How to connect 2 24" Cinema Displays to a non Thunderbolt MBP

Hi I have a 2010 15" MBP and two 24" Apple Cinema Displays.  I recently purchased a Matrox DualHead2Go Digital ME graphics expander thinking I could connect the two displays to it.  However, the displays have mini displayport connectors and the Matrox is expecting DVI-D connectors.  It seems that Matrox do not have a female mini displayport to male DVI adaptor so I am stuck.
Has anyone found a way of connecting two 24" Apple Cinema Displays to a non Thunderbolt MBP?
Thanks in advance
Neville

Just got the DualHead2Go DP edition. Problem is, I need a MiniDP (female) to DP (male) adapter to connect my two Apple 24" LED displays to it... and I can't find one anywhere? basically the DualHead2go only has DP inputs. All of my devices (24" LED displays and 17" MBP) are MiniDP.
Anyone have any ideas?
Shane

  • How to connect a Cinema Display to alternative input?

I want to upgrade my Mac Pro (2009) to a reasonably priced graphics card but there are very few that have a Mini Displayport input.
How do I connect a Cinema display with only a Mini DP to an HDMI, Displayport or DVI input? (and still use the sound)
I've looked for Mini DP(female) adapters and can't find any.

I'm unsure of the issue, the Mini has both mDP and HDMI outputs, right? If so, the mDP for the Cinema Display an a HDMI to VGA adapter for the 2nd monitor.

  • How to connect my Cinema Display as a second monitor

I just purchased a new 27-inch iMac, and I explained to the Apple folks that I had a 17-inch cinema display (silver clad model) that I wanted to connect, for a dual monitor set up. They told me just to get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, but I was surprised to realize that's not going to work.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, and what connector is actually needed? I have the big old white power brick that I bought to daisy chain my old 17 and 23 inch displays with my old configuration (Mac Pro).
Or can you not have a second monitor with an iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

How do I connect my Cinema Display to my MacBook Pro???  I have the dvi to vga display port thing and nothing works.

What model (year) MacBook Pro?  Depending on the model, it may have DVI, mini DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, or HDMI video connectors.
What model (yeasr) and size (17", 20". 22" ...) display.  Depending on the model, it may have ADC, singlre-link DVI, dual-link DVI, or Mini DisplayPort connectors.

  • HT1825 Can I connect post cinema displays to my G4 and how?

Can I connect post cinema displays to my G4 and how?

You can use newer monitors but there are different ways to connect.
It all depends on the video card installed in your computer. Different model cards had different ports. My G4 MDD has the ATI Radeon 9000 with one ADC port (abandoned technology) and one DVI port (useful technology). So we need to either see the description of your graphics card from System Profiler >Graphics/displays, a photo of the ports on your card, or both.
As long as you find a monitor that shares the kind of ports on your Mac, you will be fine. I have a 2008-vintage LCD monitor on that circa 2003 MDD of mine. The MDD shipped with an Apple DVI-to-VGA adaptor so I can connect any monitor with DVI or VGA ports.
There is an inconsistency in your equipment profile: No PowerMac can run OS 10.6. Please do "About this Mac" and verify your processor type and Mac OS version. Then you can edit your profile to avoid future confusion.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.53GHz Mid2009.. updated to Lion which is now 10.7.3 build 11D50b... when I close lid and connect to Cinema Display, display will not activate... disconnect display, open lid laptop display will not activate... used to work fine.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.53GHz Mid2009.. updated to Lion which is now 10.7.3 build 11D50b... when I close lid and connect to Cinema Display, display will not activate when keyboard/mouse used... disconnect display, open lid and laptop display will not activate... only way out is hold power button.  Worked fine before Lion update.   Any Advice?

