How to Copy  or Duplicate Video DVD's With Superdrive?

Copying CD's to the harddrive and then duplicating them on blank Cd's is easy. But what about DVD's? I have several DVD's of good movies, TV programs, etc. that I have recorded off of TV. I would like to make duplicates of some of them. If I insert a recorded DVD and have checked "open DVD player" upon insertion of DVD Video in the DVD Preferencdes Panel, then I have no option but to play the DVD once it is inserted. What application could I set the DVD preference to (other than "open DVD player") that would allow me to simply see the DVD icon after inserting it and then "copy" or "duplicate" it?

Disk Utiliy is another way to finish the task. Create a disc image for your source dvd in your harddisk, eject the source dvd and then insert a blank one, then choose burn.
On the other hand, if you need to edit the content of the dvd, for example, remove the commerical from recorded tv programs, you may need to extract the movies from your dvd (which are mpeg 2 encoded) using a free app called MacTheRipper and then use another free app called MPEG Streamclip to do the editing. These free apps can be downloaded from versiontracker.com. After finishing the editing, you may need Toast to burn the movies back to a blank dvd.

    ???
Can not figure out how do take the DVD R which plays fine and load to my macbook pro hard drive...(computer is brand new) than want to make copies of the clip on blank DVDs with no editing... just a straight copy.
    Thanks

    knbcpab,
Is this a mini DVD-R, burned directly in a camcorder? If it is, Do Not Attempt To Put It In Your Macbook Pro's Optical Drive!!!.
Mini disks cannot be read by your Superdrive, and they will get stuck in it, perhaps damaging it in the process. Apple will not cover any such damage.
Disk Utility will image, then produce as many copies as you like. But, doing so with a mini disk will require that you use an external, tray-loading drive capable of handling the mini disk. Of course, you can use your Superdrive as long as the disk is full-sized. With the disk mounted, select it in Disk Utility and click the "New Image" icon in the Toolbar. You need to create a "DVD/CD Master" image.

After you have recorded the video, transfer it to your PC using the instructions in this Apple support document.

From there, open the file in a media player that supports the file format such as Quicktime.

  • How to copy Quicktime Movie to DVD

I took some movie clips on a Nikon L4 camera and saved them to my HP Pavillion as Quicktime movies. I would like to copy them to DVD to play on my DVD player. Can I do this and if so how? Do I need Quictime Pro?
HP Pavillion a1600n   Windows XP   using Nikon Coolpix L4

You will need third-party software that can create a video DVD (QuickTime Pro will not create a video DVD). I'm sure if you search the net for something like "Windows video DVD create" you'll come across numerous such products. You'll need to make sure that any product you choose can import QuickTime movies, or get conversion software that can convert a QuickTime movie to a format your DVD application can handle (QuickTime Pro might do this, but you'd probably find freeware apps that could also do the conversion).

  • How to copy photos or videos from album in iPad to Window7 based PC?

I have created Album on iPad however, I am unable to copy the photos / videos there in to my windows 7 based PC.
    1. All standard help copes photos or videos only from Camera roll.
    2. From iTunes, I do not see any option to sync from iPad to my pc, but it is always from PC to iPad.
    Any help please?

You cannot copy those albums and photos to your PC. Those albums do not contain copies of your photos, but merely pointers to the photos that are in the camera roll. Since they don't really exist in the photos app albums, there is no way to copy them to the PC.

  • How to sync music and video from iPhone4 with iPad mini?

I have music and video on my iPhone4 and I just got my iPad mini yesterday.  Does anyone know how to sync music and video between two devices?

Apple doesn't enable you to copy certain items from your iPhone to your computer e.g.
    - songs that have not been bought in the iTunes store
    - photos from photo album (only allows photos transferred from camera roll)
This is frustrating if you have lost these items on your computer - e.g. accidental deletion, hard disk failure.
Its not that its not possible - just that the functionality is not included in iTunes. Its an example of Apple prioritising revenues over customer experience - hey they can do what they want with their reputation but should take care not to frustrate customers too much.
However the Senuti (free) and PhoneView ($20) allows you to transfer items either way between computer and iPhone. Ive tried both and they work great. These are for OS X and there are many other applications available online for both Windows/Mac that allow you to treat the iPhone as just a plugged in disk too. You can try iPod Photo Liberator (Mac & Windows) iPodCopy (Mac and Windows Versions) Keith's iPod Photo Reader (Mac only).
    Good luck

  • How do i upload a video (dvd) to my mac?

I have a cd of a live performance of mine that I'm trying to save to my computer, however I can't figure out how to burn the disc on to my mac.

What format is the file that was burned onto the CD? You may need to contact whoever made it to find this out. Is it a regular disk that you can play in a stand alone DVD player? Also, I presume you have the rights to use the video, is that correct?

