How to clean off old IPOD

I purchased my daughter a new IPOD last December(06)
I would like to clean off her old IPOD and to give to my nephew. Is there a way to do that....I still have the original box and software for it so I thought I could pass it on...
Also if he doesn't want the Ipod does anyone know if Apple buys back old IPODS to refurbish....
Thank you

Connect it t the computer, open iTunes and click Restore to erase the iPod.
*does anyone know if Apple buys back old IPODS to refurbish...*
No they do not.
If you go to an Apple retail store, they will give you 10% off a new iPod when turning in an old one.

  • I have a 120gb Classic that has no space left on it. i am going to buy a larger gb capacity ipod as soon as i get clearer instruction on how to get the old ipod content to the new ipod. How do you get content from one ipod to the other?

how do you get content from one ipod to the new one? my content is on an external hard drive not on my pc and i have run out of space on my 120gb classic. can you get old ipod content to new? my itunes has only got short cuts, the real content is on an external drive? can this be done?? please help

If the content is on an external drive, but your library knows where to find it, then it should all work. Connect your device, make some selections for what to put on it, and sync. If, on the other hand, your current iPod is the only place holding some of your media then see this user tip: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

My oldest daughter recently bought a new ipod touch and gave her old one to her brother.  How do I unlink his ipod from her account and set up his own without losing the music and apps already on it?

Connect it to his iTunes library and set it up as a new device.  You should be prompted to Erase and Sync the iPod if his iTunes library is separate from hers.
Or head to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Content and Settings.

  • HT1430 How to turn off an IPod nano

How can I turn on an iPod nano

You've posted this question in the iPod Touch forum.
Despite owning both an iPod Touch and an iPod Classic, I (for one) have no idea how to turn on an iPod nano. Nor, since the title of your post actually says "how do I turn off an iPod nano", do I know how to turn it off.
The question asked in the other post (to which you respnded) is about the shuffle feature. So I suggest you start again, in the correct forum and saying what you actually mean, i.e. are you trying to turn the shuffle feature on and off, or simply turn the nano on and off?
Any by the way, it's a bad idea to put your telephone number in a public forum such as this.

  • HT1420 how to reauthorize an old iPod ?

I gave an old ipod to my brother. I now have too many devices so I have to deauthorize it. I don't see a choice to that listed only deauthorize all was listed.

You have to purchase the Firewire charger and the firewire cable for the ipod. Does it have a dock connector on the bottom of the ipod?

  • HT1363 how to import photos off old ipods

I have over 10,000 pictures on my ipod classic v1.3 and I need to copy the photos off of it. Does anyone have a procedure on doing this?

There is no procedure for doing that, using iTunes.  When you synced the photos to the iPod, iTunes reduced the resolution of the images to optimize them for the iPod's small screen (and save storage space used by the photos on the iPod).  Therefore, they are probably very low res compared to the original photos.  The image data is also consolidated into a single database file.
There may be third-party utilities that can extract those images from the iPod.
The only exception is IF you had a setting enabled when you synced the photos to the iPod.  On the iPod's Photos screen in iTunes (where you set up syncing for photos), there is a checkbox for Include full-resolution photos.  If that was checked when you synced the photos to the iPod, iTunes separately puts a copy of the original image files on the iPod, in a folder called Photos.  You can then Enable disk use on the iPod, and manually copy those image files from the iPod using the Mac's Finder.

  • How to Clean and Polish iPod Nano 6th Gen?

    Hey guys,
I just got a good deal off eBay of a used iPod Nano 6th Gen in the mail today, but it seems quite dirty. Their is much dust and gunk under the clip, the buttons and screens have many smudges, and the the 30-pin connector port and headphone jack are a little dirty on the inside, kinda moldy in too.
Does any one know how to properly clean the ports, and the rest of the iPod before I use it? Thanks.

  • EM12cR2 - how to clean up old agent core directories after upgrade?

