i got string but only one character
i got 1,2,3,E
since i got 'E' here..........
i need to convert to it to character....
but how to change it.... i only know String to integer using Integer.parseInt() method....
but i don't know about char...................

Hello!!
I want to know how to change the character set in the database from AL32UTF8 to WE8DEC.
I tried to use the comand ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET but I got an error because WE8DEC is not a superset of AL32UTF8.
I need to import tables from a server that uses WE8DEC. So when I do the import to my server, wich has AL32UTF8 , I can't import the rows that include an Ñ.
So I want to change the caracter set to WE8DEC. How can I do it?
Is it needed to change the language configuration? The remote server has AMERICAN_AMERICA, and my server has MEXICAN SPANISH_MEXICO (both uses text in spanish).

When you export from WE8DEC server what did you use
for NLS_LANG char set? And when importing?
The export was done in another computer because I can't do the export in the server (I have 10g, and the remote server has 9i and the export is not working). In my server, when I tried to do the import, the NS_LANG value was MEXICAN SPANISH_MEXICO.WE8MSWIN1252.
When I try to import to my database I got the error:
import done in WE8DEC character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses AL32UTF8 character set (possible charset conversion)

ok. The following is a section from the original code (see above). I was hoping this code would take a binary string (ie, '1010101') and change the least significant bit which is a '0' to a '1'. The following section is my attempt at solving this problem, but as I run it, I encounter errors. I've been studying java for 2 months. I would like to know if anybody knows WHY this isn't working, and could offer an alternative method (as I've already stated, I think the use of the method 'charAt' is the main problem)

How to change the character set encoding not being a superset one

HI, i have a fresh installed database, but i realize the character set support in my client is not good enough, since its a not production database i want to change the character set encoding to anothor one not being a superset of the old one.
I have tried the "ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET WE8MSWIN1252" but it fails claiming i need a superset one.
I guess its just a single steps to do it, i have all the privileges, just not the time to reinstall and setup everything.

Do you know what that does to the existing data, though? My hunch would be that any characters which have a different binary representation in the source & target character sets would be corrupted.

How to change one iView to another in portal page by clicking the third one

I have created four iViews: two speedometers with web application designer and two iViews with visual composer. I added the speedometers and a visual composer iView #1 to a portal page (default view). The requirement is that by clicking the speedometer #2, the visual composer iView #2 would replace visual composer iView #1 on the portal page. If the user then would select the speedometer #1 again by clicking it, visual composer iView #2 would replace #1 again and so on.

I don't need to filter anything, just to change one iView to another in a portal view by clicking a third one.
I have thought of placing two VC iView to a same portal page area and defining one of the to be visible and another hidden (by clicking speedometers these properties would change), but I haven't found the way how that could be done in portal. Is there a way to define some OnClick-method to change visibility parameters or url-address of another iView?
One solution might be¨on the other hand to transfer any value to VC by clicking a speedometer and to change the visibility of the VC iViews according to that value (the speedometer #1 should in that case transfer other value to VC than speedometer #2). I don't know if that is possible with speedometers - you can't reference any characteristics or variables with it.
If you have an idea, what would be the best way to accomplish this requirement, I would be very glad to hear about it! We are in VC 7.0.

Hi,
In the portal, create a page and place the iView having the three input fields on top. Place the second iView below. Keep differing the second iView for every page. In this way you can make the iView with 3 input fields only in the desired pages. You can use EPCF to invoke / navigate to another iView.

How to change the character set of the D/b

When i issue the command
ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET UTF8
It gives me the error that I can only change the character set to a superset of the existing character set.
Is there any way i can change the character set without recreating the database.

The existing character set is the basis for the new character set. This is fair enough, because the character set determines how the actual data is stored in the database. Allowing new characters is a minor change: completely re-encoding your entire database is not.
I'm afraid export, recreate and import is your only option.

I think for anything Unicode, the meaning is self-defining. By this I mean "Marks" are the set of characters they have grouped together and called "Marks". I found this site that explains the categories. A German eszett ß is actually a lowercase character, not a mark. It seems that the Marks are special combining characters in Arabic, Hebrew, Tamil, etc.
The key thing to keep in mind is that MacOS X is designed to work in all of those languages. So, if you are writing code to "check for lowercase", you have to realize that there are literally thousands of lowercase letters. You should probably have a graceful way to handle ß and similar characters. One thing I have done in the past is just substitute some special character for anything that isn't strictly "a-z". That way, regardless of the input, I know what the output will be. That worked for my particular application, but it isn't appropriate in all or even most applications.

The best way would be to use Oracle Text.
However, if you want a quick and dirty solution, I would convert to CLOB, and (assuming 9i) you can use LOWER on the CLOB.

How to change a field of type CHAR of a database table to DATS

I have a database table: ZLT_aztnew with fields M1, M2, K1, K2, A1, A2, P1, P2, S2, D1, D2, STD, BES. All these fields are of type 'Character'. except D2 which is of type DATS. The field D1 is date and is in format DD.MM.YYYY.
I want to convert this field D1 to type DATS so that I can use a date range through 'selection option' to select other data of other fields (M1, M2, K1, K2, A1, A2, P1, P2, S2, D1, STD, BES.) related to field D1 from the database table Zlt_aztnew.
How should I introduce this change (CONVERSION OF D1 CHAR to DATS in the .AZT file upload code itself.

How do i change the char in the newly copied planning macro. i have changed kfs and char in the planning book but i am notseeing any option in the macro.

You dont really have to change the characteristics anywhere in the macros
When the macros run they get executed for the characteristics of the current planning area.
However if there is any macro which may be reading a value of the characteristic by hardcoding the name of the characteristic, you would need to replace the old char name with the new one..

How to get one character at a specified index and put it in a mutablestring

I am new in cocoa programing and i am stock.
I am trying to get a character in a NSString and i want to put it in a NSMutableString with the command appendString.
For now it's not working. I try with different approach but i didn't find the right way to do that. It's probably very simple but i just don't see hit.
I try with characterAtIndex and with getCharater. And now i am thinking to use charcaterRange but i don't know how to articulate an NSRange.
Maybe somebody could show an example of of what i have to do to do that.

I was testing the above when your first reply was posted. It uses the same method Et suggested, but I didn't want to just throw it away.

How to change Database character set?

Hi,
We are planning to make a clone of production Database which has:
select value$ from sys.props$ where name='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
AL32UTF8
We have set up a new server for that purpose and installed database, but by default it has
select value$ from sys.props$ where name='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
WE8ISO8859P1
So after making full import from full backup file we have some broken character in database.
How can I change from WE8ISO8859P1 to AL32UTF8?
I expect that I need to shutdown the clone database or even make from scratch full import.

I made a full backup from production database which has AL32UTF8
My new database is fresh and it has WE8ISO8859P1
I think the reason why I'm having some corrupted characters is because of difference in Character set between two database, right?
so I will need to change new database Character set to AL32UTF8 then make again full import.
