Now all is clear thanks to everyone! xD... I'll think about upgrade to 8800 series... any suggestion under 350$? what about eVGA 8800GTS 320MB, 8800GTS 512MB, 8800GTS 640MB? another question will be..., my PSU Cooler Master will work with this cards or what PSU would u recommend? thanks a lot
512MB GTS version is a fastest one from all listed. Suggestions here:

  • How to disable onboard video on KM4M-L?

Does anybody know how to disable the onboard video card of the KM4M-L?  I tried just plugging in another AGP card, but it doesn't work.  I've gone through the bios, but can't find any reference to the onbard video.
Another question I have is which card is faster, the onboard video or my old Viper V770 with 32MBs of ram (I know, it's ancient!)
Thanks in advance for your help.

The viper but not by much. The o/b AGP is disabled automaticly but your problem is your board only supports AGPx4/1.5v cards.
Have a read through this thread (it's a P4 board but the same applies).

  • How to disable onboard video chip (ms6337)

    Hi all.
    My mainboard is MS6337(815Epro , bios version:1.4)
I've bought a new videocard ,so I want to disable the onboard video chip.
    Thanks for any help .

I don't really have anything to compare with  :(
I would need another i815E board to see if there is supposed to be a change at all.
My guess is that since there is no 3D engine in the integrated VGA core you need very little memory bandwidth to run it:
    1024*768 @ 85 FPS 24bit = 1024*768*85*4=255MB/S
The RAM is capable of 1066MB/S, but the PIII CPU never uses that anyway so there is no bandwidth conflict between the CPU and VGA.

  • K9N SLI Platinum MS7250 ver1.1 ... need help with Windows 7 install

    Hello,
Having an intermittant issue with Windows 7 32bit.  During startup Windows 7 gets stuck at the logo screen.  Not always though.  Every 7-8th reboot it will make it past and go all the way into Windows 7.  I've tried all sorts of combinations of "ebabling/disabling".  This system ran XP professional for 3 years without any issues.  Currently, I have the most luck by connecting the keyboard and mouse to PS2 and leaving USB disabled.  This may not be the issue though.  Once I got Win7 to boot I performed driver updates etc.
If someone has suggestions please let me know.  I'm about to try the USB bios flash but have never done it before.
    Thank you,
    BK
    CPU:   AMD 64 x2  5000+
RAM:   4GB Patriot Viper Series  -- set to 2.1V per specs, 800MHz, setup in Dual Channel mode
    Video:  NVidia GeForce 7900GS
PSU:    600Watt  CoolerMaster ATX12V   12volt rails push around 18amps and I'm using the additional power port for power to the video card
Bios ver:   1.3  (this is what shows on the splash screen at startup however CPUID shows 080014 - not sure what that means)
    Motherboard:  K9N SLI Platinum MS7250 ver1.1

    Hi Guys,
    Thank you for the replies.
    -  Yes it is a fresh install of Windows7 on a drive that originally had XP Pro
    -  If I boot into safe mode it does go into Win7 most of the time.
    -  I posted on the MSI tech support page (http://support.msi.com/index.php) and the response was to upgrade the BIOS.  What do you think?
    -  I've been using this graphics card for three years and is nowhere near as powerful as what's out there now.  In fact all of the components are three years old except the RAM
    -  I tried the old RAM (2GB Corsair) and it also had the same issue.  Even at default RAM settings or otherwise.  Now I'm back to the 4GB Patriot Vipers.
    -  What is this capacitor problem people are referring to?  Is it a problem specifically on this model board?
    Thank you..

  • Vista Beta 2 (v5472) + K9N SLI Platinum

Has anyone managed to get Vista installed from scratch with the "K9N SLI Platinum"?
    I tried, 32bit and 64bit. both failed.

I got Vista Beta 2 32-bit installed on K9N Ultra + 4200+ X2, but because of the poweroff-issues of K9N-series, Vista was really unstable. Well, my mobo is RMA'd now, so let's see how's gonna work with the new revision.

  • Disable onboard Video

I have a onboard GeForce 6150SE, nForce 430, I want to change to GeForce 8400, My computer won't detect the new card, I changed bios to 16X and still won't find it, how do I disable onboard card and what do I need to change for the new one to load?- Do I need to change legacy boot?

I finally fixed it.  After flashing back to the newest bios, I did a hard CMOS clear and booted with just the mouse and keyboard plugged in to the top USB plugs (no LAN or audio hooked up) and it allowed me to disable it finally.
Every motherboard can disable onboard video... Just because it is part of the 790GX chipset doesn't mean it can't be disabled.  There is some sort of bug I don't even know how to reproduce for this motherboard.
edit: after saving and restarting it took away the disabled option and only went back to UMA or UMA+Sideport.  MSI engineers and/or bios team fails hard.  This is the only board I've ever seen act this stupid.