    Running EM12cR2+PSU1 on Linux x86-64.
Does anybody know the recommended/supported/correct way to remove old versions of the EM12c agent core directories on managed servers after the agents have been upgraded to EM12cR2? This isn't a huge issue, but I've been setting up my agents on small (2GB) dedicated volumes and I won't have enough space available for the next round of upgrades unless I get the old stuff cleared out.
I have one server that was added to the environment after my EM12cR2 upgrade, and several servers that were already being monitored before the upgrade. The servers where I upgraded the agents after installing EM12cR2 all still have copies of the agent base core/12.1.0.1.0 directory along with the new agent base core/12.1.0.2.0 directory. I've tried removing this directory and bouncing the agent, but the agent gets blocked since it apparently cannot locate some files it expects to find. Other than being rejected by the OMS, the agent appears to function fine. I can only unblock the agent successfully if I put the 12.1.0.1.0 directory back in place.
Here's what I'm seeing on an upgraded agent:
    /oraagent> du -sh agent12c
    1.5G    agent12c
    /oraagent> ls agent12c/core
    12.1.0.1.0  12.1.0.2.0
    /oraagent> du -sh agent12c/core/*
    626M    agent12c/core/12.1.0.1.0

    Protocol Version  : 12.1.0.1.0
    Agent Home        : /oraagent/agent12c/agent_inst
Agent Binaries    : /oraagent/agent12c/core/12.1.0.2.0On a host that never had the EM12cR1 agent installed, I see:
    /oraagent> du -sh agent12c
    631M    agent12c
    /oraagent> ls agent12c/core
    12.1.0.2.0

Agent Binaries    : /oraagent/agent12c/core/12.1.0.2.0Interestingly the inventory.xml in the oraInventory on the upgraded server still contains references to the 12.1.0.1.0 directory that seem useless:

</HOME>The agent upgrades were all performed through the agent upgrade console without incident. The OMS server itself also contains both 12.1.0.1.0 and 12.1.0.2.0 in the agent base core directory. The fact that the agent on the server that never had 12.1.0.1.0 installed is working fine would seem to indicate that the 12.1.0.1.0 binaries aren't required for proper functionality, but I'm just not clear on how to remove them. I would like to avoid losing the targets monitored by these agents and having to recreate them and their jobs and so on.
Any thoughts? Has anybody else had the same issue occur in their environment?

If you are talking about the target agent upgrade to 12.1.0.2 and there is core dir left behind then you can delete only the contents of the $AGENT_BASE_DIR/core/12.1.0.1.0 directory and make sure that
    the directory $AGENT_BASE_DIR/core/12.1.0.1.0 exists
Just FYI: for next EM release, we have a proper feature: sign off process where all dangling old oracle homes, their disk foot pints plus oms side artifacts, for upgraded agents can be removed.
The Upgrade guide is also getting updated with same information, should be live in next 2-3 days. We have told the same to come of our customer like AT&T, Fedility ..etc
I would also like to share information on the thread:
Re: How to delete 12.1.0.1 OMS Home when it contains the 12.1.0.2 agent s/w?
The script/steps to move the agent home from old middleware home to new one while doing the Oms upgrade from 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.2 is also ready. We also provided this script to one of our customer and they verified this script ( works for them :) )
How to Migrate the AGENT BASE DIRECTORY under Middleware Home to another location outside the Middleware Home? (Doc ID 1520010.1)

  • Keeping music off old ipod when using new computer??

I'm trying to do my son's Ipod.  I don't want to lose the music that he has on his Ipod.  How can I keep music that is on it but add music off this computer too.  I've added his CD's but he still has some music that  is on it that he no longer has the CD's for.

Sorry if the pictures doesn't appear  earlier
    these are the 2 pictures.

  • Get photos off old ipod

My old computer is gone. The photos from that computer were synced to my old, click wheel ipod, 80GB. I have the ipod. The ipod does appear in itunes, but the photo option on the left does not appear. The only option I have in itunes in to synce photos from my computer to my ipod. I don't want to do that! I want to get the photos off of my ipod and safely on my new computer.
Another thread said to try image capture, but that didn't work. Maybe ipod is too old?
    Any ideas?

Syncing photos is only one way, from your PC to your iPod. If you need to copy photos from your iPod back to your PC, you'll need the assistance of some third party software.  Also keep in mind that these photos are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnail versions optimized for viewing on your iPod's small screen.
    Here is one option.

  • HELP...hard drive failure..need to transfer music off old ipods

Just recently had a harddrive failure had a back-up drive with 40gb of music half of which was purchased off itunes 7. Installed new drive decided i would upgrade ram and OSX to leopard. Every thing seemed hunky dory. Moved all i tunes files to ITunes 8. Setup the new Backup feature on leopard. Just now figured out that the music i copied to ITunes 8 is listed but gives error " The Song "" cannot be used because the original file cannot be found" i checked back-up drive no music ...back-up has erased all my files. Now i have a 160gb ipod classic that has all my music on it. Since this is essentially a new computer itunes 8 will not recognized ipod until i sync ....which will erase my music on the ipod since those files are no longer detected. How do i save this music? Any and all ideas will be appreciated.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
