How to attach a second monitor

I would like to attach a second monitor to my TouchSmart Envy 23 PC.  It will not work with a HDMI Cable.  Can anyone please help me with how to do it.

Hi, The HDMI port on your machine is an IN port, you can't attache a monitor to it. If you wish to connect to a second computer, please try      http://www.startech.com/AV/USB-Video-Adapters/ Regards.

  • Can I attach a second monitor to a TouchSmart 320-1030?

Can I attach a second monitor to a TouchSmart 320-1030? It has only USB i/o ports. How do I do it? Will the software support it if I can find the right hardware? Can I use an older VHS monitor with some sort of a USB/VHS conversion gadget?

These units do not have any video out capability, you will need a USB to VGA/HDMI/DVI adapter from a 3rd party, there's no such thing as a "VHS monitor" did you mean VGA? if so then the statement above applies, as it does for all the other 9 million threads on this same subject :-)

Here are the specs for your HP ENVY TouchSmart 23se-d494 All-in-One Desktop Computer. Based the specs, the HDMI port on the side of your computer is an INPUT only. This model doesn't have a video output of any kind.
1 - Controls           2 - HDMI In port (model dependent)
You will need to purchase and use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 (or any of the many other adapters on the market) to connect an external display to your computer. I personally use and recommend the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39.

  • How to connect a second monitor/TV to HP ENVY Beats All-In-One

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is even possible to connect a second monitor to the HP ENVY Beats All-In-One Desktop PC, because I'm trying to connect my TV as the second monitor through HDMI and I've tried everything that I could, but have come up empty handed?

    Hi,
What is the model/product of your AIO machine ? I many cases, you can't use HDMI port to connect to a TV because it is HDMI IN port. You need USB - HDMI converter/adapter to connect to a TV (or monitor).

  • IMAC 27 - attached a second monitor - mouse tracking problem

After attaching a 19 inch lcd via the mini display port and a dvi adapter my mouse tracking has gone bad, not just from one screen to the other even just on the main screen if you move the mouse around it jumps several inches and is very inaccurate. problem goes away when the second mointor is unpluged.
    Can anyone help?
    Stephen

I'll add to the chorus: I have the 27" iMac, and I get the same mouse jumpiness when I connect my 24" Acer P244W display via the Mini DisplayPort-DVI adapter. Oddly enough, the mouse jumpiness is more pronounced when I use my old wired MS Intellimouse Optical than when I use the included Magic Mouse. I've confirmed with another Mac (and with this Mac minus the second display) that the wired mouse is functioning normally.
Basically, given slow, constant mouse movement, the cursor will hiccough for about a tenth of a second once every 1.0 seconds, like clockwork. Given more normal use, the cursor will continue to hiccough every second and will also occasionally jump to a completely unrelated location on the screen. (The wired mouse was the worse off here, jumping unpredictably several times a minute.)
I've unplugged the secondary display for now, but I kinda sorta really need it for Flash and video work. Apple, help!

  • HT3913 how do i add a second monitor to a late 2009 iMac 27"

I would like to know how to add a second monitor to my late 2009 iMac 27". Has anyone already performed this and if so how?

Depends on the monitor, many support more than one connection.
Also note that: VGA is analog, DVI is digital and HDMI is full HDMI technology.
For a VGA supported monitor, you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor and a VGA cable.
For a DVI supported monitor under 24", you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor and a DVI cable.
For a DVI supported monitor over 24" you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
For a HDMI supported monitor, you will need a > Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a HDMI cable.

  • No audio when with second monitor attached and using Extend, Duplicate,or Second Screen Only modes

When I attached a second monitor via HDMI cable and try to use Duplicate, Extend, or Second Screen only display modes, I can get the video to display and run but I get no audio unless I set the notebook display settings to P/C Only mode.  I really want to use the second screen for PowerPoint/Presenter View and play a embedded video (along with the sound).  Even if I try to play a YouTube video I can only get audio when in P/C Screen Only mode.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • How to use a secondary monitor in Portrait mode

Finally discovered how to do this.  Here is how to use a second monitor in portrait mode:
Open System Preferences from your iMac dock.
Click Displays - Click Arrangement - Click Gather Windows - the secondary monitor dialog box opens.
Click Rotation - Click 90 degrees rotation for PORTRAIT MODE.
Click CONFIRM on the secondary monitor to keep Portrait mode.
    Select the desired resolution. I chose 1200 x 1920.
You'll see a dialog box that says, "About to change the display mode."
    Click OKAY.
Click Confirm. (If it appears. For some resolutions, I did not have to click confirm, most likely because the monitor supports those resolutions.)
Then resize the windows of the software you're using.
    Done!

I too got the same. Both monitors went portrait. Then I unchecked the 'Mirror Display' option in the Arrangment tab of iMac display and voila. Got what I wanted.

  • Connecting a second monitor to a iMac27

I have a problem with my new iMac27 displaying through a second monitor.
The second display monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 225BW.
I 'm using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter cable out of the iMac and connecting to the second display via an HDMI cable to a DVI-HDMI adaptor.
When I go into Monitor Settings it shows the second monitor okay but there is no display showing on the Samsung monitor.
To test the cables and setup I connected the same cable setup into my MacAir laptop and the display shows up okay on the second monitor confirming there is nothing wrong with the connectors.
    Can anyone kindly help?

for me this almost sounds like it could be a damaged mini display port on your imac. normally attaching a second monitor is just plug&play. and since you say OS X is correctly recognizing the display, this could be MDP/graphic card issue. is the imac still under warranty? if so, you might wanna call the apple support and if they know nothing then you will probably have to give your imac into repair

  • Satellite 1130-Z31: Cannot get 1600x900 on second monitor

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1130-Z31 (old one, but still works well).
Now i have attached a second monitor with a native resolution of 1600x900 pixels.
I have set the resolution of the second monitor to 1600x900, this is accepted.
However, the image on the second monitor looks ugly, and the external monitors OSD says it gets 1440x900 pixel signals from the laptop.
It seems that the Toshiba sends an image with a lower resolution than set.
I have installed the latest graphics driver - no change.
Or could this be a problem with a poor quality VGA cable or so?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Turtle

    Hi
Unfortunately I was not able to find info which resolutions are supported for external displays but if you cannot get 1600x900 pixels that mean that this resolution is not supported by graphic card.
Which video port do you use? VGA 15 pin port maybe?
