How to burn a dvd, not data cd

I can't burn dvd's! They come out as data cd. Help!

Going direct to iDVD works if your source event is DV or AIC. If you start with something else you need to use the Media Browser. Many people feel that the Media Browser h.264 copies give better results than DV directly, but you should test this for yourself and see what works for you.
For example, if you are doing a slide show from iPhoto jpegs, you will not have the option of going directly to iDVD.
There is no particular advantage in sending DV or AIC directly to iDVD, because iMovie must render the movie anyway. There is no such thing in iMovie as "passing through" DV without rendering it.

  • HT1479 I would like to know how to burn a dvd in such a way that each image can be skipped over by pressing the skip button.

I would like to know how to burn a dvd in such a way that each image can be skipped over by pressing the skip button? If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

Here's how top get a slideshow that will let the viewer manually control the forward and backward movement of the slides with the forward and back buttons on the DVD remote.
1 - put the images you want to use in an iPhoto album.
2 - launch iDVD, select a theme and add a slideshow using the "+" button at the bottom:
3 - click on the Media button at the lower right hand corner of the window and then click on the Photos button.
4 - locate the iPhoto album containing your photos and drag it into the left hand pane:
5 - select Side Duration to Manual.
In order to get the maximum manual control of the slides you cannot have add any music to the slideshow.  If you do add music the slideshow will continue you advance unless you pause the slideshow and/or use the advance/back buttons and then pause.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to burn on DVD

I have Avi file and .srt file for subtitles how to burn on DVD to watch on desktop player ?
I used ffmpegX but maybe doing something wrong, I just dropped avi file in window and just under filters add subtitles no other things done, I encoded but no subtitles
    Any help ?
    Thanks

Insert a blank disc into the optical drive.  choose Open Finder from the pop-up menu. The disc appears on your desktop.
Double-click the disc to open then drag the files and folders you want to burn to the window.
Arrange and rename the files if needed.
Choose File > Burn and follow the instructions.

  • How to burn a dvd created in iMovie with OS Maverics - why is it in MP4 format and not .MOV?

I have created a movie in iMovie, shared it and put it in a burn folder on my desktop, then tried to burn it. It seemed to work (the hard disc was spinning and computer told me when it was finished) but when i tried to play it on my Macbook Pro (which is where I created it) it won't play. It is in MP4 format. iMovie used to create movies in .Mov format. Is this the reason it won't play and what can i do about it?

    Hi
    A. making a .mp4 file then putting it onto a DVD (via Finder/DeskTop) results in a DATA-DVD - which can not be played by any (to my knowledge) Standard DVD-Player.
But if inserted into a window-PC and using VLC-player - I GUESS that it will play just fine.
    B. To be played in a Standard DVD-Player You need to do a VIDEO-DVD and to do this You need a DVD-Authoring program (it is a MUST)
    C. Things that use to go wrong are:
    - Using cheap brands of DVD discs as Memorex, NoName etc - I only use Verbatim
    - Using DVD+/-RW - usually do not work, DVD+R usually works BUT not on older DVD-players - I only use DVD-R
    - BURN SPEED - as faster as more BURN ERRORS (WORSE) - in iDVD - Best IS NOT BEST AT ALL - I never go faster than x4 - most often I use x2
    Reg Authoring programs:
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Free solutions:
Burn - a free alternative from Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
Gives a fairly good resulting Video-DVD
Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
(very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)

  • HOW to Burning A dvd with 5.1 audio AND WATCH IT AT HOME ?

I have had I nightmare with the compressor application trying to burn 5.1 audio and the film together had no luck . I wonder what does a guy do to listen to 5.1 files in his home cinema set up ? I know that I can bounce the 5.1 audio into the film in logic but can I burn a dvd with the 5.1 audio and film and take it home and listen to what I have done in a non studio environment ?
Would much appreciate some help on this cause frustration is not the word to discribe me going nuts for like 5 hours trying to figure out how that non musical program works .
    Thanks for any feedback ...

    Ah, got it.
Since you have Compressor I would guess you also have DVD Studio Pro. Anyway a quick movie showing how to do it. Drag the m2v and audio into the asset bin (you will see it in the lower left of the movie) then it goes through the steps. Note the audio and video streams are not the same length, I just threw it together quickly to show you. Of course menus can be fanbcier and all the rest and there may be some gotchas in the details, but it will generally work. Also make sure to set a First Play for the disc. Usually it is good to have a small couple seconds of black frames or warning on a track before jumping off to the next thing, and you can set the Track to be first play in this case if you like. try to use good media (DVD-R/+R) brands like Taiyo Yuden, cheaper media can cause issues.

Well there are alot of things to take into consideration, but that should give you a good jump start

  • How to burn a dvd from Bridge, through the Output Module to a DVD?

How do I burn a dvd pdf slideshow?  I have CC, ACR, Bridge and I have loaded the Output Module.  I know how to create the slideshow in Bridge.  How do I get from Bridge through the Output Module to the DVD?

Copying the pdf to DVD is an OS function, not something to do from Bridge.  When you save the pdf you select a location where to save it (desktop or folder of your choice).  To copy that saved pdf file to DVD you use a DVD writing program on your system or OS copy function (such as windows explorer if on windows) to copy from the location where you saved the pdf to the DVD drive on your system.

  • Help, I don't know how to burn a DVD!

