How to control Named Destinations in Bookmarks?

Using Frame 8, Acrobat Pro X.
In the generated pdf, properties of the bookmark show we will “Execute a menu item” and “Use Named Destination”, e.g. G1.1007744. If I choose Browse, a long list of destinations is provided but I have no idea
- what they mean;
- how I can adjust them;
- if I can add any.
Can you help?
Where do I find out more about Named Destinations in a pdf?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Theresa

  • How to generate "named destinations" in PDF

When generating a PDF, how can I get "named destinations" in
my PDF so I can created hyptertext links to it?
    1. question:
I produce several PDFs files, which have links to chapters in
the other PDF. To directly jump to such a chapter, one can use
named destinations in the PDF. How can I tell RoboHelp to produce
    them?
    2. question:
If there is an answer to q1, is that also possible in this
way: I need to generate a Word document first, because I need to do
some manual adjustments. Then I generate a PDF from this Word
document. Going this way, I finally also want to have named
destinations in the PDF. Is that possible?
Any help appreciated a lot, thank you.

    Hi,
You can insert dynamic barcodes into your form using LC Designer.
You should do a search here as dynamic barcodes has been covered by by Steve Walker in detail. For example:
BARCODE 128 - possibility of binding 2 data fields to the barcode
    Paperforms barcodes
    Using Barcode in Acroforms
However one thing to bear in mind is that dynamic barcodes will not work in Reader unless the form has been Reader enabled using LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server product. Option 4 in this summary:
    Good luck,

  • Will Acrobat Reader recognize an HTML bookmark as a named destination?

I have a Word file with bookmarks. I make a PDF from this file. How do I code an HTML link in a different file that will open the PDF at the location of a bookmark.
I asked a similar but maybe less precise question yesterday. The response I received had links to articles that described how to use a named destination. One article said a plugin was needed. The article was for Acrobat 7. I cannot assume readers will have the plugin. An article also described some steps to go through probably with Acrobat to identify the named destinations. This set of steps is not a direction I want to go either. I don't want to identify bookmarks everytime I reprint the file. Maybe the question I am asking is "will Acrobat Reader recognize an HTML bookmark as a named destination?"
The response I received yesterday included the following:
You can possibly use "Named destination" instead of bookmarks.
    To create them: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd6 15109794195ff-7ca7.w.html
    To link to them: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/link-html-pdf-page-acrobat.html
In my HTML file is the following:
    <a href="LinkTestDestinationFile.pdf#nameddest=RevisionHistory">Revision History</a>
RevisionHistory is a bookmark I made in my Word file. The bookmark marks the section Revision History. The link above does not open LinkTestDestinationFile.pdf at the Revision History section. I do not have the plugin suggested in one of the articles mentioned above.

With Adobe Acrobat you can create named destinations.
Bookmarks and named destinations are not the same.

  • Impossible (?) to link to Named Destination/Bookmark in Local PDF from PDF?

Goal: Very simple... in a PDF, click on a link that (a) opens a second PDF on local drive, and (b) navigates to a named destination or bookmark in that second PDF... just like our normal everyday HTML links work, and even Word itself does this.
According to PDF Open Parameters, trial and error with Acrobat (X) itself, and all other articles I've found, this can only be done IF the second PDF is not local but accessed through an HTTP URL on a server elsewhere.
Yet I find this very hard to believe, and think I'm missing something obvious. Any suggestions?
    Thanx.

Actually, it can be done, but it's not very intuitive.
When you create your link and the Action window appears, select "Go to a
page view". Now a floating window opens that lets you set the link. The
tricky bit is that you can now open a different file and set the link there.
If you want to set it to a named destination you need to open that panel and
    double-click on that destination.
Linking to a bookmark is not possible, only with a custom-made script.

  • Bookmarks, named destinations and how to "robust" link to PDF from HTML?

I need a way to link to topics (from an HTML page) within a structured PDF file generated from InDesign, i.e. one that has an interactive bookmarks
panel, that doesn't break the links when the file is updated.
In particular, I don't want to refer to:
    *  page numbers because the document will repaginate when it is updated, breaking existing links
    * named destinations that are numeric as addition/deletion of topics renumbers the named destinations, breaking the links.
Is there any option in InDesign that creates named destinations derived from bookmark titles as that would seem to solve my problem?

I did some more trials, and here is where I am at:
As page-break-after:always; was ignored by PDFGenerator, I used a hack: I wrapped my pages inside div's which have the height of the page, and this seems to work. In addition I had to edit my CSS, and remove the  @media print wrapper around my print specific CSS parts, to get my print media specific formatting inside HTML to the PDF page.
I do not consider this a solution, but more of a hack - but it might work for what we are doing, and maybe it works for somebody else.
But what I am actually trying to do is the following:
We have a systems which creates reports in HTML which can be viewed in a browser, and printed from the browser, now we try to use PDFGenerator, to generate reports in PDF, with a minimal effort ( I know this is a the wrong way arround, HTML is not a language targeted at creating printable reports, but that's what we are doing now, and I think many other people are in the same boat)
Still if anybody has a better solution, please chime in, or tell me why the hack I did is a real bad idea  - any feedback is welcome

  • How do I create a named destination in InDesign?