  • K9N SLI PLATINUM low data transfer rate

Hi, (sorry for my pour english) I had to go back to Winxp native SATA/IDE drivers and my pc crash & BSOD problem it's gone! :D (BSOD when i install some programs or some games, listening music and moving data at the same time, etc.) now i'm available to execute multitasks without any troubles. But now the transference it's quite poor  , I think this is an easy and temporary solution for this big problem.
I bought my PC on 2006 and the Windows XP drivers are from 2001, aren't new Nvidia/MSI drivers to fix this annoying problem?
    Thanks.

    NX7900GT

I've got nearly the same problem, but a little worse. My data transfer rate seems very slow for a 100mb network and if I start copying files over the network, after only a couple of megs I lose connectivity to the network completely! I've removed the network cable and windows notices this, and when I put it back in windows also notices the change, but the green and orange lights on the port itself stay on solid. If I reboot windows everything comes back. I don't have problems browsing the web, seems to only happen when the ethernat port is running close to full load (for the connection speed of 100mb as apposed to 1gb).
Anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest drivers, the latest bios and I've tried disabling on of the network ports in the bios but his didn't work.

HEY GUYS FINALLY GOT A ANSWER FROM MSI Co.
According to this best thing is RMA..
    Dear Kamal,
We have fixed this issue by changing C565 from 100pF to 220pF. All the stock had been reworked, and we have informed all the MSI™ Distributor locators.
So please get your MB for RMA.
As to the RMA, The normal procedure is to contact your reseller (the place you bought the board from) for repair/exchange , If the reseller for some reason like bankrupt cannot be contacted, then contact MSI distributor http://www.msi.com.tw/program/contact/where2buy/ or MSI office near your place http://www.msi.com.tw/program/about/w2b/index.php
    Sorry for any inconveniency.

  • Netvista 6648 and NVIDIA graphics / disable onboard video?

    Hello,
I recently acquired a Netvista 6648 PIII machine, which I intended to put to use as a MythTV frontend. The system is equipped with a PCI riser. To provide TV-Out functionality, I purchased a simple PCI (not PCI-e) NVIDIA card. I have a similar model in another frontend of mine, which has been working great for some time at this point.
Unfortunately, the machine seems to not want to allow the graphics card to be the default output device. In the BIOS, there is an option, which is selected, to 'prefer PCI.' However, the VGA-out of the onboard Intel chipset is never disabled and/or the PCI graphics card is never enabled.
lspci reports a video device plugged into the bus -- any thoughts?

I finally fixed it.  After flashing back to the newest bios, I did a hard CMOS clear and booted with just the mouse and keyboard plugged in to the top USB plugs (no LAN or audio hooked up) and it allowed me to disable it finally.
Every motherboard can disable onboard video... Just because it is part of the 790GX chipset doesn't mean it can't be disabled.  There is some sort of bug I don't even know how to reproduce for this motherboard.

  • MSI K9N SLI Platinum - SATA not hot-swappable?

can i get a confirmation that K9N SLI Platinum motherboard does NOT support hot-swapping the SATA drives. I switched to this board for the AM2 socket and now i am not seeing the removable drive bays as hot-swappable (ie. no green arrow down by the clock). maybe i am missing a bios setting?

I check two machines today and one is just fine using the removable trays and any drives we put in there show up in the 'safely remove hardware' tool. the other machines does NOT detect any drives inserted while the machine is powered on and something else - under the 'policies' tab the top two choices ('optimize for quick removal' instead of 'optimize for performance') are greyed out but there is an option below them that i can check and uncheck (i cannot remember the exact title of this option).
I assume you are trying the same drives when you swap the removable trays between the two machines.  Some drives have a jumper that has to be removed to enable SATA II operation, so if they aren't the same physical drives you might want to check that.
I think the stuff below the greyed out area in your 'Policies' tab is a check box that enables/disables write caching.  You might want to try checking/unchecking that.
Also, you should check out the IDE/ATA Controller selection in the Device Manager.  Take a look at each instance of controller that shows up there.  SATA controllers actually a primary and secondary channel and each channel has a master and a slave drive, just like old IDE controllers.  Look at each tab on both machines and make sure all of the drive's features are set identically on these tabs.  Sometimes Windows can try to outsmart you. For example, I have an SATA II Maxtor drive that has its transfer mode downgraded to SATA I by Windows (there is a little yellow triangle with a '!' in the middle of the lower part of the panel).  The help balloon for this arrtibutes it to 'excessive transfer errors.'  I haven't tried to chase that one down yet, however.
As far as setting the machines up the same way, sometimes the sequence of driver installations can have an effect.  For example, a RAID driver installed during Windows setup using the 'F6 - install other driver' option can behave differently from one installed with the Device Manager 'Update Driver' function.
Sorry I can't be of more help here.
Maybe someone else in this forum is a bit more knowledgable on the subject.

