How to connect new iMac to TV???

I'm not very computer savvy... is there an easy way to connect my new iMac to my tv directly with one cable, like and HDMI cable or something? Or is it much more complicated than this?

If it's a 27-inch iMac, it has a Mini DisplayPort for video output. You need an adapter like this one
[Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (female) Cable for Apple Mac|http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Adapter-female-Cable-Apple/dp/B0025V2VO0/ ref=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258064334&sr=8-1]
From the end of the adapter, use an HDMI cable to go to your HDTV.
However, this is a video output, so it does not carry audio. If you want audio to come from the HDTV speakers, you will need to run a separate cable from the iMac's audio output port (the one for headphones) to the HDTV audio input corresponding to the HDMI input.

    Thank you in advance

What do you want to achieve? If the goal is to use the TV as an external monitor then get a mini display port to HDMI, DVI or VGA depending on the connections the TV has. You can find each adapter at the Apple Store either online or at a store close to you.

  • How to connect my Imac to my HDTV

I have a 2007 aluminum Imac and a 50 inch 1080p HDTV. is there anyway I could connect my Imac to the tv and control it via wireless mouse and keyboard... The rear connections on the tv are 3 hdmi, 2 component, s-video and AV.. Please let me know what is easiest, fastest, most reliable and produces the best picture.. Thanks so much!
Also I might get the new 13 inch macbook pro, what would I need in order to connect that?

I am not familiar with this new mini-DVI to HDMI cable. Sounds interesting. There is a Mac user reporting an issue in trying to use one of these in the Intel-based iMac display forum. He is using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI to HDMI cable plugged into a HDMI port on his plasma TV and nothing is happening. But he is also reporting the same issue with mini-DVI to VGA adapter and an VGA to VGA cable plugged into the VGA port on his plasma TV. So the problem may not involve this mini-DVI to HDMI adapter.
I use Apple's mini-DVI to DVI adapter connected to a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable plugged into the HDMI port on my LG LCD HDTV with great success with my new Early 2009 Mac mini. The Apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter came with my Mac mini and I bought the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable at the Apple Store when I bought the Mac mini. Both are also available from the Apple Store online for US$19 each.
The MacBook Pro has a mini-DisplayPort. Apple also has a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter for US$29. So that could also connect with the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable.
I did Google for a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and there are a few 3rd party venders of this adapter as well.

  • Trouble connecting new iMac to exisiting PC/Linksys network

I just bought a new iMac and am having trouble connecting to my existing Linksys wireless network. My PC connects wirelessly fine, and the iMac connects if I use the Ethernet connection. However, it says I have "Incompatible Security" when I try to use the built-in Airport wireless connection.
My network is WEP encrypted. I use one of the encryption keys for my PC. I was using 10 128-bit hex. Is there anything special or unique I need to do for the Mac? For example, for the Mac do I also use the 10 or 26 character key, or just the "Passphrase" (as described by Linksys)? Searching the net, I have found old posts suggesting I need to use quotation marks or $ sign in front of the key, but that advice seems outdated.
BTW - I am having the same problem with my new iTouch.
    Your help is appreciated.
    null

Thanks for posting back when you found the solution.
Just to close things up as to why this would be a problem:
WEP allows for 4 different keys to be configured. Key 1 is used to encrypt the data sent out from the device (either client or access point). When data is received, either of Keys 1-4 can match what is received.
Since OS X only uses Key 1, if Key 1 on your access point doesn't match, it won't be able to decrypt anything that the access point sends back.
The other keys are very rarely used.

  • How Would The New iMac Compare To My Old PPC G5 Power-Mac?

I'm a bit out of the loop as far as the performance increases since I bought my G5 Power-Mac several years ago and if I'm honest, never really understood them that well anyways...
What I'm wondering is how the new iMac would compare to my old Power-Mac and would it be able to do what I need it to do. Here's what I have now (from my system profiler). A PowerMac PPC G5 (1.1) 2.3ghz Dual CPU. Bus speed 1.15ghz. It also has 4.5GB of Ram... I also have a dual monitor set-up but would obviously get rid of one if I bought the new iMac. The display I would be keeping would be my 30" cinema display. Would I be able to continue to use that monitor without too much hassle in a set-up with the iMac?
Any help, opinions or insights appreciated!

I have a 2.0 GHz dual core (PCIe slots) Power Mac G5 (the +late 2005+ model). It has 4GB RAM and the low-end 128mb NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE. The max is 16GB.
I also have a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo 17-inch white iMac. It has 2GB RAM and ATI Radeon X1600 (128mb) for the built-in graphics. The max RAM is 3+ GB.
Both run Leopard. Both have two displays. I mostly use the iMac currently and another family member uses the Power Mac G5. These two configs feel about equal. Some apps seem to be better optimized for Intel these days. Other older apps are PowerPC-based apps, so the G5 runs those better without the need for Rosetta on Intel. In day-to-day use, I can't say that one is better than the other.
But that's with an older Intel iMac (the low end model even when it was new). For your comparison, the current high-end iMac will undoubtedly be faster. However, with both running Leopard, I don't think the new iMac will be a +quantum leap+ in better performance. Whether the actual difference is worthwhile to you will depend more on how you use your Mac. Once Snow Leopard comes out, with it's better optimization for Intel and more efficient use of multiple processors (and other technical improvements), the story may be different.
With the new iMac lineup, you can use a 30" Cinema display (as an extended desktop) with an adapter off the Mini DisplayPort. It says so on the specs page
    http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
"Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI via adapter."
"Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to a 30-inch display (2560 by 1600 pixels) on an external display."

