  • How to get Adobe Air-apps to run *properly*? (Voddler ecpecially)

    First: I am running AMD64, and have installed the bin32-adob-air from AUR.
    The problem is, this does not work as it should. Air apps are never "installed" like they would be in Windows, or Ubuntu with the adobe-air from adobe installed. This causes problems with remembering configs and storing data between instances. Wimp, t.ex. will never remember my password, now matter how many times I check the remember password-box. And When running VOddler it just won't find the config file.
    I am trying to run Voddler in linux now, following this. But it won't work.
    I just get an "error reading config file" message when starting it using the adobe-air command (ie. the script from the package. Thinking the problem might be caused by the script running air apps from a temp dir, i aslo tried to run
    [gert@blad opt]$ /opt/adobe-air-sdk/bin/adl -nodebug /opt/airapps/VoddlerPlayer/META-INF/AIR/application.xml /opt/airapps/VoddlerPlayer
    after unpacking the Voddler Files there, but no luck.
    I see that there are a newer version of Voddler out now, and I will try that, but I'd appreciate any help with this spesific issue.
    Also, I would like to know if there is any way to get the "full Air experience" where you jut click-and go, and can install Air-apps the simple, proper way "everybody else" does it. Cause Air right now is a major hassle. Is there any chance of getting the Adobe-Air installer from Adoe work on Arch, or at least get a similar result? Integrated in the system, detected in the browser on  webpages etc.

  • We were wondering how you stop some apps from running with out deleting them something like a task manager and in my settings im missing the application button in it how do i get it back and stop some apps its making it run really slow

    how do you stop apps with out deleting them i have looked for something like a task manager and nothing and researched about it and it says to go into your settings and then click applications but i dont have one can someone please help[ me thank you

    Double click the Home button. The bottom row shows the recently used apps. Touch and hold the app until they all start to wiggle then tap the circled minus sign by apps you want to remove. Press the Home button to return to normal.
    However, that is recently used apps not apps doing something. Some apps will do things all the time/periodically like checking for Notification, new mail. Yu can turn those off in the apps themselves.
    Just what are you trying to accomplish?

  • Registering a Java App to run with Windows NT

    I couldn't find a solution to this in searching, perhaps because it's something obvious I'm just missing.
    I've created a Java app which monitors ASP pages every hour to see whether or not the engine is running. That works fine. I want NT to launch this application every time the server boots, but am clueless as to how to do that. It's easy enough for me to reference the app in a .bat file, but I still don't know how to get that to launch, let alone have NT simply run the main method.
    In this instance, I'm using IIS. Is there something that it uses to launch a Java app automatically?
    Thanks in advance.

    I would try just inserting the call in the
    autoexec.bat file a la:
    javaw myApp
    Mark (aka Ekmel)Except, o Evil Adobe, NT doesn't use an Autoexec.Bat.
    I tried popping it into the Startup folder, but it
    doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks, though.My autoexec.bat file is in the startup folder and it
    seems to be setting the path and classpath
    correctly. I'm going to refund your Duke unless/until I'm
    able to help you out.

  • Need help getting this Java app to work on Mac OS X

    Aloha all,
    I am testing this new Java app that was built that is based on th Axis and Allies strategy gaming engine. On the PC the author wrote a .bat file to launch the app and the JVM. But when I try and enter the arguments on the Mac OS X via the terminal window I get the Usage/Options argument options back. The ,bat file goes as follows:
    java -Xincgc -classpath ../classes;../lib/crimson.jar;../lib/jaxp.jar games.strategy.engine.framework.GameRunner
    It looks to me as if OS X if having problems with -Xincgc argument. I checked to see if I needed to download the JVM, but according to Apple it is already built in. Is there another way to enter the arguments to get this app to launch?
    Maui Duck

    Does OS X use ';' as a separator like windows, or does it use ':' like UNIX. that might be the problem.

  • Password box if Java app is run on Japanese Windows

    Hi,
    if we run our Java application on a Japanese-only (i.e. no multi-language) Windows, at start-up a dialog box asking for a password is displayed. We use Java 1.3.1 and i18n.jar for internationalization.
    Adding the option -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1 or ISO8859_1 or Cp1252 does not help.
    Any ideas, what could be the cause of this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Friu.

    Hello Sim085
    thanks for your reply.
    Perhaps it would be easier for us to continue the programming with any kind of VisualStudio Produkt ;-), although we dont't had to think about OOP yet!
    Because of our new Network-Technology (Terminal-Server) we have to discuss serveral possibilities.
    I've read about JSP and ASP.NET, and I want to know if JSP or any kind of JAVA Program will run on a Terminal-Server.
    Are there any special aspects I have to know when running JSP on a terminal server from Microsoft? Is it better to program applications in JAVA or in JSP? ...
    Thanks

  • How does a java app get rid of non-garbage ?

