How do you configure an ipod in Windows format if you don't have a dirty PC

Bear with me on this one! We've just got a new Fiat 500 and it says, to play the ipod through the in car system, that you have to configure the ipod as an external disc - done. Then it says:
'if the configuration has been made on an Apple, make the configuration in Windows format; memorize the music tracks as mp3 files not protected from copying'
Does anyone know if this is even possible on a macbook with no windows pc anywhere to be seen (thank god!)??

If you are in a country where you can re-download films then they might show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on it for re-downloading. Otherwise, if you don't have a copy of them anywhere (and if they are still in the store) then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
On your laptop, what you can re-download will show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage :

  • How do I download iCloud on a Windows PC if I don't have Windows 7 or 8?

I have had a iPod 2nd Gen for 3 years now, and I've wanted to update it for a long time. (I thought about buying a new one, but they're too expensive, and before you know it the iPod 6th Gen will be out the week after I buy the new model.) I didn't want to lose all of my iTunes spendings and apps, and one of my friends told me about iCloud. I thought I would give it a shot, excited. I knew it wasn't as easy as it looked. We only have Windows XP and Vista. Not Windows 7 or 8, which is needed to download iCloud. It would be great if there was another way to to download it without going to all the trouble of updating my computers, which would cost as much as a new iPod. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

You could install iCloud on your Vista computer (if running Vista SP2) using iCloud control panel for Windows 2.1.2: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1687.  However, you can't run iCloud on an iPod Touch Gen 2.  iCloud requires iOS 5 or higher and your iPod can't be updated beyond 4.2.1.
If you want to back it up on your computer using iTunes, connect it to your computer, launch iTunes and sync it.  It will automatically back it up to your computer when it syncs.  (There is more inforation on this in this article under "iTunes: How to Back Up": http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766.)  If you never synced with iTunes before you might not want to do this as it will remove all your purchased media from your iPod and replace it with the media in your iTunes library.
Also, you can always redownload your purchased media again if you need to, as long as it's still in the iTunes & App Store, by following this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.

You do not. The iPod will only sync to iTunes.

  • How do I reprogram my ipod from Windows to Mac?

How do I reprogram my ipod from Windows to Mac?

Connect the iPod.  Decline any offers from iTunes to sync it, if this is the first time the iPod has been connected to the Mac.  When the iPod appears in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES, select it there.  Over to the right, on the Summary tab, there is a Restore button.  Click it.  Follow the prompts.
Restore will erase the iPod and install the latest software, using default settings.  If it is connected to a Mac when you do the Restore, it will use Mac formatting during the erase.  That's basically the only difference.  The software is the same, so it is not really "reprogrammed."

Thanks for the feedback Skhorchid.  Glad it worked for you too.
A bit later I discovered that Photo Stream was not working on my Windows 7 PC either.  If I opened the iCloud control panel and put a check in the box to turn on Photo Stream, and then closed and reopened the control panel, the check mark was gone again.  Also, nothing happened when I clicked on the options button beside the Photo Stream check box.  I already had version 2 of the iCloud control panel so I could not upgrade further.
I ended up uninstalling the iCloud control panel, rebooting, downloading a fresh copy from Apple, and reinstalling it.  This worked and I now have photo stream working on my Windows 7 system as well.

have firefox 3.0.10 on my Mac with OS X .5.6 I can download the latest version of firefox, 7.0.1 dmg. I can open that and get a drive on the desktop. I am the only user and system administrator. How can I not have sufficient privileges? but when I drag the firefox program to the applications folder I always get this message from the firefox program. "you don't have sufficient privileges to open firefox" What is going wrong to prevent me from updating my firefox?

    See:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • How do I get the history and bookmarks to be functional when my Mac responds with "You don't have permission to rename the item "places.sqlite" as recommended in Solution 2, Part 2 - Create the database"?

Since installing Firefox 4 on my MacBook OS X version 10.6.7 I've been unable to activate my Bookmarks or history. When logging on Firefox I get an error message "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application." When I follow the direction as stated in "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional, Solution 1: Restart your computer," it doesn't help. When I attempt Solution 2: My computer generates, ""You don’t have permission to rename the item “places.sqlite”

Start at http://www.mozilla.com and download the latest
version. '''At the completion of the download don't let the setup start Firefox for you, when the setup ends, start Firefox in your normal manner this way you will be less likely to create a new profile.'''
The extra startup pages are temporary -- read them. The next time
Firefox comes up you should be back to starting with your normal home page.
'''Note: Firefox must be down once the install starts. '''
Close Firefox with File>Exit. Then make sure Firefox is not running --
On Windows: check the "Processes" tab in the Windows Task Manager.
'''On Mac: Firefox > Quit then Command+option+Esc, if Firefox running use Force quit'''

  • How do you get your options in your workflow incamera raw 6.0 to  stay so you don't have to change them everytime?

How do you get your options in your workflow in camera raw 6.0 to  stay so you don't have to change them everytime?

No one, absolutely no one should be using Adobe Camera Raw 6.0.  You should be on Camera Raw 6.7.
Don't rely on the Adobe auto updater to tell you there are no available updates and assume "everything is up to date". That auto updater was totally unreliable until CS6.
The workflow options are absolutely sticky.  You should not have to change them at all unless you want to.
If they're not after you update ACR to 6.7, you'd need to troubleshoot your system.

Hello this week I'm unable to open any pdf's with preview, when I select to open a window opens up with message "file couldn't be opened because you don't have permission to view it" none of the pdf's have any security thanks if you can assist

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
