text box and use the inspector to create an expression and bind the value to "adf bindings" - data - and select the view-backing definition from the binding you just created.
9) if you want to format this to right justified - surround with JSF HTML "panel grid - 1 column width=100% and style= text:align right - I usually do bold as well.
10) sit back, relax and run - it should work.

How do you arrange your checkboxes acording to their visibility?

Hi All,
I mean in our configuration forms we have many check-boxes and these check-boxes' visibility is changing according to application parameters, licenses etc. So I usually want to display the visible check-boxes by re-arranging their locations to keep the good looking in the screen.
I wonder how you handle these things ? Do you have some common libraries to these things ? Do you have a procedure that you only pass the data-block and some size restrictions and have it handle all the arrangements for you?
What is best way to follow for these things ?

Yes, it can be a pain if you have a lot of checkboxes. You may consider using a different (stacked?) canvas for the various possible layouts--if there aren't too many possibilities. Then just show/hide the canvas.
Since you can't have the same checkbox appear on differnt canvases, you'd have to create duplicate checkboxes (with different names and/or blocks). Then your code will have to interact with the checkboxes on the canvas that is current showing. Not sure if that will be any easier though...
Another possibility is to create non-database checkboxes and rename the prompts as the application requires. Then before doing a commit, copy the non-database checkboxes to respective database checkboxes. Hide the ones not being used (the ones showing will always be in order). The challenge here is keeping track of which nondatabase item corresponds with the database item.

How do you autosize column widths in a multicolumn listbox?

I know that it's possible to autosize row height, but I can't find anything relating to autosizing column widths in a multicolumn listbox. This makes what I'm doing difficult, because I want to be able to have dynamic content and won't know beforehand how wide to make the columns. Therefore, I need to do it programatically or find something already built in.

I did an example along the lines of the suggestions above and it works pretty well. I'll attach it here. Note that this only works for 13pt font. If you want to scale this example to include larger font, then you can get that information from the cell height property, which does autoscale by default. The cell height is usually about 2 larger than the font size (i.e. 13pt font = 15 cell height, 24 pt font = 26 height).
This example is written in LV7.0. What would really be cool is if someone would write an XControl for LV8 that would do all this automatically and require no extra block diagram code! If only I had the time...

How can you Keep column links when using export CVS

I am exporting a report using Report Template of export: CVS. This report is a copy of a report that have column links that work. However, when I export the report using export: CVS the excel file no longer has the links in the columns.
How can I get the link to be transferred to excel?

When you export anything as CSV type it is a plain ordinary text file - MS Excel opens it because it has knowledge of this type of file (ie text delimited by comma/tab).
You seem to need a bit more than that - best if you search the forum for ¨excel¨ or maybe ¨report exports¨. I believe there are some threads here that may help - I think it needs java or some fancy PL/SQL to do it.

How do you make columns invisible/visible or hidden with checkbox?

Hi , i'm trying to make a column in a table either visible or invisible when i click a checkbox or button.
i have a single row table with mutiple columns of text objects within, i have set the "repeat data for each row item" to min 4, so i have four diplayed on page.
i have set the checkbox with the following script but it only makes the first row of "Received" visible when i click on the checkbox. and not the other
3 "Received" textobjects.
example:

It does help to see the form!
Basically you need to loop through all of the instances of the detail row and change the presence of the received object individually.
First the script would calculate the number of rows:
var vRows = Productdetails._detail.count;
The use of _ before the repeating detail is shorthand for instanceManager.
Then the if statement would change slightly, with the insertion of a for statement which works through all four rows.

How do you arrange instruments in logic express?

I am new to Logic Express 9. I have created an 8 bar song and I want to make it longer and arrange my track so I can remove and add sounds as the song goes along. For example Remove a piano at bar 4 and have a guitar playing at bar 8. How can I do this?

Did you assign the delay on the vocal track's "Insert" button? If so, this could be the reason your vocals sound jumbled. You can always lower the "wet" signal in the delay itself, but I find that the following method works best when using reverb and/or delay:
1. From the Arrange window, select/click the vocal track you want to use delay on.
2. Looking at your track on the left hand side of the screen, right below "Sends," hold-click on the button and select Bus>Bus 1(or whichever one you want)
3. An "Aux" track will appear right next to your vocal track.
4. Load either delay or reverb on the inserts and choose the appropriate setting. I prefer using either Stereo or Tape delay since they have better options to work with.
5. On your vocal track, on your "Sends," you can turn up the volume right next to it, which controls how much of your vocal track you want to send to the aux to get that reverb/delay. Start with -10 db and work your way from there. You should notice a difference by then. You can also control the fader from the Aux as well.
As far as fadeouts are concerned, I haven't really figured that out. I normally fade out when I use a separate mastering suite, but you can also fade out manually using the Automation method on the Master fader.
