How to create an eye opening effect?

I am helping my students with a video.  They want to start with a black screen then apply an effect of some sort that looks like an eye is opening from being unconscious or asleep so the video is a little blurry at first.  I know how to blur, but I'm not sure how to make the eye opening transition happen.  It would be cool if you could see the video in the eye and have it zoom to full screen, but I'm not sure if that is possible in Premiere.  Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated!  Thank you!

The convention for indicating someone regaining consciousness depends on the point of view. Is the audience in the victim's head or are we watching their face? If we're in his head, a slow fade up to a blurry image is all that is required to communicate to a viewer what is going on. A simple split vertical wipe , perhaps with with some clever masking as suggested by Kevin, is possible. The addition of a wipe, however, is an affectation; it's only justifiable in the context of the rest of the film's effects and style.
> It would be cool if you could see the video in the eye and have it zoom to full screen, <
This describes the reverse POV; we're watching the person recover. Kevin's wipe works for this and you can place the video, which I assume is the sphericaly distorted image of the room or environment as it would be reflected in the cornea, on top of the image with Premiere or After Effects. You will need to track the image, though, to nail it to the eyeball.
The questions raise more questions about the storyline and the style of the production than it does about technique required to pull it off successfully.

  • How to create a "fast forward" effect?

    Hi there,
I want to create a fast forward effect of a section of video that I have. I have speeded up the section to 2000% normal speed, and added a noise effect. That looks ok.
Now, ideally, I would like to perfect the effect by adding the classic ">>" fast forward image, flashing on and off, and also by having the audio sounding sped up also.
Can somebody please offer some guidance on how to go about that?
    Thanks very much guys,
    Mike

  • How to create the same title effects as in this video?

How do I create the same title effects as in this video?
By titles I mean the ones that say Exterior Front, Exterior Back, Foyer, etc...

I don't know how to have the black bar slide in, then have the word slide in, then have both slide out.
    I'm totally new at Premiere.

It didn't appear that the words were sliding in. Rather, they were being wiped on.
Information on using the Titler is here.
Since you're new to Premiere Pro, you should begin at the beginning and work through the basic learning materials for Premiere Pro.

  • How to create the "300" Movie Effect in FCP

Would be eternally grateful if someone could tell me how to create the 300 movie look in Final Cut Pro. I've scoured the Interwebs for a tutorial with no luck.

I think it's not as hard as people think, it just looks intimidating because there are no popup windows. Everything in the interface is on the top of the rooms. Just think if FCP had things this way...
I learned to use color in a class in Cupertino (I'm a certified trainer in Color and FCP) but gotta say, it's just not "Mac-like" in it's interface. It was originally written for Unix as was Shake, so they look similar... but they really aren't that hard to learn. The certified training course in Color is only a 2 day affair. I could teach anybody color on a one on one in one day. Doesn't make them a colorist just as learning FCP doesn't make them an editor... but the buttons? yep 1 day.
FCPs full training is 8 days for full level 2 certification, and even then, it doesn't cover everything you could do in FCP...
I teach a 15 week course in FCP and STILL don't have time to teach it all. So what's easier to learn? Color.

  • How to create a truly open wireless network on CT5760 controller?

    Hi
We have a 5760 setup and a mix of 3702 and 1142 access point.
But, no matter what I do, I can't create a really 'open' network... I mean a non-restricted, open wireless network. Like what you get when you buy a home 50$ access point.
Even after disabling all restriction, clients still can't connect directly to one another.
I need to create this SSID for an experiment in one of our labs and they want all their options open... including multicast...
So, my question is: Can I make a super smart network setup to do a simple wireless network?
    Thanks guys!

    Hi all,
I tried your suggestions but unfortunately it is not working... after associating two clients to that SSID, they can't reach each other by PING. (which worked when both were connected to a simple home router).

  • How To Create a Drunken POV Effect?

    hello,
i am making a point-of-view 3d video and i would like to know about how i could make an effect that will show that the one that we are seeing through his eyes, is drunk.
i am searching for something that will show blurry, slow rem and generally, something to show you are totally drunk .
    thanks, a lot....!!!
p.s. no matter what the version of your after effects, tell me..

As David said, this is a very subjective matter and it really depends on how you want it to look and feel.  Do you want it to look slapstick like a silent film or serious?  Perhaps some examples might be useful in illustrating what you want.  In the meantine, I'll post the ones that popped into my head.
If you're after slapstick, then Edwin S. Porter's "Dream of a Rarebit Fiend" from 1906 is a gem of early cinema that uses some very interesting in-camera multi-exposure effects to create a drunken feel.  This could be re-created very easily in After Effects, especially the POV/Long Shot that happens at approximately 1:16.
You could do this by just simply overlaying two wobbling camera shots or using the wiggler plug-in in After Effects like so:
Or, if you're going for more serious look, then I would suggest watching Gaspar Noe's film, "Enter the Void."  The entire movie is a floating POV that spans multiple characters, spaces and time.  It also depicts a lot of substance abuse, including but not limited to alcohol.  One of the things that I think adds to the uncanny realness of the film are the sporadic eye blinks that occur throughout the movie.  This could be recreated by quickly animating 2 black solids over a couple frames.  You could also speed this up or slow it down depending on your character's drunkness.
Also, you said you're making a 3D video.  Are you talking about stereoscopic 3D or are you just making 3D layers in After Effects?  If it's stereoscopic 3D then playing with the interocular distance and the camera convergence might yield some interesting results, but I'm not sure it would seem drunken.
Otherwise, I'd just experiment with the different effects mentioned earlier.  Again, depending on what you're after, I'd also add CC Wide Time to the list.