    Not sure if I should rather post to "New to Java", but it's related to JNI as well:
    I have a dynamic library, a corresponding Java singleton class and some other classes declaring native methods in that dll.
    "All" is fine for the moment, except that eventually a test application does not terminate when exiting main().
    I had the fear it has to do with some static Java objects which are never gc'ed and I built a test scenario like this:
    public class Test1 {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              boolean explicitGC = false;
              createObj();
              createObj();
              createObj();
              createObj();
              if (B.getIt() == null)
                   System.out.println("All is gone");
              else
                   System.out.println("leftover: "+B.getIt().toString());
              // B.getIt().destroy();
              if (explicitGC) {
                   Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
                   rt.gc();
                   rt.runFinalization();
              if (B.getIt() == null)
                   System.out.println("All is gone");
              else
                   System.out.println("leftover: "+B.getIt().toString());
         static void createObj() {
              A myA= new A();
              System.out.println("Created " + myA.toString());
    class A {
         B b;
         public A() {
              b=B.getSingle(this);
         public void finalize() {
              System.out.println(this.toString() +" finalizing");
         public String toString() {
              return "A@"+hashCode()+" referencing "+b.toString();
    class B {
         private static B myself;
         private A a;
         private B(A _a) {
              a = _a;
              try {
                   System.load("c:\\path\\MyNative.dll");
              } catch (UnsatisfiedLinkError e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         public static B getSingle(A creator){
              if (myself==null) {
                   myself = new B(creator);
              return myself;
         public static B getIt() {
              return myself;
         public String toString() {
              return "[B created by A@"+ a.hashCode()+"]";
         public void destroy() {
              System.out.println( toString()+" being destroyed now");
              myself = null;
         public void finalize() {
              destroy();
    } <Sorry for the long code.>
    This test does not show any problem, although the static B.myself is never destroyed explicitly, and neither the creating B.a object, if I remove the
    B.getIt().destroy(); and the block contolled by explicitGC .
    Now, it's a miracle for me, how JVM manages this nicely in this test app, and even unloads the DLL automatically.
    My original problem is just slightly more complicated:
    class B is extended by
         private native long Create(String url, String usr, String pwd);
         private native void Destroy(long obj);
                    private static long obj;
         private B(A _a) {
              obj = Create(myURL, usr, pwd);
         public void destroy() {
              Destroy(obj);
         }Intention was to clean the native objects whenever the corresponding Java singleton object disappears.
    A wise rule says "Leave the GC do its work alone, never rely on finalize() being called", but what else could be a solution?
    Of course, in my test app I can add the B.getIt().destroy();
    but in "real life" things are hidden like in main() above, and an end user of class A can easily forget (and won't understand why he should) call B.destroy()
    It's perhaps a general design question about native singletons and how to get rid of them as nicely as Java does it.
    Perhaps an explanation how it works in pure Java does help me already.
    Do you need more explanations to get the problem? Any feedback is welcome.
    Thanks!

    jschell wrote:
    eventually a test application does not terminate when exiting main(). Then a java thread or C thread is still running. Stop it from running.Thanks. So it's not related to static (native) objects but to some background (native) thread?
    Well, but my issue is how to get notice of the final cleanup.
    If I get the chance to run my native Destroy() method, all is fine.
    However, the sample code - which can be exercised without a native lib - shows that it's easy (or possible, at least) to never run into the finalize() method of a static object and any other object it references.
    Do I have to build my own reference counting?
    What would be the most robust mechanism for this task: How to get notice of an application ending?
    Sorry, now it's rather "New to Java" than JNI.
    But I rather don't crosspost, OK ? ;)

    i am stumped with this problem. i am developeing a app in eclipse, and there is a update feature that i do not want to run when i am running the app from eclipse. now when i was developing in visual studio there was a property which i could use to determine if the programming mode or not. i do not know how to do this in java. any hints or suggestion is appreciated.

  • How can i get a java executable (*.class) run on a web browser?

    I have created a simple appilcation in java and i would like to view it through a web browser.
    In order to do so, do i need to use an application server or just a web server?
    Can you come up with another solution to solve my problem(view the java application through the web)?
    Thank you in advance.

    If it HAS to be an application (perhaps something you have already written and now need to distribute), then Java Web Start may be an option.
    What is your user base? How many people will be using it? In what environment? How frequently will they use your app? I think you mentioned that it needs to read files. Is that on the user's machine?
    You may be able to create an applet version of your application using the same logic but subclassing some of the components to allow for remote login etc.

  • How do I get my iPhone apps to run on my Macbook Pro?

    I want to use on app to edit photos on my macbook. Having a giftcard, I decided to purchase this app on my macbook, (even though i had already had this app on my iPhone). I pressed 'Buy App' and it did take money out of my giftcard balance, but it didnt say that I had purchased the app. But I'm thinking, I must have, because it took the right ammount of money out of my account! But it didnt download, or appear in my downloads. So, then, I decided to sync my apps from my iPhone to my Macbook, and it did, so I can see the apps in my iTunes...but i cant use them on my Mac. Any ideas on what i should do? Ive tried everything I can think of doing. Thanks!

    If you purchasd an App from within iTunes, it is designed for an iDevice, not a Mac. Mac compatible Apps are available from the Mac App Store.

    Hi all,
    I am creating a java application for the Nokia 9210. The .sis file seems to install correctly on the device, and the application appears in the Extras menu. However, when I open the application, it says "Loading Java..." and then "Starting Java..." but then nothing else happens! I have tried an example application from Nokia as well, but still the same thing.
    Any help appreciated!
    thanks,

    U should have a .txt file along with the files u compiled into .sis one. Make sure that the line is :
