It will cost you approximately US$219.00 to US$299.00 depending on the model.
Apple will replace the entire iPad; they don't repair.
If you have purchased AppleCare+ when you bought the device, you would be entitled to up to two replacements over a 2 year period for $49 each.
Note: Accidental damage is not covered by warranty

There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". It is also possible to purchase parts and find instructions on doing a repair yourself, though it's not particularly easy. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform a repair yourself, all further support from Apple will be void.

My iPad dropped on concrete and I'm going back home to toronto next week :(. I plan on buying a MacBook and I guess now replacing my iPad mini first generation. I'm still under warranty for my iPad mini and the warranty expires November 16tth 2014. I don't care about the fee cause I will pay it, but because it is under a one year warranty with no apple care, how much can I expect to pay? The site lists $219 but that's for out of warranty, which my product is not. Will I get a new iPad mini first generation or will they give me the retina one? Or will they completely replace my iPad screen in 3-5 business days? How does this work..thanks.

Apple will not replace the screen, they will replace the whole device with exactly the same model. It is refurbished and at a minimum includes a new battery, possibly a new screen and rear shell. In the US, I believe the replacement cost is $249, but may vary depending on your model's capacity and whether it has 3G or not.

It got damaged, probably when it fell off the couch. I know, it's my own fault. My warranty ran out anyway. All I need to know is a ballpark price for repairing or fixing the screen. It's internal, looks like it cracked or something.
Since my warranty ran out and I'm not that rich, I need to know if I'm better off finding a cheap Windows computer to use instead, because from some quick Google research I did, it looks like the screen repair is about as much as an entire new base laptop. (Why I don't know, but I guess they have to make their money somehow.) I don't think I could do any repairs myself, I wouldn't trust myself to that.
