How to connect my iPad, Brother printer, and AirPort Extreme?

I don't believe any of the Brother printers are AirPrint-enabled. Is your Brother printer network-ready? That is, does is support either/both a wired or wireless connection or just uses USB to connect?

Hi, I recently bought a Brother HL-2270DW printer, which has 802.11 b/g wireless capabilities. My airport extreme (2008 model) is set to 802.11 n (5 ghz), so I can't set-up the printer wirelessly to the airport extreme without changing to 802.11 b/g. Instead I'm fine hooking up the printer to the airport extreme using a USB. When I first turn on the printer, I can print from my Macbook, but after a few minutes, the printer goes offline and has to be turned off/on. When I try to Open Printer Utility, there is a connection error. I have the right driver installed, and I can print fine for a few minutes after turning on the printer, and all the time when the printer is connected to the Macbook directly using the USB. I would like to use the printer by connecting it to the airport extreme using the USB or Ethernet. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks,

Please explain exactly what you're experiencing that leads you to claim that.
The current firmware of the TiVo Premier is easily confused about whether it's connected to the Internet or not. In my experience, a TiVo unit will quickly regain its senses and decide that it really is connected.

Printer and AirPort Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet

I own a macbook, one windows xp pc, and two windows vista notebooks. I bought a airport extreme base station. I set it up with my macbook at first and I do a print and it works. I do the same with the others. I install the printers drives to all notebooks. Then tried to print and only one of them worked. They all have bonjour download for windows. So i restarted all the pc's and mac and tried to print and never prints. On the pc's i get a error message. On the mac i get an its busy and never prints. All of them connect to the internet, but no printing. I have the printer connected to the base station. I did two prints and then I couldnt print after that. Internet works. Please i need some help to fix this. Thanks in advance

Maybe you already have fixed your printing problem. I'm no expert but I sometimes have had printing problems and I feel for you. However, first of all. What sort of printer do you have? It sounds to me that one of the pc printing documents got stuck somewhere on its way to the printer and now it is taking up space on the network (figuratively speaking ofcourse). I can recall something happening to my network/printer some years ago. Unfortunately I can not remember what I did to fix the problem but if I were you I would do the following: First I would disconnect the pc from the network and then try to reset the printer clearing its print memory. Then I would try to get the mac to print again. If succesfull I would take the mac off the network and connect one of the pc's and get that to print. If I succeded I would repeat the procedure with the other pc's. If I wasn't succesfull I would clear the memory again and then try with one of the other pc's. But I would only try one computer at the time to try to isolate the problem. Maybe you have already tried this and since pc's are a mystery to me I dont't know how to help you in that department. However using bonjour on the pc's I would not expect to have problems (though I use Windowc XP print menu on my vertual pc - works fine).

Best connection with U-verse Gateway and AirPort Extreme

These past couple of weeks I've been having problems where my AirPort Extreme (connected to my U-verse Gateway) has been randomly rebooting. I had Apple exchange the entire unit along with power cables and AT&T has already switched out the Gateway and it was STILL rebooting. I finally reset both to factory settings and started fresh. I turned off the Wireless on the U-verse Gateway and the Extreme is in Bridge Mode. That is how its always been and luckily fixed the rebooting. I am now having issues with my devices losing connection. For example, on my iPad Air, it'll show it is connected to my Network, but going onto Safari and trying to load a page gives me the "Server Not Responding" error. Issues also happen on not only Apple devices, but on a Wii U where I get connection errors. I HAVE NOT had these problems on my iMac (which is wireless), just on these other devices. I have not messed around with DMZ Plus Mode or changed any settings on the Gateway other than turning off the Wireless. I think it might have something to do with IP Addresses or something, but I am really not sure. If you have this same set-up, are you having these issues or what settings do I need to change? Ok so I began by reseting both devices and that fixed the majority of the "Server Not Responding" errors. BUT now I'm getting the problem where the AirPort Extreme randomly reboots. Like all of a sudden, all my devices will be disconnected from WiFi. When I go to the router, the Amber light is blinking then goes back to green. This was the issue from the very beginning and it really is very annoying. Can anyone help? If not, I'll try to contact AppleCare and post their solution in case somebody else is having these issues.

Sure, if you made a more secure password, that is quite possible. Minimum recommendation is the following:
1. use WPA
2. use a password with no word from ANY dictionary
3. use a password that is a combination of letters (upper and lowercase), numbers and special characters
4. use a password at least 12 characters long.

