  • How to convert flat file type from DAT to ASC

    hello all
i am trying to download a flat file and trying  to upload it in another program.
for this i am using gui_upload and gui_download function modules.
if i download the file as ASC and upload with ASC there is no problem.
if i download the file as DAT and upload with DAT its giving an exception invalid file type
if i download the file as DAT and upload with  ASC  its giving an exception bad data format.
but in real senario my customer is sending a flat file with DAT type and i am unable to upload it.
    how to solve this problem?

    Hi,
when uploading DAT pass file type as 'ASC' and give HAS_FIELD_SEPARATOR  = 'X'.
For other types see the code below.
    CASE P_RECTYP.
       WHEN 'DAT'.
         MOVE 'X' TO L_FLDSEP.
         MOVE 'ASC' TO L_TYPE.
       WHEN 'ASC'.
          MOVE ' ' TO L_FLDSEP.
          MOVE P_RECTYP TO L_TYPE.
       WHEN 'BIN'.
           CLEAR L_TYPE.
         MOVE P_RECTYP TO L_TYPE.
         MOVE ' ' TO L_FLDSEP.
       WHEN OTHERS.
        MOVE 'X'  TO L_FLDSEP.
        MOVE 'ASC' TO L_TYPE.
    ENDCASE.
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_UPLOAD'
      EXPORTING
       FILENAME                      = LV_FILENAME
       FILETYPE                      = l_type
       HAS_FIELD_SEPARATOR           = l_fldsep

  • How to load flat file containing data(separated by commas) into cube sapbi.

    hi gurus,
please help me with this question?
i have some data in the flat file for example, address but with commas for ex:
h.no:123,colony,area,hyd-59.now i have even other columns in this flat file like customer name,age.....i want to know ,how to load this data into infocube. where in when it comes to address column sap bi takes it as a single column in the generated report.

    Hi Amulya,
To get reports on all ur records save ur flat file in .CSV format -> to do this open ur flat file, save as "filename.csv".
-> CSV is nothing but comma seperator value, sap supports two types of formats 1).csv and 2) ASCII format.
    we prefer .csv format.
check this link for step by step modelling.

  • How to import flat file with date in filename on a regular basis

    Hi,
    Using OWB 11gR1
I have a file that will be delivered to an FTP each night with the date in the filename having the form YYYYMMDD-FILE.txt (ex: 20100326-FILE.txt) that I want to import to an external table.
Now I've set up the import to the external table but am only able to import files that I specify the name for exactly. I've tried pointing to filenames such as "*-FILE.txt" and "%-FILE.txt" but that only results in errors.
It must be possible to automatically import files with different filenames but the same structure, or isn't it? Could anyone help me solve this it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
    For dynamic files you can;
    1. either do the DDL on the external table to point to the file with the changing name
2Copy the file to a fixed name before using the external table/maps
    3. Use the preprocessor to cat/pipe these files for the external table. See the post here http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/2009/06/file_staging_using_external_table_preprocessor.html it shows using gunzip but could simply be doing 'cat' on a bunch of files to standard output
    Cheers

  • How to convert flat file to XMl without key field value

    Hi experts,
I have a input CSV Flat file which has got one HEADER line and Multiple Detail records.
I do not have any key field value to convert this FLAT file to XML using normal file content conversion.
Is there any module or Bean which can be used to convert this Flat File to XML.
Or any other remedy to overcome this problrm.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Saurabh,
    Thanks for the reply.
Ur understanding is perfectly alright.Lets say my file is like below.
    Account Number,Account Name,Currency,Unclear Balance,Account Balance010205000033,VAISHNAVI SALES CORPN,0.00,0.00,350000.00
    010205000034,CHAKKA ENTERPRISES,0.00,-641350.47,8649.53
    010205000035,SEHGAL TRADING COMPANY,338665.00,-220.00,461115.00
    010205000036,SHUBH LAXMI AGENCIES,0.00,0.00,0.00
    010205000037,EMPIRE AGENCIES,0.00,-245.11,0.00
    010205000038,PIONEER AGENCIES,0.00,-696386.00,303614.00
I am not using the first line in the mappiing.
Are you saying that I need to ignore the first line while doing the conversion using Recordset OFFSET ?
Or do I need to make a single structure taking all the fields from header as well as details and while defining the structure I need to ignore the fields from header?
    Please suggest.

