How to connect to a 2006 macbook?

seems like this would be simple. but the only physical connection seemingly possible between a 2006 macbook and the 2011 imac is an ethernet cable.
I started transfering user to the new mac, but said it would take 42 hours. I found an old backup harddrive with USB cable and transfered that way. Is there a cable that'll connect a 2006 macbook to the new imac in a better way?
FYI: two different types of firewire connectors.

found a firewire 400 to 800 cable at best buy.

  • Hi I just got my new Apple TV and I cant figure out how to connect it with My MacBook Air (11-inch, Late 2010- Processor  1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) OSX Version 10.8

    Hi
Hi I just got my new Apple TV and I cant figure out how to connect it with My MacBook Air (11-inch, Late 2010- Processor  1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) OSX Version 10.8

Are you referring to mirroring or you just unable to set up homesharing.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

  • How do connect my late 2008 Macbook to a TV?

I want to connect my late 2008 Macbook aluminum to a tv by HDMI, and i was thinking about getting the "Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support" but it will not support audio for my Mac. Any other way I can connect it to the TV?

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
With the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

How do I connect my USB SuperDrive with my MacBookPro?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • How to connect two monitors using macbook pro?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro through which I want to extend the displays to two individual monitors.
The two monitors should show two different windows which is opened through my macbook.
I have observed that macbook has only one mini display port through which I connect to HDMI or to DVI ports in monitor.
So how do I connect another monitor source to my macbook, which ports can help in this situation?
The monitors I have which can supports HDMI,DVI,VGA and DP ports.
Could anyone help me on this issue.
    Thanks.

You can use a USB 2.0/3.0 to HDMI/DVI interface.  You might also consder Thundebolt to HDMI/DVI.
The MBP 13" will support three screens (two external) and the MBP 15" will support four screen (three external).

  • How to connect my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro to my HDTV?

I have a mid 2010 macbook pro with a mini display port. I want to display it on my hdtv. I tried a mini display port to hdmi adapter first but that wouldn't work so then I tried a mini display port to dvi adapter connected to a dvi to hdmi adapter but still no success. Any ideas?

I have your same model and I'm using a mini display port to hdmi when I want to connect right to a TV.  Is it not detecting, or is it a blank screen etc? What TV are you trying to connect to?

  • How to connect my time capsule & macbook to the internet?

I purchased a Time Capsule last weekend to back up all my photos etc.  I was able to set up the Time Capsule with Airport Utility and now have my home network set up, I can easily get everything I need on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009, Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 if that helps?) EXCEPT I can't get the time capsule to connect to the internet.  For some reason whenever I want to access my pictures or the time capsule, I have to connect to the wireless network but if I want to connect to the internet I have to reconnect to my old wireless network.  I have tried everything but just can't get it to work correctly! The Time Capsule light has only ever flashed orange at me...

time capsule should be in bridge mode and plugged into your main router so it is part of the existing network.
Bridge on you Lion version is easy as you can still download and install a real utility.

  • How to connect my G4 to macbook Pro

I have a G4 tower that I would like to network (connect) to my MacPro Laptop. I can set up Sharing to get to my G$, but don't know how to reverse the process. Please give me a step by step direction.
    Thank you.

If the G4’s running Mac OS X, the reverse process is the same as the one you used.
If the G4’s running Mac OS 9, it isn’t possible to use it to log into Mavericks over AFP.

    Mac Book Pro
    Large FLat Display
    Wacom cintiq tablet
Can I have flat display and wacom table at same time?
    Any tip?

    Thank you A Brody,
This is all very helpful to a guy like me.
I guess the first thing I'll have to do is get an ethernet cable. Presumably, the FireWire cable will not be needed now. Correct?
The same questions still seem to apply. I did print out the "Connecting two computers using Ethernet" that you forwarded to me.
    1) But, do I power up both computers before installing Ethernet cable?
    2) After following instructions on the"Connecting two computers....." will an icon appear for the old Power Mac?
    3) After hooking up the Ethernet cable, do I have to re-boot, use the "T" key, to get into the old Power Mac?
    4) After fiddling around on the old Power Mac, how do I get out of there and back onto my i.Mac?
    5) Or, because it would be hooked up via Ethernet, could I simply go back and forth between the two computers?
By the way, after checking out your info on how to identify my old Power Mac, this is the info I've been able to glean, I think:
    The old Power Mac is:
    • A Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)........and therefore, it says, not able to serve as a target computer backup with my i.Mac
    • Apparently made in 1999
    • System, apparently, is OS 8.6 (my i.Mac is OS X 10.3.9...Panther)
    • Model number either M7631 or M7826 (can't find it on the computer)
    • Memory: PC 100 SDRAM, up to 1 GB (don't know how much it has now)
    • I have no idea how much storage is available (i.e. my i.Mac is 74.5 GB (I think)
    Thanking you again

  • How to connect Powerbook 1400 to macbook with Gigabit ethernet

I have a wonderful Powerbook 1400, system 8.6, no cd drive only floppies 2 PCMCIA card slots (which may be both not working, a SCSI HDI-30 ethernet slot.
How can I recover the date on this computer, as i just realised after buying a new Macbook dual core that it has a Gigbit ethernet which is a different slot.
    Can anyone help?
    thanks, Maria

    Maria,
I also still have my 1400; it's in beautiful shape but I never use it anymore.
Since the 1400 did not come with Ethernet or modem, you had to add them via a PCMCIA PC card or install internally an Ethernet card (no internal modem card). I believe there is also a SCSI > Ethernet adapter but this is all more work than necessary. None of the ports on the 1400 are compatible with the MacBook.
I think by far the easiest method for retrieving data is to buy a PC Card Adapter (this fits into the PCMCIA card slot) for $10, then buy a small flash memory card. After you put the memory card in the PC Card Adapter and the Adapter into the card slot, the flash memory card mounts on the desktop as just another "HD" and you drag-copy the files to the "HD". There is no software to install.

However, you will also need a USB card reader for the MacBook. Possibly you know someone with a card reader and they could burn a CD for you.
You could also use your 1400's floppy drive to copy data, then buy a USB floppy drive for your MacBook, but if you have a lot of files, this is cumbersome.
You can buy a used Ethernet PC card but you require the correct Ethernet software plus it may be difficult to get file sharing working with the MacBook, not because your MacBook has Gigabit, but OS 8.6 and Tiger have a difficult time talking to each other.

  • How to connect to a new MacBook Pro ?

My Apple 23" HD Cinema Display comes with 3 connectors : video output, Firewire and USB. I have just purchased a brand new MacBook Pro and I can no longer connect the monitor nor the Firewire. What do I have to do ?

Connect the display's DVI cable to a Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adaptor>
or to the HDMI port with a HDMI(M) to DVI(F) adapter
    <http://ca.startech.com/Cables/Audio-Video/Video-Adapter/HDMI-to-DVI-D-Video-Cabl e-Adapter-M-F~HDMIDVIMF>
You don't have to connect the display's FireWire cable unless you use the display's FireWire ports.  You should always connect the USB cable.
If you need FireWire, you can use a Thunderbolt adapter.
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapto r>
This give you FireWire 800.  For FireWire 400 (used by the Display) you can add another adapter.
