Place the iPod in a sealed container with a desiccant for a week. Uncooked rice works. Change the desiccant every day or so for a week.

If you want to save money and your iMac isn't covered by the warranty, you can replace it yourself using the iFixit steps. I have a 48 month old mac pro. I use the optical drive quite a bit for listening or downloading music from my cd's. There is now a loud mechanical noise coming from it , and it is now very choosy about what cd's it wants to play. It is also getting very difficult to eject without having to restart it several times as well as pressing subsequent buttons.
        I have read several discussions on these pages and have gone through several elimmination processes . Including cleaning discs.
          Now i fear that there is no option but to replace the optical drive.
       How much am looking at spending and although its not a perfect remedy , is it cheaper to buy an external drive as much as that would pain me.

It will vary from area to area, there is no world wide rate. You should visit your local Apple Store to ask, you can also have an AASP do it, sometimes they can be less expensive. Either way make a list of potential vendors and (for those oldies out there) let your fingers do the walking. To locate either use the Apple Online Service Assistant.

I just bought my first Mac computer ever and I'm loving it -- and the battery life is phenomenal. I'm just worried that in a year it'll be half of what it is now which would not be unlike any other non-Mac laptop, but I really like the battery life this Mac gives.
So I'm wondering, at that point, how much would it cost to have the battery replaced? Does AppleCare include a battery replacement? I know that it's not exactly something I want to replace myself, so how much would it cost to have the Apple Store replace it, if not?

I suggest you take it the Apple Store and allow them to look at it. The may be much more damage then you are able to see.