I want to create a hyperlink from an HTML page that will open a PDF file at a specific point. I'm generating the PDF in InDesign CS5. How do I create the named destination (Objective2) so I can do the following?
    http://preparatorychemistry.com/Bishop_Book_atoms_1_test.pdf#nameddest=Objective2

I also had this question and, seeing no response to your post, submitted my own at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5856231
However, I was told by Adobe that a solution is not available (below). Have you discovered anything to the contrary? I was not able to get the suggested solution by Jongware to work for me.
Having just completed a phone call with Gaurev Sethi of Adobe escalated technical support in which I shared my screen to explain and demonstrate the desire to link from an external URL to a specific location within a PDF file that has been exported from InDesign, it was determined that the desired functionality is not supported in InDesign and has been identified as a limitation of the software.
In researching alternate documentation software that supports PDF export, I discovered that Madcap Software supports this functionality in its Flare product:
    http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare9/Default.htm#Nav_Links/Named_Destinations/Creating _Named_Destinations.htm
Note that linking via URL to a bookmarked location within a PDF is not supported:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/01/tcs-specific/linking-to-a-page-within-a-pdf-and-more.ht ml
More about parameters that can be specified to open PDF files are available here:
    http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
Although the above link is for a previous version of Acrobat, I could find no evidence to the contrary in the current SDK documentation.

  • Bookmark Extraction along with its action either a Page No or named destination

I want to extract all the bookmark from a PDF file along with its action either a page no or named destination.
I am developing application using VB.net. Is it possible using JSO? If yes then how?

I found a solution for it.. with Javascript (JSO) only...
With JSO I was able to find all bookmarks then to find page no of each bookmark I used EXECUTE() method of JSO Bookmark.
On execute() cursor moved to bookmarked page the using JSO.Pagenum I was able to find page number.
This way I was able to extract all Bookmark with Page No..
    Thanks to All...

  • How can I jump to a named destination?

I have separate Framemaker files for sections for which I specified a named destination at title. These sections are imported by reference into chapters of a number of books. Within the book I want to jump for example from chapter 2 to a section in chapter 3. Normally I would use a cross reference, but that does not work with an imported file. I tried to do this with a named destination, but it seems that Framemaker cannot jump from one chapter to another using a named destination. Does anyone know how I can jump from one chapter to imported file in another chapter?
See attached structure drawing: Named destination problem.ppt

It was helpfull but it does not solve my problem. The gotolink
command is also in an imported file. I have all sections in separate
files that are reused accross several books.
So the gotolink I have is for example from the file section 1 to the
file section 2. With the command gotolink section1.fm:destination1
it work when I open the file Section1, but it does not work in the
book where the file section 1 is imported in chapter 1 and the file
section 2 is imported in chapter 2.
When I setup the command for the book gotolink
chapter2.fm:destination1 it works in book 1, but not in book 2,
because it has a different filename for chapter 2 or the section
with the named destination might be in another chapter.
Okay, I should have looked at the PPT. But I understand that you are
    working with "text insets".
When you import some text into another document "by reference" the
text is nevertheless completely copied into the (I call it) container
document — other wise FrameMaker would have a hard time getting the
    formatting and numbering right.
But, the target file name has changed and I know of no way to have
    that fixed automatically by FrameMaker.
In a similar setup I created a FrameScript script program, which
checked all cross-references and changed the target file name to that
    of the container file.

  • How to open PDFs at named destinations with MS-Word hyperlinks?

    Hi forum,
In MS-Word you can create hyperlinks
to open local files, (protocol: file://...)
to open websites or (protocol: http://...)
to go to intern bookmarks or so.
Is it possible to open a local PDF this way at a defined point inside it? For example at a named destination or a bookmark...
In a word file I discuss some different PDFs and compare some issues in these PDFs. And so I want to hyperlink some views in the PDFs to illustrate the discussion.
thx 4 tips an tricks :-)

Yes, I think you're right. I tryed the same in the HTML-protocol and it works: example:
    http://profiroll.fidom.de/pdf/01_Lastenheft_PPA_LH3_8.1_Elektrik.pdf#page=42
It would be nice to find a workaround to use this "addressing" in MS-Office!

  • How do I link to a named destination from a c# application in this version of Reader?

Just like the title says. I can link to named destinations in adobe reader desktop version with no problem, but that same syntax does not work in the touch version that comes from the windows store. I have found no documentation on the touch version. Please help.

I doubt the Touch version offers an API, especially to non-Metro apps.

  • Getting Named Destinations

I am trying to display named destination in my code using this code,
    PDNameTree pdNT = PDDocGetNameTree( pdDoc, ASAtomFromString( "Dests" ) );
I am able to take name tree object from pdf document.
But, I want to display each named destination.
Please help me to take each named destination.
    Thank You,

    Thanks for your response.
I am able to get named destination for Links and Bookmarks using PdViewDest.
But my requirement is, I will create named destinations for all the pages manually.
When I open particular file, I want to get each named destination name and page number for that document, not for bookmarks or links.
I am taking CosDoc for that active document.
    CosDoc cosDoc = PDDocGetCosDoc(pdDoc);
    CosObj cosObj = CosDocGetRoot (cosDoc);
    CosObj cosdest = CosDictGet(cosObj, ASAtomFromString("Names"));
After this how you want me to proceed. Please help me to solve this issue.
