Never used it myself, so I'm not sure if you can set to about:home or not. You'll have to give it a try.

You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
You can look at one of these extensions:
    * NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
    * New Tab Homepage : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

The only "unlimited" plan I can think of where this would not apply is the old Connect plan for multimedia/basic phones.  That unlimited data, on devices such as the LG Voyager, EnvTouch, and other "multimedia" devices is  not the same.
If you currently have an individual $29.99 unlimited data plan with a 3G Smartphone, then you can buy a BBQ10 retail and activate it with the same data plan and keep the unlimited.

open a new tab, it shows a Yahoo Search page. How do I change this?

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

Found the answer in another thread discussing the same problem. Hit Ctrl and click the Home icon at the same time. Works great!

  • How do you prevent a random website from automatically opening when you add a new tab?

When I click to open a new tab (with the plus sign), this website automatically opens: http://www.searchqu.com/web?src=derr&appid=113&systemid=406&q=http%3A%2F%2F and says "search: oops! the website you were looking for could not be opened." i tried the new URL extension with the home page selected, and tried other related advice on here. none of it is working. i did cleans of my system with AVG and malware software. etc etc. also, sometimes i will be on a website and it will randomly switch to this website and keep me from accessing the correct one. help!

hello cstien, you can either try to install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ searchreset addon] to reset the new tab page or manually change the relevant settings:
enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.newtab.url''' and double-click & change its value to about:blank (the default would be about:newtab which shows thumbnails & links to your most visited pages).

  • When opening a new tab, Firefox often freezes for a few seconds until the page has loaded completely.

When I open a new tab, the tab must load completely before Firefox will respond at all. I cannot do anything in Firefox; Windows and the rest of my programs that are running are unaffected. This happens randomly, but it is more common on certain websites. How do I fix this?
    Thanks!

Please check for the problem in [[safe mode|safe mode]].. does it work there?

  • When I open a new tab I would like it to open to either my home page or a search page, can this be done?

As of right now when I open a new tab it is a blank page. I would like a new tab to go right to my home page or open a search option. I could not find a way to make Firefox do that. Is it an available option?

  • Everytime I open a new tab, it is a blank search page (Bing)..how do i change it ?

When starting Firefox my set homepage shows up, but everytime I open a new tab it goes to a blank search page automatically. How do I change it so my homepage will show every time a tab is opened?

    I'm using Firefox 3.6.10
When I opened a new tab, Bing search showed up. When I start up Firefox for the first time, Google remained my home page.
I went to Tools, Add-Ons where I found a Search Toolbar that was powered by Bing. After I disabled it, new tabs opened up blank.
I downloaded Google Toolbar and now my new tabs are Google again.

  • Firefox 4 has massive delay opening a new tab with audio content, Firefox 3.6.16 opens the same link instantly, why?

When I open a new tab to stream an audio mp3 file from the server. Firefox 3.6.16 streams the audio instantly, Firefox 4 has really long delay with just white blank page, befor it comes with QT player. why?

I've been searching for a solution for this for months. Frankly, I'm sick of Mozilla ignoring this problem, which has persisted from version 4 through 6. Makes me ill.
The content is actually downloading, but Firefox hides the content until the entire file is downloaded. It used to display and allow you to play the partially downloaded content. Safari does this with ease. If someone can point out the parameter in about:config that controls this, I'd be grateful.

  • When I click on links in my e-mail, I get the Start Page instead of the link page

    Hello:
When I click on an e-mail link, I get my Start Page instead of the
Link Page. My e-mail is Thunderbird and my default browser is
    Firefox.
    Thanks

This is a known bug, and has been for years. It occurs when Firefox is your default browser and some glitch (or program) changes that default. Thankfully, there's a fairly easy fix, though it does involve monkeying around in the Registry.
(Note: These instructions apply to Windows Vista and 7 only.)
    1. Click Start, type regedit, and then press Enter.
    2. Navigate to the following entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec
    3. In the center pane, double-click the Default entry, then remove whatever value is there (it'll probably be a weird string of numbers and commas).
    4. Click OK, then exit Regedit.
    5. If Outlook and/or Firefox are open, close them, then restart them.

I am using windows 7 pro this issue has drove me crazy for some time, now finally it's fixed by doing the exact same steps as above, hope this works for everybody that is having this problem. I just had to share this with my fellow firefox users. :)

  • I just downloaded the Firefox 4 version and it doesn't seem any different. I can't find the place that tells me what version of Firefox I now have. The start page still has the download the Firefox 4 now on it. I have Vista OS. Thanks,

I watched the video on Firefox 4, then restarted computer to let the changes taking effect as the update stated. When the computer started again there was no changes and I can't find it in the downloads or file changes as to what edition of firefox I know have.

Do you have an orange Firefox button in the upper left, or do you have the customary menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc.)?
Either way, you can check your current Firefox version using Help > About Firefox.
To switch from having a menu bar to having the orange button, right-click in a blank area after Help and uncheck Menu Bar. Then, to display the menu bar temporarily, you can tap the Alt key or press the F10 key.
Regarding the start page, there must be something just a little bit custom about the address. Otherwise, you would have been changed to '''about:home''' which is the new start page.

  • "When you create a new tab, the Location bar will be focused so you can just start typing the name or address of the website you want to go to" Um...no it doesn't. IN the "improved" Firefox 5, the focus remains on the previously opened tab...very annoying

New tabs are not getting focus. Typing an address after opening a tab opens the address in the first tab, not in the tab that was just opened

Tools > Options > Tabs: [ ] "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately"
This issue can be caused by an add-on that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
