How to add chapter markers to every clip in a timeline?

Is it possible to add chapter markers to every clip in a timeline without going 1 by 1?  I have over 1,000 clips in the timeline and I need to add a chapter marker for every clip.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not. I've been using Compound clips, and I wanted chapter markers at the start of each compound clip, with the text in the marker set to the name of the compound clip.
I developed a keystroke workflow to do this, then used an application called "Keyboard Maestro" to record the keystrokes and reply them each time I press a hotkey. I had to add some timing delays, but once I did, it works great. All I have to do is press the hotkey, and it moves to the start of the next clip and adds the chapter marker. I even created another keystroke that does this 10 times in a row, so I only had to press it once for each 10 clips (because of timing issues, you can't just press the hotkey 10 times quickly).
If you're interested in more details, I can supply them, but I won't bother unless this sounds like something that might help you.

  • How to add chapter markers in GarageBand

I have never added chapter markers in GarageBand, and I assume that most other iMovie users had not either. Here is a little walkthrough I wrote up after going through the process.

    Barbara,
I agree with WT that the user manual is worth taking a look at. Here is a link to the marker editing process – which takes place in the Preview window of Compressor.
If you continue to encounter problems, provide us with additional details about your project and what issues you've encountered.
    Good luck.

  • HOW TO ADD CHAPTER MARKERS FOR IDVD

how do you add chapter markers for iDVD import?

FCP does not have that capability. You can add chapter markers in Compressor, but that would be another recompression step, and you can dd them in GarageBand. Perhaps it might be best to add them in iDVD. Can you add them in iDVD?
It would be an excellent feature request to have them in FCP, though I'm not sure how they would implement it.

  • How to add chapter markers for each file in a folder?

    Hello,
I have several image folders with up to 700 images per. I would like to drag & drop them into the timeline but I want to be able to use the chapter/arrow button on the DVD player remote to scroll through them.....like a videoscrapbook, per se.
Is there a setting that will allow me to drop them into the time line and automatically generate a chapter marker for each image, that will be read on export to DVDSP? Surely, there is something like this built in that I just have not yet found; I cannot believe the only alternative is to manually add 700 chapter markers per folder. And do they always go into the timeline in alphabetical order? Can that be prevented or altered?
Also, doesn't it seem strange there is no single-button option (I'm presuming here, since I have not found one) for adding a chapter marker; the '~' button adds a generic marker but you must 'edit' it and click 'chapter marker' - very time-consuming --- or am I missing something here, too? If so please enlighten me! I've experimented a lot but no luck.
    Many thanks!
    jf

I thought there was a folder size limitation on DVDSP - these folders have digital family photos on them and they are jam-packed; 600, 700, whatever. And there are several of them. I guess I thought putting them in FCP was the only way to avoid the limitation - if there is one.
I'll try putting them straight into DVDSP and see what happens. Thanks!

  • Need Help! How to add Chapter Markers to Mix for CD?

Help would be appreciated! So I created several mixes and I'm wondering how I can export them on one track to a CD with markers in it too skip through the song? So far all I can think of is adding chapter markers in podcast, but idk if that would export to a CD. Help Please!!!

I take it you want to export to a CD - CDs don't have chapter markers, just separate tracks, and that's what happens if you burn a CD straight from GB.
If you want an audio file with chapter markers, make sure you export your podcast as an AAC file. That will create an "enhanced" podcast with chapter markers, but if you burn that onto a CD, it won't play in an ordinary CD player.

  • How to add chapter markers

How do I do this in DVDsp 3.0? It says right in the manual that I can do this, so I didn't bother adding them in FCP, because they are always at the start/end of clips. The manual says that you can do it in DVDsp, and then goes on to describe how to do it in other applications.
Thanks for your help... it must be right in front of me somewhere!!