  • URGENT : Program to convert flat file to XML file.

    Hello,
Good Morning. I want an urgent program to convert a flat file seperated by '/' to an XML file format and store that in the the application server. If any one has done such a developement, could you please send me the code.
The flat file format is as below :
    72/070414/114147/11973//100-//EA/00000000///04198//RRT0/RC23///////353825001511172/72/070414/123620/11973//1000//EA/00000000///04198//RRT0/RC23///////354762008125236/72/070414/125411/13814//1000//EA/00000000///04198//INV/ID06///////90000000002697/72/070414/140820/11973//1000//EA/00000000///04198//RRT0/RC23///////353057002479718/72/070414/145438/13814//1000//EA/00000000///04198//INV/ID06///////90000000002739/72/070414/145438/11973//1000-//EA/00000000///04198//INV/ID06///////353057002479718/72/070414/150008/13814//1000
It needs to be filtered by removing the '/' and also grouped based on two fields namely store number and transaction number.  The sample XML output required is as below :

  • How to convert from SQL Server table to Flat file (txt file)

I need To ask question how convert from SQL Server table to Flat file txt file

    Hi
    1. Import/Export wizened
    2. Bcp utility
    3. SSIS
    1.Import/Export Wizard
First and very manual technique is the import wizard.  This is great for ad-hoc and just to slam it in tasks.
In SSMS right click the database you want to import into.  Scroll to Tasks and select Import Data…
For the data source we want out zips.txt file.  Browse for it and select it.  You should notice the wizard tries to fill in the blanks for you.  One key thing here with this file I picked is there are “ “ qualifiers.  So we need to make
sure we add “ into the text qualifier field.   The wizard will not do this for you.
Go through the remaining pages to view everything.  No further changes should be needed though
Hit next after checking the pages out and select your destination.  This in our case will be DBA.dbo.zips.
Following the destination step, go into the edit mappings section to ensure we look good on the types and counts.
Hit next and then finish.  Once completed you will see the count of rows transferred and the success or failure rate
Import wizard completed and you have the data!
    bcp utility
Method two is bcp with a format file http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162802.aspx
This is probably going to win for speed on most occasions but is limited to the formatting of the file being imported.  For this file it actually works well with a small format file to show the contents and mappings to SQL Server.
To create a format file all we really need is the type and the count of columns for the most basic files.  In our case the qualifier makes it a bit difficult but there is a trick to ignoring them.  The trick is to basically throw a field into the
format file that will reference it but basically ignore it in the import process.
Given that our format file in this case would appear like this
    9.0
    9
    1 SQLCHAR 0 0 """ 0 dummy1 ""
    2 SQLCHAR 0 50 "","" 1 Field1 ""
    3 SQLCHAR 0 50 "","" 2 Field2 ""
    4 SQLCHAR 0 50 "","" 3 Field3 ""
    5 SQLCHAR 0 50 ""," 4 Field4 ""
    6 SQLCHAR 0 50 "," 5 Field5 ""
    7 SQLCHAR 0 50 "," 6 Field6 ""
    8 SQLCHAR 0 50 "," 7 Field7 ""
    9 SQLCHAR 0 50 "n" 8 Field8 ""
The bcp call would be as follows
    C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsBinn>bcp DBA..zips in “C:zips.txt” -f “c:zip_format_file.txt” -S LKFW0133 -T
Given a successful run you should see this in command prompt after executing the statement
    Starting copy...