  • How to create a rollover button effect in Captivate 7?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Captivate 6 to Captivate 7 and am curious to know how I can create a rollover state for a SmartShape button. Basically, let's say I have a SmartShape being used as a button. What I want is to have the button have a glow effect and a shadow effect each time the mouse is hovered over it. Is there an easier way than having two objects on the slide -- one as the normal state and one the mouse hoever image. What I'm thinking is that the mouse hovered state image will have it's 'Visible in Output' set as unchecked and I can use an Advanced Action to show the object on mouse hover. Perhaps I can have the mouse hovered state image as a rollover SmartShape too?
Nonetheless, this looks like too much work. If I have 10 clickables on the page for which I want rollover effects, I would need to have 10 additional objects with their rollover states -- just seems like too much, but perhaps that's the Captivate way. Or I am I missing the obvious?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sean

Most people would say the easiest way to achieve what you are talking about would be to just create your own custom image button in a graphics editor and give the Over state image having the glow effect that you want.
If you decide to go that route, this tutorial describes the process of creating an image button:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate/create-custom-image-buttons
Another possibility is that you can use the Infosemantics Event Handler widget to trigger an Apply Effect action and use the Glow filter as the effect.
However, this may require some tweaking since it's not that easy to time effects that are applied via an advanced action.

  • How to create a Zoom like effect?

    Hello,
I have a Pane right now that I am drawing lines inside of. Its actually drawing coordinates coming back from my hardware device (a cnc controller).
What I would like to be able to do is mouse wheel in (or out) and only see a portion of the pane. Scaling does not seem to fit my need. Perhaps there is nothing out there like this? I am sorry if this is not clear. Here is a picture of my GUI.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/rileyporter/8451829160/in/photostream
The pane is the red dashed outline. I would like to place my mouse say over the top of the green line... Mouse wheel up and have the red dashed lines stay where they are at, however only seeing the top of the green line filling the whole red dashed outline. I am not sure what / how to achieve this effect.
    Does that make sense?

Scaling does not seem to fit my need. Why not?
Can you describe in more detail what you tried, how you implemented it, how it behaved and how that behaviour differed from what you need?
Perhaps supplying a simple, sample test case of executable code as well might help get your question answered.

  • How to create a spray foam effect?

    Hello
I am trying to create a foam fire extinguisher effect.  My video depicts a woman miming with a fire extinguisher (spraying back and forth with the nozzle) and now I am being asked to supply the foam ("fix it in post").  I have created a motion tracker for the nozzle and have tried various emitters with only limited success.
Do any of you Motion gurus have a secret recipe for a spray of foam?
    Thank you!

Try: Content > Blur 11 (or one of the others) >Apply
    Add Emitter
    Set 3D
set Lattitude to 90 degrees; Longitude 0; Emission Range about 30
    Check face camera
    Birth rate: start around 75
Life around 8 or so?  (after you scale the effect to fit, set it high enough to go as far as needed)
    Set speeds rather high (3500?)
    Spin Randomness if you like
Use Properties to orient (and Scale) the emitter in your scene [optionally, resize the Blur image smaller].  Start with Rotation X around 110 (should be streaming at a slightly downward direction); Rotation Y for left/right motion. You should be able to figure out the rest.
You can also add a Gravity behavior (affect subobjects) set quite high (start around 2000) to pull down the end of the emitter.
If you need it to "stick" places, investigate the Attracted To behavior  (in Simulations—and use "null objects" [opacity 0] arranged in your scene.)
Cross your fingers, hope for the best

  • I must be missing something...is there a video that teaches how to create, save and open a session?

I just don't seem to get it. Opening an old session seems difficult if you can't remember the specific name. Files in those sessions are not saved it seems unless you save each one individually. (Am I wrong here) Can someone help this early morning radio guy...I must be missing a step but I can't figure it out.

I have that problem sometimes, too. Personally I put it down to my age!
Files in those sessions are not saved it seems unless you save each one individually. (Am I wrong here)
Audition won't let you close a session with unsaved files without putting up a warning about it - and you get an option to save all of them. By default, files get put in the {session name}_Recorded file with the sesx file (the session information) in the root folder. In there as well you can get Bounced file folders, and also one for mixdowns. When you first create a session, you get to choose the path you use, and everything else just occurs in a structure beneath that, which you can add to if you want. Whenever you need to save things, you get a browse option as well - worth using that first.
I really don't think it's that difficult, and the new scheme (yes it's not quite like the previous version) seems to work fine. With the best will in the world, Adobe can't compensate for anybody's amnesia though! Since there isn't a particular limit on what name you give your sessions, then the best thing to do if you're likely to forget is to give them longer, more meaningful names - and make sure that the folder they're in has the same name. Also, try to keep a relatively flat folder structure - in other words, don't have them nested several layers deep in a huge tree structure - that never helps.

Must it be in Photoshop? It might also be in Illustrator, to mention an obvious alternative.

  • How do you create a mirror image effect on imovie 2014?

All the tutorials online show how to create a mirror image effect on imovie 2011, however there are none showing how to do it on the current version.

You can't do this in iPhoto.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Preview, already on your Mac.
    Seashore (free)
    _[The Gimp|http://www.gimp.org/macintosh>_ also free
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    [Pixelmator|http://www.pixelmator.com> ($60 approx.)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