  • Connecting New iMac to Server 4.0

Have a new MacMini Server updated to Yosemite and Server 4.0.  I believe I have setup the server to provide services via Open Directory, Mail, Messages, Calendars, created Network User accounts and so on. Seems relatively easy, actually.
But, what is the best way to connect a brand new iMac with Yosemite to the server?  A long time ago, I watched some Apple videos that showed an option in the initial OS startup to connect and configure automatically but that seems to be gone. Is there a support document or checklist that shows the best way to connect, step-by-step to the server and have things work?
I'm afraid my initial attempts have been very frustrating -- the client machine says it's connected to the server, but cannot load any user accounts. Mail/Messages, etc., continually ask for passwords and will not work.  Obviously I have missed something!!
Sorry ... LONG time Windows guy helping out his small company (seven clients) to transition to Apple/Mac!!
    Thanks in advance.

After a couple of calls to Apple Enterprise support, this was pretty much resolved.  Issue revolved around my initial choice of hostnames.

Before I buy one, I'd like to know how often the new ones come out because I'd hate to spend all my money on one then a brand new version comes out. I'm not sure if they change the actually iMac (change the design/dimensions) or is it only the software that updates?
I also understand there are lots of options you can select, which impact the price, such as:

With just the monitor would I be able to run windows software as well, such as FL Studio?
So I'm wondering what happens when I get his thing. Do I just turn it on and start using it as I would my MacBook Pro? Do I need to install things, configure updates etc. Will I need system unit or will a hard disk with a lot of space be equal?
I plan to use the iMac for absolutely everything, Adobe Mastercollection, Music Production (FL Studio/Ableton/Logic). I'd like to be able to plug in synths, digital pianos and I also need good sound, can I plug in speakers or anything?
As you can see, I don't know much about the iMac even though I've looked around and read reviews. Thankyou in advance!

  • How to connect my imac to appletv

I'm having trouble connecting my imac to my appletv thats on a LG smart tv. Can anyone explain? I've youtubed it, googled it nothings working.

You need to upgrade to at least 10.8 to use AirPlay: http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion. You can also upgrade to OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) for free on the App Store. You should first make sure that your iMac supports AirPlay, since you still haven't mentioned what year it is. See: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201343.

  • How to connect my iMac G4 to my network, it wont let me something about the password but I connect to a open network???Ask your question.

Hello I have been trying to connect my iMac G4 to my network but I can't. I have a secure network with a password and is not let me in but I can connect to an open network with no password??? anybody can help???

AirPort card in iMac G4 does not support strong WiFi encryption.
I think WPA is the maximum for that WiFi card.
If you have WPA2 in your WiFi network, you need to downgrade (not recommended)or wired connect the iMac G4.

  • How come my new iMac has got iMovie, iPhoto, garageband, but no idvd software?

    hi folks,
new Imac user here. Loving it so far but after spending hours creating a movie on imovies, i come to burn to a dvd and what....no idvd software. Is this right ? My imac is the OS X Lion job.
If this is correct, fine, but does it mean I now have to fork out for ilife 11 which i keep hearing bad things about ?
Or is there another route for me to get my movies on dvd.
I am not totally savvy with system jargon so go easy ha ha !

I just did a search in the App Store for iDVD the only thing that comes up is a tutorial however if the OP goes to

and purchases iLife 11 it comes with:
    iPhoto
    iMovie
    Garageband
    iDVD
    iWeb
Interesting enough that seems to be the only way I can find to get iDVD.

  • How to connect new Macbook pro 2014 to iMac 2010 for a secondary display

I have a new Macbook Pro 2014 and an old iMac 2010. How can I connect them to have an additional secondary display? I thought I would need a thunderbolt cable with a Thunderbolt to Mini DisplayPort adapter but I can't find that. There's lots of options and I don't understand what would be best.
    Macbook Pro 2014
    iMac 2010
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Nathaniel,
Thunderbolt is another way of calling it a Mini Displayport, thunderbolt is just faster and has more usage with other products (i.e. hdds, displays etc.) You can hook up a thunderbolt to a mini-display port because both are the same size and serve the same function. Just don't connect anything to the display port on the iMac other than a computer.

  • How to connect my iMAC to the time capsule(with cable)?!

I bought the Time Capsule Machine and I tried more than 8 times to do the backup.
Always it takes some days and doesn't finish. So, I thought maybe the problem could be the connection without cables. But I don't know how to do it, I tried without success.
    Thank's

Thank you for helping me, but I already tried and didn't work... Maybe I put it on the wrong place, but if I did it, I really don't know where is the wright place...
There are 2 different kind of place to put on the time capsule and only one on the iMac... I tried both!