Unable to connect HP PSC 1513 printer to Airport Extreme

HI, Hopefully someone can help me. I have a HP PSC 1513 printer which previously worked through my Airport Express. I have since moved to an Airport Extreme and have tried to co locate the printer with the base station. Unfortunately nothing seems to work. Connecting Motorola SB6121 Cable Modem and AirPort Extreme

I moved into a new house a couple of days ago so of course the first thing that I needed to do was get the home wireless up and running. My ISP is through Comcast. I purchased my own cable modem (Motorola SB6121) instead of renting and used my own AirPort Extreme as the wireless router.
First, if you're purchasing your own cable modem, you will need to contact your ISP and provide them with the HFC MAC ID on the cable modem. Once you've gone through the motions, you will be able to connect your Mac (in my case Macbook) directly to the modem via ethernet cable and access the internet.
Issue:
When I connected the SB6121 to the AE, I could connect wirelessly to the AE, but I did not have access to the internet. So, basically the SB6121 and the AE were not talking to each other despite being physically connected via ethernet cable.
Solution:
After days of searching for online answers and forums (and trying different solutions) I was able to successfully get everything up and running. Make sure that you have 2 ethernet cables available.
Here are the steps.
I restored my AE to factory settings just to keep everything simple. Here are instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728 Once you've restored your AE, make sure that both the AE and the cable modem are unplugged from their power sources.
Plug in the power to the SB6121.
Connect your SB6121 directly to your laptop via Ethernet cable. Test to ensure that you have internet accessibility by going to any website.
Remove the ethernet cable from your laptop and plug it into the "internet in" jack in the back of the AE.
Power up the AE.
Connect your laptop to the back of the AE using ethernet cable #2.
Launch a browser. You should now be able to successfully connect to any website.
Assuming that you reset your AE to factory settings, it should just be broadcasting the generic "Airport Extreme" SSID. Disconnect the ethernet cable and connect using wireless to the SSID. Launch a browser and you should be able to connect to the internet.
You can now use the AirPort Utility to configure the AirPort settings.
I assume that this solution would work with any of the base stations.

I was having the exact same issue tonight. Just purchased the AE Model A1408 and haven't been able to maintain an internet connection on my iMac whenever I tried hooking it up via the Airport Utility application. So after I had the SB6121 connected to the AE and the AE connected to my PC with no luck, I then went to the Network icon in System Preferences. Clicked on "Assist me...". Then clicked on "Diagnostics..." and followed the directions which basically had me first power down the SB6121 modem and power it back up. Then I powered down the AE router and powered it back up. At that point I was now getting an internet connection. I then took my ipad 2 and went to the Wi-Fi settings and noticed it was asking me to setup a network through my AE. I selected that and went through the simple steps to set up the network and password and now it all works. I am a novice so don't ask me why but I now get a green solid light on my AE. I can connect other devices wirelessly. I can still access the internet on my iMac. For whatever reason, using the Airport Utility on the iMac doesn't work in my case and using my ipad to set up the wireless network did the job.

I have an imac with a security enabled airport extreme base station. When I startup in Windows via bootcamp and try to connect to the internet I don't know how to enter the network password. Windows sees the network and prompts for a password but my password does not work. Does anyone know what the windows OS is looking for?

HP Deskjet F4100 series printer and AIRPORT EXTREME

From browsing this forum, there seems to be a lot of people with printing problems. Add me to the list!
I have an HP Deskjet F4100 printer attached to the USB port of the AIRPORT EXTREME. Printing a very simple and small text document wirelessly from one of my Windows Vista Laptops works fine, but when I try to print a more complex page, the print spool shows a print error and restarts printing the page. This is the case for the Windows Test Print Page for example. I bought the AIRPORT EXTREME to provide wireless printing capabilities at home. When the printer is attached directly to the laptop, printing is fine. Thank you for your help.

I have set more options in the Printer Properties for the AIRPORT attached printer.
Since color printing seems to not work properly, I have set the color options to use greyscale. This is not an ideal solution, but it atleast presents a printed page that is consistent.
I have also removed the bidirectional mode on the PORT tab in Printer Properties.
If ANYONE has had any good results with color printing using this printer on the AIRPORT EXTREME, please add some comments or suggestions! Thanks!

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

If it says there is no sim card installed it either can't find one physcially, or the card moved and lost contact or has failed. A new sim card can be obtained form your Mum's cell/mobile carrier if needed easily.
However this is irrelevant to whether or not the iPad can join a Wifi network. Its 2 different things.
For now ignore the Sim card message and just try to connect to her Wifi network. It is independent and should function regarldess of the sim card status.
