How do you transfer apps from an iPad to iPad2

how do you transfer apps from iPad to iPad2

If you just want to install the apps then you can either sync them from your computer's iTunes or re-download them directly on the iPad 2 : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you want to sync the apps and their content from the frist gen iPad then you can backup the iPad 1, and then restore the iPad 2 from that backup (a list of what is included in a backup is in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079 - it excludes music, videos, synced photos). As the backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their settings and content, for the restore to work completely you'll need all the relevant apps in your computer's iTunes library - otherwise the restore won't be able to install the apps and therefore their content (if you don't have the apps on your computer then you can re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519)

I'm not using iCloud, so do not know for sure.  I feel as if I have more control by using iTunes on my computer, to determine what is on my iPad, and what gets deleted.
If your wife will share the same Apple ID with you, you do not need to remove everything from the old iPad.  She can share your purchased Apps, music, et cetera.
In iTunes, you can have several iOS devices sharing Apps under a common Apple ID, but you can also "uncheck" specific Apps you do not want on one of your devices.  Each device has an identity so iTunes should remember which App goes on which device during future syncs.
If your wife will have her own individual Apple ID, you need to go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.  This will return the iPad to factory defaults, except it will retain the latest iOS version installed.

There are purchased items on the iPad “Laura Crowell’s iPad” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPad.
This is the message I get...and I don't know how to transfer these to the iTunes library.  Perhaps this is my question??

  • How do I transfer apps from one ipad to another

Let me start off by saying that itunes confuses the crap out of me.  I am a moderately saavy tech person and even spent a morning watching youtube tutorials a while back and still I can barely figure what to do in itunes.  I get by.
So, my son had an ipad and we have bought an app through the app store that was around 30$.  It was an educational thing, so an important one.  Got him a new ipad yesterday and now I need that old app to be transferred onto the new ipad.  Called the app company who said I needed to do it through itunes.  So I hooked up the old ipad to my computer, it opens up itunes and asks if I want to update.  I figure yes.  Start the update.  Says it will take 6 hours. Cancel the update.  I click on the ipad icon in the top left and see at the bottom of the next screen, a sync option.  I figure, ok, I need to sync this so that the app is now on my computer so I can then transfer it to the new ipad, right?  I sync.  I unplug the old and plug in the new ipad.  I sync again, thinking, ok, now it should be there, right?  Nope.  I check the app list....it's not there.  5 dozen other stupid kid apps making food and hairstyles...no educational app.  I plug the old one back in...this is useless.  I can't figure out how to see the educational app on the old ipad through my computer....
What the heck am I doing wrong!?!

Syncing copies content from your computer's iTunes to the device.
If the app is still in the store then you should be able to redownload it directly on the new iPad via the Purchased tab in its App Store app.
Or, to copy the app from the old iPad (and other any other download that's only on the iPad) connect it to your computer's iTunes and use the File > Devices >Transfer Purchases menu option to copy it over :
To sync it to the new iPad, connect it and select it in iTunes, and select its Apps tab e.g. (if using the current version of iTunes)
On the right-hand side of the screen find that app in the listbox of apps and click the 'Install' button next to it, and then click the apply/sync button bottom right to install it onto the iPad.

  • How do you transfer data from one iPad to another when upgrading models?

    Hello.
I am about to sell my iPad 1 and buy a new iPad.
How do I save my old setup and keep my purchased Apps (music, etc)?... I already made a backup in iCloud, but don't see any menu to allow for restoring any or all my information...
Should I deregister my old iPad before or after I reset it to factory setup?
Is there anything else I should I do before selling the device?
    Thanks,
    Jacques

If you only backup with iCloud and have never used iTunes, then there is nothing more for you to do. But you have the iPad original so I'm guessing that you must have used iTunes at some point. This is what I would do - if you still use iTunes.
Backup the iPad, transfer purchases into iTunes, and sync one last time. If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

After you have all content saved in iTunes and iCloud go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings to wipe the old iPad.
When you get the new iPad, restore from your backup and then sync with iTunes. You will have the option of restoring from iCloud or iTunes when you set the iPad up. I used iTunes because I still use iTunes as my main backup and iCloud as my "backup" backup.
At some point, remove the old iPad as an associated device in iTunes. Do this after you erase the iPad,

  • How do you transfer data from one iPad to another after manual setup of new device?

Okay so, i just got a new iPad air, to replace with my old ipad 2. I have already set up the new ipad, and backed up the old one. I went into the settings of the new iPad, and hit 'Restore from backup'. When i did this, it restored the ipad to the backup, but it only managed to get all of my photos, and three of my apps. None of my music was transferred, and neither was the rest of the backup. Now i cannot figure out how to transfer the rest of the data to the new ipad. How do i do this??

  • HT2518 how do i transfer Apps from my iPad to my new Macbook pro

I am trying to sell my old iPad for a new one with more space, and i have also recently purchased a macbook. What i want to know is how to seamlessly transfer all my APPS, and other files. I have game apps, stoarge apps like skydrive, evereader pro, and other Productivity apps such as iWriter where i have a lot of write-ups in it. With iWriter App, worse case scenarios is that i'll painstakingly copy and paste all that i have written in it; however, this isn't achievable with files I have stored in various folders on my other storage apps i downloaded from the apple store.
in short, i'd like some help with wiping my ipad clean without losing all that i currently have in it

Thanks for your reply. I will try your suggestion regarding backing up old device. As for the apps i downloaded, i have no issues downloading them again but what about the ones i had purchased? that's the first question. Secondly, like i mentioned in my original question, a few of the apps i downloaded already have in them files i have copied in (e.g. evereader pro) and some of them like the iWriter and e-Bibles which have write-ups and annotations/highlights respectively. I  would like to know how to (if it's possible, that is) copy those apps into my new device without losing my writings, annotations, saved files etc