I have stumbled on a partial answer - by right-clicking above the time ruler you can add a marker. Does anyone know how to precisely align these to the ends of clips? There doesn't seem to be any "snap to" feature here. Also, it doesn't allow me to move a video clip to the right in the timeline to see where the marker is exactly. I find the manual seems to hide the most needed answers in totally obscure places....!!

  • How do you add chapter markers to your podcast?

Does anyone know how to add chapter markers to a podcast so that listeners can skip to the section they are interested in? And how to change the artwork as the chapters change?

In Garageband 3 - you can build the enhanced podcast right in the Garageband - No more need for Chapter Tool Me.
If you are looking to add chapters to a MP3 file with a Mac or PC, the only thing that comes close is a service called Audio Merge.
    http://www.audiomerge.com/
but this is only if the person is listening from a Web Browser.
But at least it is a way to do something now if you are on a Windows machine.
There are also some other neat features - You can add Polls, Comment Feedback. This works for Audio and Video.

  • How do I add a transition between every clip in Premiere Elements 11?

    Greetings -
Folks, I'm looking for a feature that even the cheesy old Windows Movie Maker used to have.  I'm trying to figure out how to get Premiere Elements 11 to add a transition between every clip via some shortcut/quick means.  I find it obnoxious and inefficient that I need to manually drag a transition between every clip.  If I import 200 short clips that I took with my point and shoot camera, it'll take me over an hour alone just to put the transitions in place.
Is there any way to select a transition and have Premiere Elements add it between every clip?  I've stumbled on the fact that you can click a transition and make it the "Default" but have not been able to figure out what that does for me.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

I think trying  Edit > Preferences > General > Video Default Transition Duration will fix it.  Mine came with 30 frames set at installation.

  • What Software Do I need to add Chapter Markers

I've got a 55 min QuickTime movie file that I'd like to simply add Chapter Makers as well as setup a Chapter Menu selection at that beginning.
Also, I'd like to be able to render this file to a format that will playback on any DVD player.
To be able to edit/sweeten the audio and/or video is not a priority....I'd just need to add chapters so to divide up this one-long-movie into...well...chapters.
What software do I need that will do this?
    Thanks.
    Mac 17" MacBook Pro
    Mac OSX 10.4.10
Processor: 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM

You can add chapter markers using Quicktime Pro if you don't need to edit the movie.
You can find detailed instructions in the Apple document Chapter Tracks.
These instructions teach how to add a chapter track, containing your chapter titles and timecodes, to an existing quicktime movie without using iMovie or FCE or other editing software. No codec, compression, or conversion is applied to your video and audio, which are left alone. Only a new text track with adequate formatting is added.
    A few additional notes:
    - you need Quicktime Pro (30$)
    - you must correct a couple of points in the Apple instructions:
    a. in step 3. you have first to +enable the text track+ in the Property Window of the movie, and then you can use the Text to Text option in the Export Menu (otherwise no Text to Text option is made available).
    b. step 10 must be corrected as follow: +"Open Show Movie Properties from the Window menu, choose the *Video Track* ( not: new text track). Choose Other Settings then choose your Text track in the Chapters popup"+

  • For what reasons would you not be able to add chapter markers to a project?

New to this...I will try to give you the detail you need to answer without giving you a long story. I am actually asking this question because I have a video production company working on my wedding video..they are using iDVD to burn but I am not sure if they are using iMovie to compose or some other software. Anyways, this is actually the second time around with my video. They produced it 18 months ago and it looked beautiful! The only problem was that we realized 10 months later that there was an audio problem with the wedding ceremony. In the meantime, the person who originally worked on the project left with the software and the equipment. So, they had to start over and have been working on the redo since February and I think I am the iDVD "test rat". They are telling me now that it is not possible to add chapter markers to the project in iDVD. And this is part of the e-mail they sent me with a supposed explanation:
+I took your corrected DVD to the Apple Store and the training expert explained to me that this program only shows each chapter at a time and the program will automatically go back to the menu after each chapter+.
From what I have been reading on the discussion boards, the only reason that adding chapter markers would not be possible is that they are using iDVD '08 (since they purchased the software in February, I don't think this is possible) or that they did not use the original wedding tape to create the new DVD project..they used the already broken down video segments from the 1st DVD and just put them in menu folders??? Any help or explanation would be GREATLY appreciated! If there is any additional information you might need, I will do my best to provide it.
    THANKS!!!

