How to backup Bridge CS5?

Hi there,
I would like to make a copy of the Bridge keywords and theirs relations with the photos to restore the same environment after new system installation. Would be somebody so kind to tell me what files/directories should I backup? Or maybe there is any dedicated functionality/tool inculded in Bridge CS5?

When you open a folder it will bring up the keywords on pictures within the folder.  If the keyword is not on your current list it will be italiziced.  This means it is temporarily on the list.  To make permanent right click and choose "make persistant".
You would have to go through all your folders and do this.  There may be another way, but this is the direct way I am familiar with.
Hope this helps.

  • How to get Bridge CS5 to open in Phoshop CS5

I bought a new Windows 7 64bit computer, and set up my older Windows XP computer downstairs, to have two workstations.  I also bought an upgrade to CS5, which I wanted on both stations.  I put CS5 on the new computer, and it seemed to work.  I also put CS5 on the XP computer, and Adobe said I should take off CS4 and deactivate it on this platform, which I did.  But now in Bridge CS5 when I double click on a thumbnail, it opens it in Nero (a CD burning program), not in Photoshop.  In help, I looked at user questions about Bridge, and it seemed that at least one user about 6 months ago had a similar problem after he took off CS4,  I read the responses to his question.  One person said that it was file association problem that was lost when he took off CS4.  He suggested to go edit, preferences, etc., but when I tried to do that, but could not duplicate what he suggested.  ANY SUGGESTIONS???
What also worries me is this going to happen on the new computer if I take off CS4?

    Curt,
Sort of figured how to correct the situation, and did get jpegs to open.  A friend also suggested that I try to uninstall and reinstall, and then update.  Today I tried, and had a couple of things I didn't understand.  Scheduled a telephone call to Adobe.  Twenty minutes later got a call, punched in selection numbers for the help I wanted, and a machine told me that they would connect me with the person that could help me if I would hang on.  I did, but the call disconnected, and they never called back, and I didn't have the number to call.  A friend came over and he showed me how to down a program that I had to shut down before the program would uninstall.  After a few more set backs, I did get it done, and it seems to be working.
Again thank you for your help, and I know a few things I didn't know before.

  • How can I rename my pics in Bridge CS5?

How can I renams my pics in Bridge CS5?

Here's what is in the Bridge cs5 help pdf file.  (I was not able to find this same help info from clicking help in Bridge cs5).
    Batch rename files
You can rename files in a group, or batch. When you batch rename files, you can choose the same settings for all the selected files. For other batch-processing tasks, you can use scripts to run automated tasks.
1  Select the files that you want to rename.
2  Choose Tools > Batch Rename.
    3  Set the following options:
    Destination Folder
Place the renamed files in the same folder, move them to another folder, or place copies in another folder. If you choose to put the renamed files in a different folder, click Browse to select the folder.
    New Filenames
Choose elements from the menus and enter text as appropriate to create new filenames. Click the Plus button [+] or Minus button [-] to add or delete elements.
    •String Substitution
Allows you to change all or part of a filename to custom text. First, choose what you want to replace: Original Filename replaces the string from the original filename. Intermediate Filename replaces a string that is defined by preceding options in the New Filenames pop-up menus. Use Regular Expression allows you to use regular expressions to find strings based on patterns in filenames. Replace All replaces all substrings that match the pattern in the source string.
    Options
Select Preserve Current Filename In XMP Metadata to retain the original filename in the metadata. For Compatibility, select the operating systems with which you want renamed files to be compatible. The current operating system is selected by default, and cannot be deselected.
    Preview
One current and new filename appear in the Preview area at the bottom of the Batch Rename dialog box. To see how all selected files will be renamed, click the Preview button.
4  (Optional) Select a preset from the Presets menu to renaming with frequently used naming schemes. To save batch rename settings for reuse, click Save.

  • How to get Adobe Bridge CS5 to open an FLV file in another program?

    Hello Folks,
How do I get Adobe Bridge CS5 to open an FLV file in another program other than Flash CS5?
When I double click on an FLV video, it always opens Flash CS5.  I want to be able to use one of my other FLV player apps instead.
    Thanks

How do I get Adobe Bridge CS5 to open an FLV file in another program other
    than Flash CS5?
When I double click on an FLV video, it always opens Flash CS5.  I want to be
able to use one of my other FLV player apps instead.
For single use when having pointed the cursor on that file with right mouse
click choose open with and choose the wished application from the fly out
    menu.
For permanent use go to Bridge Preferences File Type Association section and
from the list find the .flv file extension. In this line you can select the
little triangle next to Adobe flash and from the list select the one you
prefer, now the all open in this chosen app.

