How to check CPU % Utilization with SNMP

We are using Ipswitch's What's Up Professional 2006 to monitor devices on our network. Their default snmp graphing utilities use the HOST RESOURCES MIB to collect and graph system performance statistics over time. I have them running perfectly on all my Windows servers, but for my Solaris systems I am only able to retrieve Memory, Disk, and Network Interface statistics. The CPU monitor is unable to retrieve data from our Solaris systems. A typical system is running Solaris 10 with the default agent, NET-SNMP version 5.0.x. Does anyone know if the default agent supports checking CPU usage in the HOST RESOURCES MIB? If not can anyone point me to a different MIB & instance that will return % CPU utilization of a Solaris 10 server? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I've searched everywhere for the solution but I am unable to find any straight-forward answers, hopefully someone can help.

Hi

  • How is GC cpu utilization % calculated?

I am trying to find a way to capture the problem where a user process eats up a ton of cpu for over 30 minutes. I thought that I could possibly use the cpu utilization metric.
In testing it, I reset the values to warning and critical thresholds to 0 and 5% respectively to see what would happen. I was emailed with the expected critical alert. In looking at the top sessions on the server, I noticed that 1 session was eating up 100% of one cpu (which I want to know about) but the alert email said that 45% was utilized which I noticed was about what the user load is on the server.
Initially, I had the warning and critical threshold set to 85 and 95% respectively but did not get any warning about a user process that was taking up 100% cpu for > 5 minutes (in which the 5 minute collect times were set to once).
    My questions are
    1) How do I capture a single process eating up > 90% cpu in a multi-cpu environment
    2) Is the cpu utilization % capturing the Average Load of the cpus on the server and alerting when it's above the critical threshold?
    3) How is the cpu utilization % calculated?
    Help would be appreciated.

The cpu load is determined by running the Grid program nmupm found in $AGENT_HOME/bin
    The output is like:
    dbc12ykf: PDBGRP> nmupm osCpuUsage
    em_result=1|206331806.000000|201540370.000000|102524043.000000|958620752.000000
    em_result=2|212731589.000000|201203614.000000|67775500.000000|948506267.000000

You will get a line for each cpu.
YOu'll need a bit of reverse engineering to figure out the columns - I think they are user, system, idle , 5min avg - Multiplied by 10000 ?
Now to capture a big one - I think you will need a user defined metric. Just write a simple shell script to run the above command, and evaluate the numbers coming thru.

  • How to check CPU useage ?

    Dear Team
I have one procedure which is executing daily two times(i.e morning run and evening run)
In morning run it's executing around 150 mins and evening run executing around 25 mins.
It's happening for all procedures executing in longer run in morning.
There is NO LOCKS, I have checked LOCKS while executing morning run.
I suspects CPU usage in morining run.
Could you please tell us how to check CPU useage ? AND also each session how much ultlizing CPU.

  • How to check CPU support

Wanting to upgrade with a new cpu or running into troubles after having already upgraded frequently the question comes up if the new cpu is supported by the board used.
Before asking about that with a post you should for yourself by just going to your mainboard's product site at msi.com
There just choose your board's category (AMD or Intel Platform) and click on your board's socket and choose your mainboard:
Is your board already out of production and not mentioned you need to click Archive instead of Intel/AMD platform:
In the following pop-up just enter the name of your board, click "search" and you will be directed to the archived product site:
When you finally opened your board's product site click on "support" -> "cpu support" and all supported cpus will be listed as well as the bios version with which support for the cpu has been implemented
Is your new cpu not listed there it is not officially supported which could result in all kinds of problems from just not recognising the cpu's name string to not booting at all. Buying an unsupported cpu is therefor a gamble and not recommended.
If the new cpu is listed, you need to check if the bios installed on your board is supporting the cpu or you need to update. To figure out what bios version you have, >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< if you want to upgrade a running system. After starting the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher it will automatically detect your board's current bios and save the details in a file on your desktop called MSIHQ_INFO.txt. There you can read up the exact bios version. Posting in a topic to get assistance you can quote this details to make it easier for others to help you
If you have just the board you can look for a tiny green sticker on the bios chip that has the version of the original bios it came with printed on it.
With new cpu generations coming up MSI usually creates microsites where you can lookup if your older board will support it.
Currently Intel platform users are wondering if their socket 1155 boards are supporting Ivy Bridge while AMD users want to know if their boards support AM3+ cpus (FX) or Vishera (2nd Generation FX) or Richland if FM2 is used. To answer if support is implemented or planned the following microsites can be checked:
    >Socket 1155 supporting 22nm (Intel IVY BRIDGE)<
    >AM3+ (AMD FX multicore processors) support<
    >Vishera (2nd gen AMD FX multicore processors) support<
    >FM2 Richland support<

Simply check the product site for cpu support (like instructed in "How to check CPU support"): http://www.msi.com/support/mb/890GXMG65.html#support-cpu