Thanks very much Coander15... I've printed the doc you pointed me towards and I'll run through it.. hoping it helps!
Before I installed Lion I simply hit any key on the keyboard or clicked the mouse...
The keyboard is USB (usually connected to monitor which is connected to laptop... have tried direct connect to laptop as well with no luck) and mouse is USB wireless to one of those tiny plug in's... have tried direct connect USb mouse as well with no luck.
I could plug the closed/sleeping laptop into the monitor and unplug from the monitor without incident all day/night... always worked fine.
Had heard something about this happening w/ Lion but went ahead anyway.
    Oh well...
Hoping your pointer helps... will let you know how it turns out.  Thanks very much for responding!!!

  • Connecting DVI Cinema Display and VGA Projector from Minidisplay Port

    Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to get my mid 2011 Mac Mini to send a signal from my MiniDisplay Port to a vga splitter which works fine. My biggest thing is that when I connect my inFocus IN112 VGA Projector the screen shows up from my mac but to connect my Cinema Display it takes VGA so I had to go from the VGA Splitter on one side and use a vga to dvi adapter and my cinema display shows blank? Help Me Please!!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I already have a converter on the end of the VGA Splitter to go to the Cinema. The reason I don't use the hdmi to dvi is because with the minidisplay port using vga to the projector and the hdmi going to dvi to the Cinema it makes the projector screen very rough and pixely

If you don't need high speed for one display, you could use a USB to DVI adapter

  • How connect old Cinema Display

I have one of the first Apple cinema displays. I have been using it with an old G-4 computer. It has a 30 pin plug. Can I connect if to a new Macbook Pro?
    How do I do it?

No, sorry, maryo2222. They had these a few months ago here, so maybe you will be luckier where you are. The box is about 8" x 10" in case someone offers one to you. White of course. If you don't have any luck with the stores, you might try eBay or something like that. The price was about $150 (calculating from the price here).

  • How do i connect a cinema display to macbook pro

I got a hand-me-down cinema display from my work for hookup to my macbook pro - there are 4 different connections attached and I don't know what goes where.

You can connect to a Thunderbolt port with
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter>
    or the HDMI port with
    <http://www.startech.com/Cables/Audio-Video/Video-Adapter/HDMI-to-DVI-D-Video-Cab le-Adapter-M-F~HDMIDVIMF>
If the display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter.

  • How do I connect 2 Cinema Displays to my PowerMac G4?

I heard I can do this and was wondering what the setup is. I have a 23" display right now and would consider getting a second if it's possible. Thanks.

    Hi
It partly depends on which connector the displays use and which connectors you have on your graphics card.
If they're the new style aluminium Cinema displays with a DVI connector, you'd need the following:
One graphics card with two DVI connectors, e.g. the Radeon 9600 PC & Mac Edition
    OR
One graphics card with a DVI connector and ADC connector, along with an ADC to DVI extractor cable
    OR
Two graphics cards, one AGP and one PCI, each with a DVI connector
    OR
Two graphics cards, one AGP with an ADC connector along with an ADC to DVI extractor cable, one PCI with a DVI connector.
If they're the old style clear acrylic Cinema displays with an ADC connector, you'd need at least one DVI to ADC adapter. There aren't any AGP graphics cards available with two ADC connectors, and there aren't any PCI graphics cards available with any ADC connectors.
    I hope this helps.

  • Connect 24" Cinema Display with Mini DisplayPort to new 21.5' iMac

I'm having a bit of an issue attempting to connect my new 21.5' iMac to my Apple Cinema Display. The display has a mini DV port that used to connect into my MacBook Pro but now I see there is no such port on the iMac.  They clearly state they offer support for it but I don't see a way to connect. Any suggestions?

    19. How do I connect my Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac when I have other Thunderbolt devices connected?
When connecting a Mini DisplayPort display or a display using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt peripheral (except as described in question 14), make sure the display is connected at the end of the Thunderbolt chain. You can use only one Mini DisplayPort device in the Thunderbolt chain.
Note: Systems with more than one Thunderbolt port, like an iMac, can have more than one Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor connected with a Mini DisplayPort adapter connected as each Thunderbolt port can support one Mini DisplayPort display.