  • How to restore file associations in Bridge CS5?

    Hi
Some time ago I somehow lost file associations in Adobe Bridge CS5. Now when I doubleclick a RAW file (Canon .CR2 file) I get Firefox, when I doubleclick a JPG I get FastStone and when I doubleclick a PSD file nothing happens at all. Also Photoshop is not in the options I get by right-clicking photos and choosing "Open with...".
I have tried [ Edit -> Preferences... -> File Type Associations -> Reset to Default Associations ] , but that didn't help.
Also when I look in the File Type Association dialog, my file types are set to "Explorer Settings", and Photoshop is not among the other options. I don't know how this uses to be (if associations are defined in Bridge or it uses Explorer/Windows settings?), but how do I easily recreate original setup from when I installed Photoshop?

    Hi Neil
Thanks for the answer. I'm aware I can manually setup associations one-by-one for all file types I need, but just hoped there was some easier way. I mean there's a lot of file types associated in either windows/explorer or directly in Bridge. Some that I might not know I need tomorrow.  Two things I have found out since I asked the question:
    1) The problem is probably caused by uninstalling my old CS4 after I had installed CS5. It looks like somebody experienced a similar problem by uninstalling CS3 after the installation of CS4: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1899159#1899159. So apparently a bug Adobe hasn't fixed even though it was in previous version too!? :-( I think it is only natural to keep your old version installed for some time when installing an upgrade. Just to make sure the new version works well before you uninstall the previous (And I have previous had the problem that a new version of Photoshop had a habit of freezing on my PC - or some other error I don't remember -  until Adobe released an update. So there's a reason for my behavior).
    2) I have installed a second copy of CS5 now on my secondary portable PC, and are using this to make a similar setup regarding file associations in windows/explorer and Bridge. All associations for Photoshop was lost on my primary PC, and God... there's a lot of file associations to setup again... May I recommend Adobe (if reading this) to fix this bug and/or make a script to automatically recover all associations in case of loss!

  • After updating Macbook to Yosemite, Adobe Bridge CS5.1 will not batch rename .jpgs without corrupting the files. How can I fix this?

I have a student who when he tries to batch rename his .jpgs in Adobe Bridge CS5.1, the files will become corrupted and will not be able to open them. The extension is off. How can I correct this for him?

    Wait, I just caught this:

Are you referring to the 3-letter ".jpg" extension being deleted?  You can't do that, of course!  If that is still the case, you'll have to add it manually to each JPEG file.

  • How do I get back PHOTOSHOP TOOLS in Bridge CS5.1?

I used the PHOTOSHOP option under TOOLS in Bridge CS5 all the time.  I upgraded my InDesign to CS5.5 and with it I was automatically upgraded to Bridge CS5.1 but now ther is no longer a PHOTOSHOP option under TOOLS.  When I try to open the older Bridge CS5, it automatically opens CS5.1.  How can I get back the PHOTOSHOP option under TOOLS in Bridge CS5.1?
Thanks for any information you might provide.

How can I get back the PHOTOSHOP option under TOOLS in Bridge CS5.1?
It seems related to the different versions and their start up scripts. First check Bridge Preferences Start Up Scripts has a PS script showing and see if the checkmark in front is checked. If not you have to copy the old script in the new location. Not sure if this works and without knowing if you have a Mac or Windows. For a Mac there is library at root level (so not in the user account).
Here is the path: HD/Library/ Application Support/ Adobe / Start Up scripts. You probably have two folders, one called CS5 and one called CS5.5. Try to copy (copy, not move) the Photoshop script to the CS5.5 folder and try if that works. Theoretically Bridge 4.1 (that comes with CS5.5 - yes it is a bit confusing) should recognize the scripts. And basically Bridge 4 (CS5) and Bridge 4.1 (CS5.5) are the same. But If you set Bridge 4.0 it will probably not recognize the new InDesign start up scripts.

  • Why do thumbnails in Bridge CS5 open in CS3? How to fix?

I have both CS3 and CS5 installed on new computer running under Windows 7. I do not want to uninstall CS3 until I fully understand CS5. The problem: When I click thumbnail image in Bridge CS5, the image appears in CS3. I have gone to 'preferences' and tried to figure out how to fix this problem; also looked via windows 7 control panel at default settings;  also tried to follow previous discussion on similar problem -- all without success. Help will be much appreciated.

