How to debrick a WRVS4400N V2 Router?

I've got a WRVS4400N V2 Router that just keeps rebooting itself. It powers up, the diag red LED stays lit, it gets part way through the boot process and reboots itself. I would like to try to reflash the device, but don't know if this is possible in the condition that it is in. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello Mr. Cianflone,
Usually the red led flashing indicates a hardware issue. In that case, I would recommend you a factory reset and if the problem persist. Please contact our Cisco support center and open a case.

I have it connected with see as in pic i connect from my router Internet port to wan port and the ethernet lan port to the ethernet lan port on verizon fios and no work please help...

OK, so with this, we have a few options. You appear to have a MoCa connection to the ONT, hence the coaxial cable being present.
1: The ActionTec can be bridged to the Valet router. This will not require any additional cabling, however it will require a small amount of work to have working. You will also require the ActionTec still in the mix, even though it will not be acting as a router anymore with this configuration.
Visit http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 and look at Option 4. There is a thread linked that will allow you to set up the ActionTec as just a MoCa bridge, and will pass the Public IP to your router. You will, in order for this to work once the ActionTec is bridged, need to connect the cable from your Valet router's Internet port, to the ActionTec's LAN port and nothing else goes to the ActionTec. From this point, your Valet should run as your primary and everything should connect through your Valet. If you are adding another router, a Netgear N300, you should perform the LAN to LAN setup, which we will talk about once you've got the Valet working correctly. LAN to LAN configs require a custom setup, so do not set up the Netgear for now.
2: This is my preferred method, which would be to run an Ethernet cable to the ONT. Option 6 in the FAQ. This will require spaking to Verizon to have them move your ONT to Ethernet, but once they do this, you can disconnect the Coaxial Cable from your ActionTec router, and plug in your CAT5/CAT6 cable from the ONT to the ActionTec's Internet/WAN port. Use the ActionTec to ensure everything is working after the switchover, and once off the phone, log into the ActionTec, perform a DHCP Release, and then prompty power off the ActionTec. Once this is done, plug the CAT6 cable into your Valet router's Internet port. You should from this point, be able to connect to the Cisco, and if the DHCP Lease was broken successfully, the Cisco should begin serving up your Internet connection. If it does not, leave the Cisco powered off for a few hours to break the DHCP lease, and then power it up. If the Valet does not work, still, give the Valet a factory reset and set up this router again, with the Ethernet cable from the ONT connected to it.
I would just take a good luck at the FAQ linked above again, and see what would work the best. Easiest thing to do is to get the ONT moved to Ethernet, which allows you to eliminate the ActionTec unless you need it in the future for TV service, and also allows you to use any router with ease.
Once the Valet is up and running and holds your Public IP address from Verizon (use http://whatismyip.com/ to determine this) , and also serves up IPs to devices on your network, post back and we can help you set up the Netgear. If you have any issues while setting this up, fall back to the ActionTec. It's factory reset will work without configuration needed, regardless of you being on Coax or Ethernet.

But isn't the MacBook Pro connected to the modem and being used as the router? You can only share an Ethernet connection wirelessly. You only check the box to share the Ethernet connection to Wi-Fi. Do not check any of the other boxes. You select Ethernet from the dropdown menu as the connection you will share. Your preferences should look like this:
The only difference will be that yours will show just Ethernet, not Ethernet 1.

  • VPN via WRVS4400N-EU router

    Hi,
I would like to buy a WRVS4400N-EU router, please let me know if the VPN connection between this router and client PC requires a dedicated VPN Client Application to connect or just windows wizzard wihout any other application.
    Thanks.

I think currently not. It think it does not support Windows 7 nor any x64 at the moment. I think they are working on that. But you may want to check the Cisco Small Business Support community. The WRVS is now part of Cisco Small Business and supported over there. You also find some Cisco people over there which may be able to give you the latest status of QuickVPN on Windows 7 and x64.

  • Why do I need a hardwire for my WRVS4400N wireless router?

