Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/10/os-x-mountain-lion-10-8-1-beta-released-for-dev-t esting-may-include-wi-fi-fix/
Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

  • HT204655 how long should the update and subsequent uploading take (to start)?

I am trying to upload my photos to photo (icloud) from my old macbook pro (2010) and it has been over 24 hours since i started and it is still showing 'updating...'?
How long should this take? I have tried the usual - restart photo; restart mac; turn off and on icloud upload.
the file is about 9000 iphone photos and 100 short videos.
    Thanks for any help.

How long is a piece of string?
Essentially it should not take too long (in my experience 20 minutes max from start to finish) although there are many, many factors that can affect the time taken to download and install the upgrade. Namely the reliability of your broadband connection, reliability of your router/firewall; reliability of the wireless connection (assuming you connect to your router wirelessly); downstream bandwidth supplied to your location by your ISP; the 'health' of your iMac; how much disk space for example? This is not an exhaustive list by any means.
If it's any help I would try the wired connection (ethernet) rather than wireless, I would log into your router's interface and double-check it's maintaining a good connection - if necessary reboot the router and try the upgrade again. Try and make sure there's only you using it at the time you do the upgrade.

  • How long should a ProRes 422 HQ render take?

I am trying to get a good guage on a time estimate for a ProRes 422 HQ export. Here are the specs...
    FCPX 10.0.8
MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB RAM 1333 MHz DDR3
    Running on Osx 10.7.5
My project is 71 minutes long... some titles, not graphics heavy.. Mainly RED RAW footage with some 5D mixed in.
SHARE option says a full 4K 422 PR HQ file would be about 381 GB.
About how long would you imagine the export taking? I am in the midst of rendering all right now in prep for final VIDEO ONLY export.
Final destination is to be BluRay via Compressor.
Secondary question.. with the above specified... Do I need to export in full 4K, or should I just go with 1080p, which it will ultiamtely be in... I want highest quaslity possible, of course... but if it is ultimately to be shown on 2K projection, is exporting the ProRes in 4K necessary?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Tom.
Can you explain what you mean by don't Compress twice?
If my original stuff is RED RAW 4K (for the most part), should I do the Master File export as ProRes 422 HQ at the maximum file size? And then open the saved file in Compressor? Or are you saying just send it to Compressor from FCPX without exporting?
This is my first time using Compressor, so learning curve in play here. Thanks.
I already exported my six WAV files for my surround sound to match to the yet to be exported ProRes

  • How long should this iTunes restore take?? Grrrr

Upgrading my iPhone 4 to the new software.
Took over an hour as it was "preparing to restore the software on this iPhone".
Finally, it changed, to read "iTunes is currently restoring the software on on this iPhone". This has been going on for almost TWO HOURS.
There's no status graphic to show how far it's gotten so I'm stumped.
Is this normal??? I need to use my phone and it's been out of commission for hours. Grrrr
    Thanks in advance.

No it would take at most 2 hour, I think your iPod hardisk is dying causing the delay and iTunes freeze.
Do a check on the iPod Hardisk using Disk Diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2

  • How long should the 10.8.5 update take to install?

Because it's a supplemental update, I figured the 10.8.5 update would install in a couple of minutes. It's been over 20 minutes since I clicked Restart and my iMac still shows Less than a minute to go and the progress bar has been in the same position for quite a while. Is this normal?

I also had the same issue with the 10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0.
2009 27" iMac (original hard drive recalled and replaced; 8 GB of 3rd party RAM added; no other notable additions).
I'll see if Apple has anything else to say about it.
I guess I'll just back up the drive and hope the Mavericks install works better...

I sent in the request for the free upgrade to MLion early this morning since I bought my MacBook Pro June 17th, 2012.  I was curious if I should have gotten a response already or not?
I actually moved a couple of days ago and I used my new address instead of the one I had when purchasing the MB.
    Thanks,
    Nic

It has been more than 24 hours since i applied, and i still have not received my codes yet. i called the customer support this morning, and now i have been informed to wait for another 72 hours.

  • How long should the upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.6.3 take?

Subject line asks my question. How long should I expect the upgrade to take, using the Snow Leopard DVD I just purchased from Apple Store?
    Thanks
    Paul

    20-30 minutes is the norm.

  • TS3212 How long should it take to download itunes

How long should it take to download itunes?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The download time depends on the Internet speed, but it shouldn't take more than a few minutes. If the download doesn't move, press Alt, Command and Esc keys, force close the installer or the App Store and download and install iTunes from the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1614

About all you can do is wait until it finishes or you get an error message.

  • HT4718 am trying to install OS X Lion for the first time. So far it has been downloading for about 2 hours. How long should it take?

    Can anyone help please?
Lion download to iMac has been running for about 2 hours and is still not halfway yet. How long should it take? should I cancel and start again?

1500Kbs is 1.5Mbs. That is Kilo bits per second. There are 8 bits to a byte so if you divide 1500 (or 1,500,000) by 8 you get 187500 bytes a second. Divide 3.5GBs (3,500,000,000), that capitol B is for Bytes, by that 187500 you get 18666.666 seconds. Which needs to be divided by 60 to get the minutes and then again by 60 to get the hours.
    5.1851xxx hours.
I use to have a 3Mbs DSL connection and it took me over 3 hours to download Lion. Now that I have a 19Mbs Cable connection it take about an hour to download and install.
So wait it will happen eventually. If you cancel and start again your are still going to wait 5+ hours.

  • Downloaded and installed os x yosemite and now mac book pro will not restart? How long should this take? Is there something wrong? Please helpthanks in advance

MAc book pro. I have downloaded and installed os x yosemite now mac book pro will not start? How long should it take? Is there something wrong?

The 2 computers here took about 45 minutes to an hour each.
The best thing to do is give it more time. If it gets too ridiculous, shutdown using the power button and then restart. Check  menu/About This Mac to see if it is installed.

  • I have been sent an email saying my podcast was accepted and will be up on iTunes in a few hours. That was 5 hours ago. How long should this process take?

I have been sent an email saying my podcast was accepted and will be up on iTunes in a few hours. That was 5 hours ago. How long should this process take?

There's no fixed time. If it's been accepted - presumably you've been given a URL? - it should appear reasonably soon. However it can dake some days before it turns up in the search results. The podcast image, if you have one, may also take some days to appear.