CS5 and CS3 to both independant programs and should not interfere with each other.  I would recommend you do not uninstall CS3 as that frequently causes massive file association problems.  However, only one program can be active at the same time.
CS3 and CS5 use sepearte cache, so there is no cross association.  What you are probably seeing is incorrect file association.
While in CS5 go to edit/pref/file type associations and see what the default is set to.  You want it to be CS5.  Might click on the radio button at bottom to reset all if that is the problem.

  • How to add Web Gallery in Bridge CS5

    Hi there,
I am creating a photo album with web gallery in Bridge CS5. I find out that Is it possible to enable vertical scroll in to the portrait pictures? Usually portrait pictures  are too small when they are diminish to the screen. Here is an example of an portrait with vertical scroll, and I think they work better that way. Or what do you think?
Is it possible to find third party template to Bridge CS5 web gallery software that has scrollable slide area? Or is it possible to make couple of modifications to the basic templates?
    Thanks in advance.
P.s. Here's one tutorial how to make web galleries with PS CS 5 Bridge.

  • How to add a Description Column in the Content Panel (Bridge CS5)

    Hi,
Is it possible to add a Description Column in the Content Panel. If so, how?
I'm talking about the Description from the IPTC Core data and I'm using Bridge CS5.
    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

This is the screenshot of the Metadata Workspace with the Content Panel (not Metadata Panel). As you can see it shows Name, Label, Keywords etc. but it's not possible to show Description in that list as a column.
I still agree that it would be a big bonus if you could alter this workspace with description field (even with more lines etc) but what Curt shows you might be an alternative. I couldn't help noticing that you have not created your own custom workspaces.
Try and play with this. You have the option to divide the window in 3 columns max but you can create different panels as a row in 1 column.
Grabbing a tab and move it to a new location until a single blue line appears (between the borders, a bit tricky). A vertical blue line means as a column and a horizontal line means a row. A surrounding blue line means same panel but adding as a tab. You can rearrange the tabs by dragging to left or right. under the menu window you can select which panels are visible or use right mouse click menu on top of a panel to choose.
Sadly enough only 3 columns and only one panel of it's kind per workspace, but you can resize the panels also to your own workflow needs.
In Bridge preferences you can change the colors for background in the general tab and in the metadata tab you can select what info to view in certain sections. Personally I have set my IPTC to view only description, keywords, date created and a few other subjects.
That is the nice thing about Bridge, creating custom workspaces, save them and being able to recreate them without problems :-)
I attach some screenshot of my daily workflow (with the luxury of having a 30' screen) but there are plenty of other options possible, don't forget to name and save your workspace.

  • After CS6beta install, how to I tell CS5 bridge to open images in Photoshop CS5?

I am not ready to do all of my work in CS6 now, I am just trying to learn the interface.  But now I cannot opening anything through bridge or windows explorer using Photoshop CS5 at all.  The only way that I can open any image file in CS5 is to do it directly from Photoshop in the file open menu.  How can I set Bridge CS5 to at least have Photoshop CS5 as an option, if not the default?

Open Photoshop CS5, and launch Bridge from there (Ctrl Alt o) That will open Bridge CS5, and load images into Photoshop CS5.

  • How do I get CS5 Bridge/Photoshp to handle RAW files from my D800E?

How do I get CS5 Bridge/Photoshop to handle RAW files from my D~800E?

There are many who would say, based only on empiric data (boo) and not opinion (yay), that the most accurate raw conversions would be obtained using the Nikon software and not secondary processors like the Adobe converter. The DNG process makes irreversible changes to the raw data which may or may not matter but the DNG is not the same as the original raw file.
You can do the experiment yourself, for FREE, and compare different methods of raw conversion. You may be surprised at what you see. You have to be because different converters tune to different image characteristics. Don't be taken in about claims Adobe makes for its convertor without proving them to yourself. Adobe has made deliberate pre-set choices for its converter and they may not be the best for you. Or they may be, as we have all become so used to what Adobe chooses we think we chose it ourselves.
If I were able to afford, and had the energy to lug around a D800e, I might not want to compromise the image quality I just shelled out such massive bucks to obtain using the Adobe converter without proving that was the best option for me, but I don't do it for a living. Also, if you can shell out for a D800e and are enamored of the Adobe Converter realize it only costs $10/month for a CC subscription, possibly tax deductible, and you can still retain your older version of PS. The CC version of PS allows use of the ACR as a filter layer, if you are fond of the converter tools (which are much improved in the latest version).

How  can I see the previews of my D610 in bridge cs5 and how can I open them in my CC photoshop?

Nah. Raw support is version specific and that extends to Bridge as well. Older versions simply won't handle new cameras. If this is important to you, you will have to use Bridge CC.