    Hi cooperjb,
Welcome to apple discussions. iDvd is consumer authoring software. DVDSP on the other hand is part of FCS 2 / apple's top of the line / professional DVD authoring software. There are some significant (huge) differences between the two apps which I won't go into great details here since I could likely fill a text book on this very subject. Instead you can search this forum/s for a few prior posts as well as apple's knowledge base (KB) for further details on exactly why pros prefer to use Apple's FCS 2 as opposed to the i-Apps.
As much as one may want iDvd to act and perform exactly like Professional Software, It is not. It's intended for consumers (and prosumers).
On a less serious note, this one's always good for a laugh:

  • IDVD will not allow me to add chapter markers

When I made my iPhotos into an iMovie and then sent it via Media Browser to iDVD, it will not allow me to add chapter markers and there are no buttons visible for play movie or scene selection. I am using iDVD 7.0.3.

After you place chapter markers within iMovie, you don't want to use the "Share to iDVD" option... Instead, click on the Share to QT (or media browser) option. Next, within iDVD, insert your movie file from the media browser section of iDVD, and all your chapters would be recognized correctly by iDVD. When you directly share to iDVD, it creates an auto-play movie, so you don't get to see the menu, until the movie plays completely.
Two bugs exist with iDVD: one, if you change your movie later, iDVD fails to update the chapter markers correctly. Second, you can no longer use your mouse to change the static images for the chapters (Another poster on this forum discovered a workaround for this using arrow keys instead - pretty ingenious find!)

  • Is there any way to add chapter markers running Mavericks? Is there a reason they have been stripped out the new OSX?

Depending on your choice of workflows, it appears you can still
    1) Add chapter marks manually with QT 7 Pro,
    2) Add chapter markers graphically using GarageBand,
    3) Use a video editor to set chapter markers graphically,
    4) Use a DVD conversion/burning app to set specific or add equi-interval chapter markers, or
    5) Use a media/device player that adds playback only chapter makers when no chapter track is embedded within the file.
What kind of chapter markers are you referring to here? Mine are not "stripped out" during normal use but can be automatically removed during various conversion workflows.

  • Possible To Add Chapter Markers To iDVD Slide Shows?

Is it possible to add chapter markers to iDVD slideshows, or is that only possible in movies?
I have a slideshow prepared with over 300 photos, and would really like to be able to create chapter markers [starting points] so a viewer doesn't have to click through so many photos to find a particular photo. This probably cannot be done, but I didn't want to proceed with my project, IF it is a possibility, and I am just missing some quick way to do this.

The only way to create chapters in a slideshow is to create the slideshow as a movie in iPhoto or iMovie. This way you can create Chapter markers that will show up in menus.
Each slide in an iDVD created slideshow is actually a different Chapter - that's why some set-top DVD players drop the audio on slide changes and why each slideshow can only have 99 slides.

Technically, to make the function keys work you don't need to change the second box to dash. I don't know why I gave that advice, but it isn't necessary. I guess I said that simply because that's what I have it set to.
The reason there are two boxes is so that you can set Exposé to using both the function keys and the mouse. For example, if I have +All Windows+ set to F9 and Secondary Mouse Button, then it will show all open windows if I click F9 or right-click. That is why you actually don't need to have the second boxes for any of these set to dashes. You could set them to your mouse buttons, or if you wanted you could set the first box of any of these to any function key, as long as it isn't set to the same one as the key you want to use for your shortcuts within FCE.
I hope this made sense, I realize that I might not have explained it very clearly.
