  • How do you import music from a CD on the new mac

I can't seem to find a slot to insert a CD so that I can import music from CDs onto my new Mac... Do I need to buy an additional drive for this...?

You need to purchase a third party manufacturer external optical drive.
People, you need to start paying attention to things before plunking down thousands of dollars on a Mac that you have no idea what features it has or has not.
The whole reason the iMac is super thin, now, is because of its lack of an optical drive!
There is no optical drive thin enough to be able to be installed into iMacs, now.
JUst by looking at this iMac, common sense should tell you there probably isn't any room for any DVD or memory card slots of any kind on the sides. That's why Apple designers had to place the memory card slot on the backside of the iMac, now.
If an internal optical or SuperDrive isn't mention in the new iMac's features specifications list, it no longer exists.

  • How can i restore my entire iTunes library onto my new mac book pro from a previous time machine backup?

after using the migration assistant, it appears that only my iTunes purchases loaded into my library on the new MCB, not allllll the other mp3's i've loaded in from other sources, although they are sitting in the back.up folders on my external drive. those mp3's have to be opened manually to get them back into iTunes. there has to be a more effiecient way to load these tunes right?????

The second Article guides you to copy the whole iTunes Folder which will include linbrary and all media type:

  • HT201456 I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc.

I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc. When I get the the choice of partitions to install Windows 8.1 on the Windows installer says that the Bootcamp partition is not valid.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

If you are syncing using iCloud, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (computers) and checking Safari. If it is checked, try deselecting it, wait 10-15 seconds, and then check it again.

  • How good is the new mac-book pro at running PC games, will it run...

I currently have a mac mini which i have boot-camped for playing PC games.
Many of the new games exceed the graphics spec of my mac.
I am considering buying one of the new mac-book pro's.
Could someone please tell me if the new macbook pro runs the following PC games through boot-camp .
    1) Call of duty 4
    2) Battlefield 2
    3) Rainbow 6 vegas (1 and 2)
I know it is possible to get some of the above games for OSX but i want them on PC so i can play them over my local area network with other PCs.
    Thanks
P.S: the new mack book has: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512/256 MB

    ziggy067,
Both the Macbook Pro and your Mini will run Windows games, under Windows, just like any other similarly-configured PC.
In other words, the new Macbook Pro, and indeed any of the Macbook Pros, will run the games you list just fine.

  • I have transferred Word files from my PC to my new Mac Book Pro and some of the files cannot be clicked on and opened or even deleted because you can't select them. There are a variety of document files and pdfs etc. Any ideas ?

I have transferred word files form my PC to my new Mac Book Pro. Some of the word files are feint and will not open as you cant select them. Also you cant delete them either because the cursor wont highlight or select them. Any ideas anyone?

Have you tried looking at the file in list view in the Finder and seeing if they actually occupy any space? i.e. "Size"? There shouldn't be any problem with Office documents, Adobe pdfs, etc. If they migrated properly - did you use Migration Assistant or some similar utility?

  • Trying to install Deskjet 3054A wireless printing with brand new Mac Book Pro

    Hello,
I am trying to set up the wireless printing function on the Deskjet 3054A with a new Mac Book Pro, but not having any luck. When I connect via the USB the printer shows up, but once disconnected there is no communication. I tried to get the updated driver on the HP site, but nothing ever downloaded and it kept taking me to the setup page.
Is this All-In-One compatible with the new Mac OS 10.10 for wireless printing?
    Thank
    Scott

    Hello Sabuff,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some connectivity issues to you Mac 10.10.
Just so you are aware, the printer does not have a full feature software and driver package available for the Mac 10.10 operating system.
You can however try the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Please feel free to write me back with any other questions or concerns.

  • Transferring some files from old hard drive to new mac book pro: How do I do this?  I bought a SATA Wire, and can't figure out how to get my files

Hi there, my old mac book recently died and I opted to buy a new macbook pro, instead of pouring lots of money into the old computer.  I was able to get my hard drive out, and I bought a 2.5" Sata Nootbook Drive Upgrade Kit.  I have also installed superduper!....but I can't really figure out how to get everything to work.  I just want to be able to take some of my files from my hard drive, not everything...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I don't know what a "2.5" Sata Nootbook Drive Upgrade Kit" is but if you have a internal drive you need to connect all you needed was a $20 IDE/SATA to USB adapter
You don't need Superduper, that's software designed to clone a entire Mac's boot drive to a external drive for bootable backup purposes using the same machine/make/model.
Since the new Mac is different than the old one you can't clone (well you could but it will break the machine) the old drive to the new one.
However you can use the adapter above and software Apple provides in the Utilities folder on the NEW MAC, called Migration Assistant to transfer your User to the new machine.
However this might not be the best course of action as it can transfer unwanted data and cause problems in the Library, old programs that won't run on 10.7, etc.
You can simply create the same named user on the machine (System Preferences > Accounts) log into it and then connect the external drive with the adapter and copy the contents of your users folders over and place into the same.
It's always good to have another Admin level user account on the machine in case the primary one has a User based issue and you need to log into the other and grab files. So if either manually or via using Migration Assistant you wind up with two user accounts on the machine, it's really not that big of a deal.

  • How do I transfer data from two computers onto my new mac?

I recently bought a new macbook pro with retina display after owning an iBook G4 and a powermac for 7 years but I now want to transfer the data from both of my computers (which both only have one account) onto my new computer. I'm wondering if it is possible to transfer the data from both of the computers onto my new one and if so how. Another issue is that my ibook had recently broken but the only issue was the ram was not working so I had the data recovered and put on an external hard drive so now what was on my ibook is now on an external hard drive. I really want to know if I can still transfer both computers onto my new one or if I can only transfer one of the computers onto my new one and I have to transfer the other one manually. Any ideas?

Migrating is simple and complicated at the same time, in your case simple to transfer files (e.g. films, pictures, docs...), and difficult for settings and all hidden stuff. My piece of advice is to use iBackup (grapefruit.ch) for system settings, which does not take too much, and simple drag-and-drop from older macs unto the new one. I would use firewire, as Retina does not this port, try to purchase a FW-to-ThB adapter, it may be worth having it. Connect the new mac to the old ones one after another, and restart the old ones in target mode (press T after chime), they will turn intro external drives, and may easily transfer anything.
If you are not familiar with iBackup, perhaps it is better to Migration Assistant, I do hope it works with older Mac OS. Note that, used after settings a new mac, it will create new users for the transfered data. The advantage is, they will transfer files and settings, but perhaps more than you really need.
Ort, as BGreg says, manual transfer of all files, this may prove slower, but you may have full control of all operations.

Take a look at Migration Assistant, in the /Applications/Utilities folder.  You can use a Time Machine backup to restore your data files.