I am not very technically inclined.  Plug and play is my way.  So when I got my first router (a linksys) i plugged in the ethernet cables and voila!-----internet access as well as connectivity for my xbox 360, ps3 and Wii.  The people rejoiced.
Times change.  I was happy with my last Linksys hard-wired router, so when I finally got tired of all the wires laying around I went Linksys wireless.  BEST BUY told me the best wireless/hardwire router around is the WRVS4400N.  With this router I can have my 2 360's wireless as well as my pc.  The Wii and PS3 along with my wife's computer are hardwired.  There is also a hardwire going from the router to the Comcast cable modem.  Plug and play this, that and the other thing and voila!-----internet and gaming galore!  Once again, the people rejoiced.
That is, until, I decided to make my wife's computer wireless.  The people rebelled.  Once my wife's pc went wireless (like my two 360's and pc),  I lost all connectivity.  No logging on to the playstation network, XBOX live, Wii surfing, and no internet access.  After many hours of turning off this, resetting that and plugging/unplugging the other thing, we finally figured out how to keep the people happy--one of the pc's has to be hard-wired to allow everything else to work (internet access, gaming, etc.).
So the people are happy, but the king is not as his kingdom is bound by the tyranny of one ethernet cable.  Not to mention the fact that his wireless signal is unsecured.
This makes no sense to me.  Why do I need one of the pc's to be hard-wired just to get everything else to work?

Trying to download firmware from this go_____ed company is like trying to pull teeth!  I mean, w_f?!  Are they trying to lose customers?
I found answer ID 4030 and under step 2 it told me "to go to the Linksys download page, click here and verify the model and version number of your Linksys product."  I clicked on the link and that took me to "Support and Services."  I entered my model number where appropriate and that took me to some kind of small business section!  Small business?!?!?  I'm a bloody home user, not some f____ng businessman!!!!!
Anyway, I click on this link:  Cisco Small Business (Linksys Business Series) software and firmware downloads (I know it says Small business, but where else was I supposed to go?  I mean, this is where Support and Services sent me).  That link took me to Support>Download Software.
Under "Support>Download Software>Select a Software Product Category" I clicked on the Router Software link (which had a padlock icon next to it).  They wanted me to login again.  So I try, but I keep getting repeated (and erroneous) login errors telling me I entered my username and password incorrectly.  I checked my username and password many times.  No problems with my username or password.  Thus, a dead end there.
I went to the "Support>Download Software>Software Search" and entered the model number of my router.  I clicked on this link:  Download Software for Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router - VPN V1.0 & V1.1 : wrvs440....  Guess what?  They wanted me to login AGAIN!!!!!  So I try, but I get the same login error messages I got before!!!!!  Je___ _______ ____st!  Another dead end!
I am at my wits end here.  Getting some kind of firmware for my router to work properly should not be this f____ng difficult!  I don't even know how to access my router's web user interface!
Any other suggestions before I finally say goodbye to Linksys/CISCO?  Because I mean after this b______t experience, the next time I need some type of router or modem or something along those lines, I'm gonna think twice about going to Linksys/CISCO.
P.S.  Sorry about my edited language, but if you had to go through what I did, I believe you'd be just as frustrated as I am.  I spent around $250.00 for this router and it doesn't even work right!!!!!

  • HOW TO SET UP A BELKIN ROUTER AS A WDS

Does anyone have an idea of how make a belkin wireless router into a WDS. Airport utility cant or wont see my Base station so Im thinking I have to do throught the Belkin Web wizard. Im trying to extend my network with the aid of an Airport Express station and the nice people at the apple store told me this would not be a problem, but it is turning out to be one,

    Hi Stephen,
Please see my earlier questions on a similar subject re WDS functionality in non AAPL environment with Airport Express. I was advised similarly by a dealer that the solution could be found with Airport Express. Unfortunately it does not seem so. Maybe AAPL need to put out an APB on the subject to their dealers!

  • Not very relevant, but how do I replace my old router with a new one?

Recently I got a new router and I don't really know how to install it. When I first moved into my house, the guys from COX (my local internet service provider) had to come in, plug in the modem and router, go outside to the electrical box, flick some switches in there, and finally got my router working.
I'm afraid that if I unplug the wires connected to my old router and plug it into my new router, I might reset everything and the COX guys have to come again and all that.
So how do I replace the router without causing chaos?

By reading the user manual that came w/your router, contacting the manufacturer and/or visit their customer support/troubleshooting website.