  • K9N SLI Platinum reboots while playing games

    Hello,
    System config
    Athlon 64 3800+ x2
K9N SLI Platinum (Bios version 1.1)
    2 * 1024 ocz 6400 gold memory
    80 gig sata 1 drive
    nec dual layer burner
    Xfx 7600 gt xxx
    floppy
    PSU Coolmax AP-450 (CX-400)
The system is stable when I browse email and such, but as soon as I play games I'm getting reboots. Blue screen of death a couple times. I bought a couple more fans for my case (waiting to see if it makes a difference when it arrives). It may be getting to hot. I have been reading and perhaps the PSU is not good enough or compatible. I haven't checked the memory yet, But i would think that it would reboot consistantly not just in games if that were a problem. Does anyone have a solution for me?
    Thanks,
    LTBob

I had the same problems as you have.
The fix I did was, downloaded the drivers for AMD dual core processors from the AMD website.
Make sure you have your RAM set to 2.1V.
It's nothing to do with the PSU.
"It's nothing to do with the PSU."
cant agree, there is alot of issues with the same symptoms. it may crap or overload PSU also.

  • K9n SLI Platinum + 4x1GB = Cold

Got som problems running my K9n SLI platinum with 2x VS2GBKIT667D2 (= 4x1GB dimms)
With 2x1GB DIMMs , it works fine, in any DIMM slots.
But when i put in all 4 of them I got Major Freezing problems.
    Memtest86+ works fine.
But in XP it freezez, in Vista it freezes.
Trying to install Vista with 4GB it freezes before the installation program even starts..
    Any helpfull thoughts?

V-ICE, there are at least 3 more people (myself included) who are having this "HT sync flood" error. All of us have K9N motherboards with V1.7 BIOS:
    - K9N SLI Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (V-ICE)
    - K9N SLI Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (TomMe)
    - K9N4 Ultra-F + BIOS 7310v17 (zzkey)
    - K9N Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (Grawp)
I think there is a problem with those BIOS versions. I've had 3 K9N SLI Platinum boards, never had that error before. Only with my latest board + v1.7 BIOS.
Have you had any "overclock failed" messages so far?

  • Can't seem to disable onboard video on MSI motherboard 661FM3-L

I have the following motherboard: MSI 661FM3-L. I'm running a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with 1gb Ram on it. The motherboard works fine when I use the onboard video. I've now installed an ATI PowerColor 256 AGP 8x graphics card but the motherboard doesn't seem to use it. I plug the monitor into the graphics card and I can see the boot screen and go to bios but when windows begins to load the screen is all scrambled and then the monitor goes blank. I've changed in bios the first video setting (i'm not currently infront of the computer but its something along those lines) from PCI to AGP but I've noticed that when the systems first boots, on the first screen on the bottom line it shows the details of the onboard video card - SIS 651. It does not display the first splash screen of the ATI video card and so I'm guessing the onboard video is not properly disabled. I've checked the user manual and it does not state if there are any jumpers I need to change on the motherboard or if I need to change anything in BIOS. Can anyone help.
    Thanks

    apologies for lack of detail:
    System:
    MSI 661FM3-L
    Intel P4 3.0GHz
    1gb KingMax DDR400 DIMM
    Western Digital 80Gb HDD
BIOS - latest update from MSI Live Update
WinXP + SP2 + all latest Windows Updates
    Problem:
System works fine using on-board video.
Install PowerColor ATI 9600 Pro 256MB DDR AGP 8X video card, plug monitor to video card, system boots fine but when it gets to windows loading screen, the screen is all jumbled and then eventually screen goes black and monitor receives no signal. Attempted to load in windows Safe Mode and same thing happens.
Checked BIOS settings. Can't find anything to disable onboard video other then the "first video" setting which I changed from PCI to AGP.
The first boot screen which displays Memory count and Primary and Slave drives, displays a message on the bottom of the screen saying "SiS651" which is the name of the onboard video. Also there is no first splash screen of the ATI video card which I'm pretty sure should be seen before the first boot screen.
Performed MSI LiveUpdate of BIOS in DOS mode and this didn't change anything.
Video Card works fine on another PC.
Motherboard manual does not specify to change any jumpers or BIOS settings.