    Hello,
Not sure where to post this question but I need help with the DVD player part of my computer. It isn't iDVD I'm talking about either.
Okay so I own this collection of Billy Blanks DVD's and so I want to burn one of them onto a blank disc. I insert the original Billy Blanks into the drive. Then DVD player pops up on the bottom. I first hit New Burn Folder under File (I think) then I label it Billy Blanks. I then hit Burn Disc under the same spot (or just Burn when the box pops up) and then it says insert blank disc. So I put the blank disc in and the box that says burn disc stays up and the cancel button blinks. Then nothing happens at all. The new burn folder is always empty. The one time I did manage to get it burn the disc icon showed up in the burn folder but when I try to open it, it says the original can't be found.
How do I burn a DVD? What am I doing wrong here? I just don't get it. I hope this question makes sense.

You need Final Cut Studio to burn 5.1 on mac. (DVD Studio Pro, to be specific)
Yes, IMO Apple really sells Logic users short on 5.1. Sure you can author, but no delivery platform unless you pony up $$$ for FCS.

  • Burn to dvd not working

I am new to Final Cut Pro. I created a project, then burned it to a dvd with no problem. I later edited the project, then tried to burn that to a dvd and it will not burn.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. With the project selected, I insert the DVD and wait for Finder to recognize it. I then go to Share>Burn DVD. I used the default settings both times as far as I know. There has to be a setting or something that I am missing. I am using a new DVD with nothing on it, not the same one as the first time.

Like I mentioned earlier, I am waiting for the DVD to be recognized in Finder. It did allow me to export it, then burn it to a dvd in finder. I think it is in .mov format though. Is that ok? I need this to be able to be played in Macs and in PCs.
Sounds like you made a data DVD, not a video DVD that will play in a DVD player or in a computer optical drive. (And I had read your initial post to mean that your disk was recognized in the Finder.)
If you do want a video DVD, then use Share>Burn DVD. If you want a data DVD, export a movie…using say, the Mac & PC setting in Apple Devices and then burn it in the Finder.
But I'm getting ahead of myself…which kind of DVD do you want?

  • How to burn to DVD in Premiere Elements 8 to play on DVD recorder.

I'm using Premiere Elements 8 with Windows 7, quad core i760 and 8 GB RAM. When I burn a project to disc, it will play on this PC but the disc is not recognised on my XP PC nor by my DVD recorder. My guess is that I'm burning as an HD DVD but can't see any way of changing this. Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

Geoff, I think you're chasing the wrong issues. The least likely problem is that Premiere Elements is producing unreadable discs.
Have you burned your DVD files to a folder on a hard drive rather than directly to a disc?
Have you tried using DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs rather than DVD-RWs (which many DVD players can't read)?
Your source files -- no matter where they come from -- will have no effect in how your DVD plays. Once it's all been transcoded, it's a matter of your disc player reading your disc. If that's not happening, you need to troubleshoot whether this issue is a problem with the discs themselves, a problem with your DVD player or a problem or a problem with your burner.
Burning to a folder on your hard drive will eliminate Premiere Elements as the cause of the problem. If the program can produce a VIDEO_TS folder full of VOB files, then you know the problem is either in your discs or your hardware.

You post with the generalized question regarding where to find instructions for the Premiere Elements burn to DVD. You were given those.
Now you write (with no in between message)
I need specific answers or no other suggestions.
I fully understand that and appreciate that. That is why I make it a point to customize my reply to the specific question being ask or to the
details of "what is not working". Where do I find your specific question and details in this thread so far?
So, to get to the specifics, just what is your specific burn to DVD issue that is causing to you write. There are many points along there way
where you may be stuck in the process.
If you read my question you can see where I’m stuck now
What are you doing when you get stuck. Telling me burning to DVD is not going to help.
    1. Do you know that after you edit your Timeline in the Edit area, you either go to Tools/Movie Menus or straight to Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc?
    2. If so, how far do you get? Is it that you do not know the path or that you get hit with a program crash or any error message in the Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc task? Is that where we are non communicating, distinguishing between the two?
I am prepared to give you right on answers if you can zero in on your question and details.
I want you to succeed. So, please help me to help you.
All I see from you so far is
I have edited a video with Premiere Elements. Now I cannot find instructions how to Burn this edited video to DVD or Blu-Ray disc. I have rendered to edited video. • How to burn to DVD without iDVD??

So I just made my first movie on iMovie11.  it is 72 minutes long and I want to burn it to a DVD to be able to play in my DVD player.  I have a new iMac with iLife already installed so I do not have iDVD and not sure I want to purchase iLife disc set all over again just to get it.  What other software can i download and what steps do I need to take to be able to watch my movie on any DVD player?

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.

  • IDVD selectively won't recognize .mp4 format - how to burn for dvd player?

    Hi -
I'm trying to burn a .mp4 movie for my gf's family so they can watch it on their TV instead of my tiny comp. After trying DiskUtility and iTunes (both to no avail, DU wouldn't even allow me to select a .mp4 format to burn on the DVD; iTunes burnt the movie, but it doesn't play on the DVD player ...). I thought I'd try iDVD, but it won't recognize the movie I'd like to burn - says the format is unrecognized. Tried with another movie, same format (.mp4) and it worked just fine.
I'm really at a loss - I didn't expect it would be so difficult to burn a DVD! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Rax

Alright, my results correspond with Russ' hypothesis: both videos I tried are in the same format & at the same FPS, the only difference b/w them is the audio. The one that worked is Stereo (L R), the one that does not is the 5.1.
Unfortunately, I do not have Quick Time Pro, I just have QTP 10.1 that came w/ Lion (& an older version that I added b/c it allows playback speed control). Here, the export options are:
    480p
    720p
    iPod touch & iPhone 3GS
iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV
    Audio only
None of these were an obvious choice to me, any suggestions? I've heard something about "Toast", would this be an easier / better option?
Thank you for on-going help. Very much appreicated.
    Kind regards,
    Rax