  • How to duplicate a dvd-r with disk utility

I made a home movie DVD+/-R. I actually was able to duplicate this one. I now have another DVD+/-R I'd like to duplicate and don't seem to be able to use the same steps I used for the other one.
I insert disc> quit DVD player> open disk utility> choose the drive (not the DVD altho when the first one failed, I tried choosing the disc itself)> click File> choose New> choose Disk Image from "name of my dvd"> rename disc in Save As field> choose "name of my dvd" in drop down destination field> choose DVD/CD Master from Image Format field> click save. The disc starts up like it's reading it and then I get the following error message box
Unable to create "SuperDrive". (no such file or directory) -- despite the fact I renamed it the error message always default to the drive name
    or
Unable to create "DVD Video Recording". (invalid argument)
    or
Unable to create "SuperDrive". (invalid argument) -- when I choose the VIDEO_TS file in the finder space just under the drop down destination field.
I also tried the (do all steps up to choose "click File") click New Image from the tool bar route, but I end up at the same drop down scenario I got before and still no duplication.
I did it once (the disk image is still on my computer to prove it) but can not for the life of me do it again. I've searched boards on the net, used search here but was told no answer was found for my question, so here I am. I have a MacBookPro running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Nothing has changed since I duplicated the other disc except for the usual updates so I'm at a loss at the moment.

Try the procedure in this article:

  • How to copy movie to a dvd on my iMac

I would like to purchase and download a movie from a website; then burn it to a DVD and then play it on my DVD player
Any suggested procedures for easily doing this?
    Denny

use Finder, select the file you want to burn, put it in a folder, be sure file format is supported by the machine you are using eg mp4. right click on the folder and click burn ... to disc (the dvd must be in the drive). than watch the magic happen...
    Remember
like babowa said about the copyright issue
the dvd player must support the wanted format
if you are not sure if the device supports the desired format put the video on a USB stick and plug it in the machine (most DVD players have USB ports build in)

  • How to copy a file onto DVDs that's too big for a single DVD

The file I want to copy is about 9 GB. I would like to copy it to 2 or 3 DVD's, whatever it takes. But when I go to burn the file and insert a DVD, the system doesn't give an option to burn to more than one disc. What to do?

You need a 3rd party program to do this (unless you want to use Terminal and split).
Toast is pricy, Disco is free.
I use Toast, never used Disco.

  • How to copy my home video to my PC? Or iTunes even?

    Hello,
Very simple; I have my brand new, awesome, battery life sucking iPhone 4S. I upgraded from a iPhone 3G and was super excited because now, I can shoot videos in 1080p @ 30 fps no less. Before, on my 3G, I used an app(iCamcorder) that "hacked" the photo camera as a video cam, in 320 @ 15 fps. It was bad quality, but better than nothing and I could record with sound. Happy I had it when I needed it. Thank you iCamcorder.
All I needed to do to save my videos, was to open (in windows explorer) the iPhone 3G device's folder that was recongnized as a Digital Camera. All the pictures and video in my iPhone 3G's camera roll were there, a simple select all + drag & drop to any folder did the trick.
Now I'm trying to do the same with my shiny new iPhone 4S, I see the photo I took with my iPhone, but no video files.
I verify in iTunes, under the iPhone's panel, in the movie folder, nothing. I setup a folder with a few pictures that I then choose as the picture folder to sync with in the "Photos" tab in iTunes, clic apply, nothing. Clic sync, nothing. So am I stuck watching my sooper dooper 1080 Progressive High Definition videos on my 3.5 inch screen?
Please oh please, Apple fans & professionals & experts or whatever, tell me I'm doing something wrong so I wont feel like I just wasted 700$...
    Thanks...

    Yes...  I know.
I deserve your silence as I should've RTFM.
Indeed, I have checked other threads on the same subject after posting. Followed the link to the manual provided by high level users and all was revealed. It was also very obvious.
Here's an excerpt of the manual, could help lots of PC users out there...
page 78, chapter twelve - Uploading photos and videos to your computer:
Upload photos and videos to your computer:
Connect iPhone to your computer using the Dock Connector to USB Cable.
Mac: Select the photos and videos you want, then click the Import or Download button in iPhoto or other supported photo application on your computer.
PC:Follow the instructions that came with your photo application.
After reading through the set of instructions for the PC, several times... I realized that I already did the very technicaly complex steps suggested. With no success.
So I checked in my AutoPlay settings to see if something was up...  Strangely, even if I had access to the iPhone's folder in Windoze Explorer, the device was not recongnized like my old trusted iPhone 3G in the AutoPlay settings.
I went into iTunes, unchecked the option of launching iTunes when the device is connected, applied the change, closed iTunes and unplugged the iPhone.
Back in AutoPlay settings...I simply unchecked the "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices", saved, plugged the iPhone, went back in AutoPlay settings, re-checked the box and the iPhone 4S was there.
I gave it a "Always Ask" command, saved again and yes, it works.
I now have access to my awesome HD videos.
I'm not 100% sure that this is why it works, maybe it was because iTunes prevented Windows to recongnize the device, or maybe Windows AutoPlay is crap... But yeah. Whatever, works.
Lesson learned, always read the manual, even if there's nothing in it, it might give you an idea.
Now, let's go back to reading through thousands of threads about OS 5.0.1 draining the battery even faster than before. But thats another story.
    Cheers people.