  • How to reduce CPU utilization time in Java Application

    Hi,
I have created a Java Application. It is a 3-tier architecture. While running my Java application, the CPU utilization percentage shots up to 100 %. I feel that it will affect the system performance and it will hang up the system also.
If any body know the solution to reduce the CPU utilization or links, please post it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kennedy

I know Java class file must be interpreted by VM. but
Visual Basic is also a language to be interpreted. Why
it run faster than Java? As Java running speed is
concerned, it's unwise to apply to the
    enterprise-level application. Now I can't endure Java
running speed. I wander to know whether it is
associated with operating system or not.1. Java is nto interpreted in modern (since 1997 or earlier) JVM's - it is compiled into machine code as it is executed via a JIT or a Dynamic compiler (like HotSpot).
    2. VB (5 and later) is also not truely interpreted - in fact it uses the same excellent native code generator used by Visual C++.
    3. Java is principally used these days for enterprise server-based systems where it performs extremely well - or extremely poorly as does C++ in the hands of people who don't know how to use it.
    4. Different JVM's (and in some cases the same JVM hosted on different OS's) perform at different speeds - your mileage will vary. The OS has little influence on the computational speed of java but can highly influence its network, disk and graphics performance, as does hardware configuration (local console versus X terminal - Swing sucks on X Term).

  • How to measure CPU utilization from Oracle AWR

    Hi All,
How to measure the cpu usage % from the AWR reports.
    Oracle : 10.2.0.3

  • High CPU utilization with SQL Server 2005

Our company recently combined our DBs into one SQL 2005 Server.
Dell Power Edge 1800 with 3.00 GHz Xeon Processor 800 FSB, 1 GB of RAM
Dell Power Edge 1600 with 2.80 GHz Xeon Processor 533 FSB, 1 GB of RAM
    Combined into one:
Dell Power Edge 2950 Dual Core 1.6 GHz Xeon Woodcrest Processor, 4 GB of RAM
However, the CPU utilization on this new server is maintaining at about 90% with 3.82 GB of RAM used as well.  It's a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 edition running SQL Server 2005 SP2 x64.  I have searched around Microsoft's website for any information that could be of help to me, but I was unable to locate anything.  I was hoping that someone could provide some insight as to why this might be occuring.  Or if this is a known issue.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hello!
Here are some steps to take after upgrading your SQL Server from 2K to 2K5. (This quote is from BOL)
After upgrading the Database Engine to SQL Server 2005, complete the following tasks:
Register your servers - Upgrade removes registry settings for the previous SQL Server instance. After upgrading, you must reregister your servers.
Repopulate full-text catalogs - The upgrade process marks your databases as full-text disabled. Catalogs must be repopulated, but this operation is not run automatically by Setup because it can be time-consuming. As this operation enhances the performance of your SQL Server 2005 installation, administrators should plan to repopulate full-text catalogs at a convenient time.
Update statistics - To help optimize query performance, we recommend that you update statistics on all databases following upgrade. Use the sp_updatestats stored procedure to update statistics in user-defined tables in SQL Server 2005 databases.
Update usage counters - In earlier versions of SQL Server, the values for the table and index row counts and page counts can become incorrect. To correct any invalid row or page counts, we recommend that you run DBCC UPDATEUSAGE on all databases following upgrade.
Configure your new SQL Server installation - To reduce the attackable surface area of a system, SQL Server 2005 selectively installs and activates key services and features. For more information on how to activate SQL Server 2005 features, see SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.

  • High CPU utilization with javascript

Has anyone noticed how Safari 10.4.4 has high CPU utilization (e.g. >60%) when javascript is enabled, particularly for certain websites? Opening FoxNews.com and a few Wired.com pages in separate tabs sends my Powerbook fans screaming. Disabling javascript brings utilization down to under 2%.
Any suggestions on how to fix this, or do I have to live with it? I prefer not to permanently disable javascript as a number of websites I frequent depend upon it, without consuming CPU.
    Thanks,
    Ira

    Hi,
I agree that it's a function of the javascript code itself on the webpage, and not with the browser. It's possible to even write infinite loops in Javascript which can practically hang a web browser due to the high percentage of CPU cycles being consumed. I only knowingly encountered such a site once, when I was at a customer site with my PowerBook running on battery power. I unknowingly navigated to a site which apparently had some Javascript of some other executable code, which had the result of running my battery from about 95% charge to about 60% in about 10 minutes!
The only way to avoid this is to avoid the sites that cause this kind of problem, or to disable Javascript when visiting these sites. And if possible, send a complaint to the webmaster of the site. He/she might not be aware of this problem.