    bcp import completed!
    BULK INSERT
Next, we have BULK INSERT given the same format file from bcp
    CREATE TABLE zips (
    Col1 nvarchar(50),
    Col2 nvarchar(50),
    Col3 nvarchar(50),
    Col4 nvarchar(50),
    Col5 nvarchar(50),
    Col6 nvarchar(50),
    Col7 nvarchar(50),
    Col8 nvarchar(50)
    GO
    INSERT INTO zips
    SELECT *
    FROM OPENROWSET(BULK 'C:Documents and SettingstkruegerMy Documentsblogcenzuszipcodeszips.txt',
    FORMATFILE='C:Documents and SettingstkruegerMy Documentsblogzip_format_file.txt'
    ) as t1 ;
    GO
That was simple enough given the work on the format file that we already did.  Bulk insert isn’t as fast as bcp but gives you some freedom from within TSQL and SSMS to add functionality to the import.
    SSIS
Next is my favorite playground in SSIS
We can do many methods in SSIS to get data from point A, to point B.  I’ll show you data flow task and the SSIS version of BULK INSERT
First create a new integrated services project.
Create a new flat file connection by right clicking the connection managers area.  This will be used in both methods
    Bulk insert
You can use format file here as well which is beneficial to moving methods around.  This essentially is calling the same processes with format file usage.  Drag over a bulk insert task and double click it to go into the editor.
Fill in the information starting with connection.  This will populate much as the wizard did.
    Example of format file usage
    Or specify your own details
Execute this and again, we have some data
    Data Flow method
Bring over a data flow task and double click it to go into the data flow tab.
Bring over a flat file source and SQL Server destination.  Edit the flat file source to use the connection manager “The file” we already created.  Connect the two once they are there
Double click the SQL Server Destination task to open the editor.  Enter in the connection manager information and select the table to import into.
Go into the mappings and connect the dots per say
Typical issue of type conversions is Unicode to non-unicode.
We fix this with a Data conversion or explicit conversion in the editor.  Data conversion tasks are usually the route I take.  Drag over a data conversation task and place it between the connection from the flat file source to the SQL Server destination.
    New look in the mappings
    And after execution…
    SqlBulkCopy Method
Sense we’re in the SSIS package we can use that awesome “script task” to show SlqBulkCopy.  Not only fast but also handy for those really “unique” file formats we receive so often
Bring over a script task into the control flow
Double click the task and go to the script page.  Click the Design script to open up the code behind

  • Converting flat file to XML using JMS

    Hi,
I want to convert flat file to xml. My sender adapter is JMS,
Can anyone tell me that how to do that conversion ? Conversion is very simple.
Can we use File content conversion in JMS Sender ? any link or blog ? or any other idea to achieve this ?
    Regards
    Kulwinder

    Hi,
The pdf has been removed from that link i suppose.
Anyways, go through the below help, everything that is there in "HowToConveModuleJMS.pdf" has been mentioned in this...

  • How to upload flat file in planning book

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to upload flat file(e.g xls, csv) in planning book against key figures(e.g forecast) in some characteristics level(e.g brand, sku etc)?
Is it possible to have screen shots or path to follow?

    Hi
Yes you can upload the excel files or flat files in APO planning area. APO planning area is made of characteristics and key figures. All the characteristic information is mainly available in Infoobject. You can upload these excel files in infobojects which will than reflect in planning book. Please find the detail information regarding APO BW building blocks.
    http://help.sap.com/bp_scmv250/BBLibrary/documentation/DPL_BB_ConfigGuide_EN_DE.doc
Please go through the section 2. Setting up APO BW which will tell you all the details steps.
Please remember to activate the infoobject once you load the data.
I hope this will help you.
    Thanks

  • SQL (Injection) Vs Flat File TXT Vs XML (XPath Injection) For Database.

I will have to deal with robust login sessions so I need some advice on what type of database and language I will use.
PHP and MySQL is the choice but I hear that flat file TXT are more faster so I am thinking about Perl.
Perl is very flexiple and have many advantages but why do many folks use PHP.
SQL and XPath injection are becoming more frequent plus MD5 and SH512 have been cracked by some angry folks.
The Perl community is becoming very small so it will be difficult to receive support if I have a specific problem.

In our projects we are extracting SMS messages and
    based on the
MISDN (Telephone number) of each SMS we are fetching
    the corresponding
account information (server name and password) from
    the database through (connecting through)
webservice. The data is stored in the DB which you are accessing through a webserivce and that's too slow and unreliable so you are caching the results in a text file...
That's horrible. The party responsible for the webservice should be fixing it or you should rethink the architecture. All this extra complexity and basically it's just causing problems for you. You'd be better off just accessing the DB directly. I assume this is possible since you know there is a database. In a good SOA architecture, you should not know or care about where the data is persisted.
This webservice connection is slow/unreliable so a
    local copy of the
MISDN number and corresponding account information
are stored/updated in flat files tp prevent repeated
    accessing through webservice.
My question is-which will be faster for accessing,
using txt file or xml or a different format.I don't think it's going to matter much at all for the numbers you site, unless you are running this on a 20 year old PC or something.
But I think you are addressing the wrong problem.