  • High CPU utilization with JDesktopPane.OUTLINE_DRAG_MODE

    Hello there,
since I updated from Java SDK 1.4.0 to 1.4.1_01 I recognized a problem with MDI Java applications using a JDesktopPane with JInternalFrames. When the drag mode of the internal frames is set to OUTLINE_DRAG_MODE, which should have a better performance than the LIVE_DRAG_MODE the cpu utilization goes nearly up to 100% an the drag of the frame is quite slow.
Does anybody else experience this problem?
(The problem exists in the application I develop and also in the IDE Netbeans, I use for development)
I am not sure if this is the right place for my problem, so if there is a better one to post it to, please tell me.
    Thanks
    Rdiger

    Hi,
I've also noticed this. It happens on Windows 2000 with 1.4.1, but not with version 1.4.0. Have you found a solution yet?

    Thanks ak, for the response.
Yes, the messages are consumed in transactions. I set imq.txn.reapLimit=200 in Start Arguments in jvm configuration.
I verified that it is being set in the log.txt file for the broker:
    -Dimq.autocreate.queue=false -Dimq.autocreate.topic=false -Dimq.txn.reapLimit=250
It did not make any difference. Do I need to set this property somewhere else ?
As far as upgrading MQ is concerned, I am using glassfish 2.1. And I think MQ 4.3 is packaged with it. Can you suggest a safe way to upgrade to OpenMQ 4.5 in a running environment. I can bring down the cluster temporarily. Can I just change the jar file somwhere to use MQ4.5 ?

  • How to check existing patches with a query

    Hi,
I need to check the existing patches in oracle appls 11i with a sql query.
I assume I can reference the table ad_applied_patches . But, I am not sure if the column PATCH_NAME is actually the number : 5903765 in ATG Rollup Patchset 6 (11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.6, Patch 5903765) . if not, how can i check that.
Also, I couldn't find the proper TRM. so any help with that too would be appreciated.
    Thank you..

    Hi,
You cannot query by name, but you can query AD_BUGS by the patch number -- See (Note: 390864.1 - How to check which Techstack patchsets have been applied on 11i or R12 ?) for details.
If you want to check the latest Family Packs applied, see this thread.

  • How to check for duplicates - with a twist?

As I'm importing music from my CD collection, is there a way to automatically check for duplicates - with an unusual twist?
I already imported about 70 CDs using AAC format.
I just bought a huge external drive specifically for storing my entire collection of CDs and LPs. Now that I have lots of space, I want to import everything in Apple Lossless format.
Is there an automatic (or at least painless) way to check for duplicates as I'm importing CDs, and to have the old AAC music files over written by the new Apple Lossless files?

    Hi Clinto,
Do you see the column headers above in itunes? They say Title, Album, Artist, etc. I don't know if it's the same for MAC but in Windows, Right Click on the column headers and click "Kind". This will display the format each song is in. If your column headers already take up all of your screen, you're gonna have to uncheck one to make room for "kind".
Oh! and to overwrite existing files, make sure the ID3 tags are filled exactly to the old ones prior to ripping, though you don't need to fill all of them. I think you just fill the Artist, Album Artist, Album, and Title. A window will appear as you start to rip. It will ask if you want to overwrite the existing files, click "Yes". Again, don't know about Mac but it works this way in Windows.

  • How to check CPU speed, remove or install softwares? I'm a newbi

    Hi all,
I just purchased my MBP yesterday. I'm totally new to this machine. I don't know how to see CPU speed, RAM, or other hardwares on this computer. Also, I don't know if the apple button use for what? I press "apple" and nothing happens. Last, could someone tell me how to optimize the computer? I had 80GB but now I have only 57GB availble. I don't know why this MBP uses so much space.
Thanks again for all your help. I will have more questions for you
P/S: I couldn't find these info by search.

Hi y - Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Hi all,
I just purchased my MBP yesterday. I'm totally new to
this machine. I don't know how to see CPU speed, RAM,
or other hardwares on this computer.
click on the blue apple in the upper left corner of your display (a drop menu will open) then click on About This Mac.
a window pops up. some basic system info is shown there.
for all the add'l details, click on More Info...
that will open up the System Profiler which lists everything hardware- and software-wise...
the System Profiler is also sitting in Applications > Utilities, and you can also start it by double-clicking on its icon there..
    Also, I don't
know if the apple button use for what? I press
    "apple" and nothing happens.
the apple button on the keyboard is a "command key".
i.e. most applications will quit if you enter the key combination apple+Q.
save is apple+S, and so on.
    Last, could someone tell
me how to optimize the computer? I had 80GB but now I
have only 57GB availble. I don't know why this MBP
    uses so much space.
fairly typical. the default installation process writes language
localizations, many many printer drivers, and other things
you may not need. you can use the application monolingual
to remove language localizations that you don't want (download
it from versiontracker). printer drivers are generally smaller,
but some like keeping that to a minimum...
also if iLife is installed including GarageBand - there might be some GB of
'garageband loops' you might not need.
so, all in all, how much you might be able to clean up depends on how
you want to use your machine... post back w/ any details if you like...
Thanks again for all your help. I will have more
    questions for you
P/S: I couldn't find these info by search.
    enjoy your new machine!!! cheers