  • Extraction, Flat File, Generic Data Source, Delta Initialization

Extraction, Flat File, Generic Data Source, Delta Initialization
I have couple of questions regarding data extraction.
    1.     If you have Data Source a Flat File e.g. Excel file I know that you have to create Data Source at BW side. How do you upload updates, by selecting Delta Update when executing next Data Load? Do you ever u201Cconvertu201D this Excel file into Application Tables to become SAP Source 
    2.     Can you please give me example of situation where you had to create Generic Data Source? What is difference between Time Stamp, Calend. Day and Numeric Pointer. Which one is most common to select?
    3.     I read somewhere that Generic Data Source does not have Setup Table. I thought that you have to have Setup Table in order to load transaction Data otherwise you will lock the Application Tables. Where am I going wrong im my thinking please?
    4.     What are steps in terms of IP before, under and after Delta Initialization. I belive that you can do two ways:
Full Update - Initialize Delta Process (without Data Transfer) u2013 Delta Update  or
Initialize Delta Process (with Data Transfer) u2013 Delta Update
Am I right? What is most common method and why?
    5.     If you want to add a filed in Data Source after 6 month using it, you want to do it without re-init Delta Queue. You add field in RSA6, then provide info for ABAP to populate new filed (info u2013 name of Data Source, Extract Structure, field added, name of Application Table which contains the field). How does it work now as there is no SetUp table it has been deleted after Initialisation? How does Delta Queue know that it is going to receive data which has been  expanded by one field or it may does not need to know at all?
    THANKSSSSSSSSSs

    Hi,
    1. If you have Data Source a Flat File e.g. Excel file I know that you have to create Data Source at BW side. How do you upload updates, by selecting Delta Update when executing next Data Load? Do you ever u201Cconvertu201D this Excel file into Application Tables to become SAP Source
Once you create Datasource for A flat file extraction then it is file source system specific hence you cont change to Application table source Data source
In info package you can change the source as application server instead of desktop no need to change the DS
    2. Can you please give me example of situation where you had to create Generic Data Source? What is difference between Time Stamp, Calend. Day and Numeric Pointer. Which one is most common to select?
When we don't find any standard extractor then we can go for Generic(if i want information sales along with finance information in a data source then generally we dont get standard one hence we can go for generic DS)
Check the below link for More about generic DS .
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BI/Generic+Extraction
for Delta capturing you can use
Timestamp(if the table has time stamp filed  so it can stamp the last changed record in that table hence it is easy to get delta based on the time stamp)
Calday- (If the table doesn't have the Timestamp filed then search for Calday where you can stamp the delta based on the date when documents are changed )
Numericpointer : If the table doesn't above both then we go for this option where you can the numeric value change stamp )
    3. I read somewhere that Generic Data Source does not have Setup Table. I thought that you have to have Setup Table in order to load transaction Data otherwise you will lock the Application Tables. Where am I going wrong im my thinking please?
Generic datasource nothing but we extracting data directly from the database table without any interface between the application/systems
    Correct
    5. If you want to add a filed in Data Source after 6 month using it, you want to do it without re-init Delta Queue. You add field in RSA6, then provide info for ABAP to populate new filed (info u2013 name of Data Source, Extract Structure, field added, name of Application Table which contains the field). How does Delta Queue know that it is going to receive data which has been expanded by one field or it may does not need to know at all?
Once you add the new field to structure(DS) you will get the data as on date onwards not historical data hence what is the concept of setup table  ( delta records come from the Delta Que not from the setup table )
If you want histaric data to new field then you need to setp table deletion ...etc...
    Hope it is clear..

  • How to load flat file in BPS through Web-debugging

    Hi,
We are working on flat file upload in BPS thru guide 'How to load flat file in BPS through Web'. Can some one guide on how to debug the function modules used while uploading the data.
We have set up the break point in the function modules and also in the BSP page. But when trying to debug while uploading, it is not going to the break point which was set.
Could you assist in setting up the break point.

    Hi,
I  have put an external break-point.
I have hard coded it in the coding of the function module itself.
The code is perfectly working. But, when I want to check for the values of the variables in the F.M during runtime, the break-point is not triggering. Any ideas??
