How to edit cropped version in Photoshop?

Once I crop an image in Aperture and then open it in Photoshop it opens the original version. Is there any way to have Photoshop open the version that has been cropped in Aperture?

Bit annoying you can't make further edits on photos already edited by Photoshop though - maybe this is a feature that Apple could include in Aperture 4?
But you can.  As Ernie mentioned, if you select the Image that has been edited externally and then had adjustments added and create a duplicate Version, Aperture will "bake in" your adjustments (or "flatten" the Image) and send to your external editor a file with all the Adjustments included.
Aperture gives you the option to either "bake in" your adjustments prior to sending back to an external editor, or to re-edit the Original, and have the adjustments applied to the changed Original when it is returned.
This particular design -- what Ernie has himself (iirc) christened "Pseudo-Originals" -- is difficult to understand at first, but remains practicable.  Here is what Aperture does:
- All Images are created by applying the adjustments and metadata changes specified in the Version file -- it's just a text file of instructions -- to an Original image-format file.  This is done on-the-fly.
- When you first send an Image to an external editor from within Aperture, Aperture creates a new Version and sends that Version to the external editor.  After you make changes in your external editor and save your changes, they are reflected _in the Original of the newly created Version.  (This is what Ernie calls the "Pseudo-Original".)
- If you select this Image in Aperture and send it back to your external editor, Aperture sends _the Original_, and keeps the Version file.  You (again) edit the Original, and any adjustments or metadata changes you've made are re-applied after you close the file in the external editor.
- When you want to edit _the Version_ of a previously-externally-edited Image in you external editor, you must manually create a new Version in Aperture first.  Select the Image, and "File➞Duplicate Version".  Then select this newly created Version, and send it to your external editor.  All of your adjustments will show.
This is easily seen in practice.
- Select an Image
- Rotate it 45° in Aperture (Original is unchanged; Version shows rotation)
- Send it to your external editor (New Original with rotation is created, new Version shows new Original)
- Crop away 80% of it (Crop shows in external editor)
- Save your changes and close the file (Original is cropped; Version is still just passing through the Original with no additional adjustments)
Your cropped, rotated Image should show in Aperture (you might have to force Aperture to create a new Preview: hold the Option key and run "Photo➞Generate Preview").
- In Aperture, apply a Black & White adjustment (Original is still cropped; Version shows grayscale)
- Duplicate this Version
- Select both Versions (one colored and one grayscale) and send them to your external editor.
You should see one file cropped and colored, and one file cropped and grayscale.  In the first case, you are editing the Original that does not include the B & W adjustment (it will be applied back in Aperture after you close and save the file in the external editor).  Note that, like all adjustments, this can be removed by unchecking the box at the top left of the Adjustment Brick.  In the second case, you are editing a new (Pseudo-) Original that has been made by "baking in" the B & W adjustment.  This adjustment cannot be removed.

Only newer versions of ACR are.  All other bloat is not.
I have all Photoshop versions of Photoshop from v.5.0.x through Photoshop 13.0.6 on my Macs.
I find myself working in CS4 for most of my Photoshop editing, using CS6 13.0.6 only for the ACR to PSD conversion and whatever editing can be done in ACR.  Both versions run simultaneously on my desktop Mac Pro all the time.
By all means do download the trial version.  I've been able to discard a whole bunch of upgrades that way in Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat, as well as avoid buying Lightroom and all other Adobe applications.
Adobe's trial versions are a wonderful feature and a much appreciated, rare courtesy by Adobe.

  • How to edit a PDF in Photoshop CS4

    Hi there,
I'm having some real trouble trying to figure out how to edit a PDF in photoshop cs4. So i need to edit/change text, move things around, that type of thing.
    I work in Windows.
Could someone give me a bit a low down on how this is done?
    Much appreciated,
    Victoria

You can open them but you will totally rasterize everything.
PDFs are not intended to be edited. They are a final format but as
mentioned you can use Acrobat for some minor text edits or use it to
extract the images to Photoshop for further editing.

  • How to edit PSD files on Photoshop Creative Cloud

    Hi there,
I am new to Creative Cloud and just downloaded the Photoshop App to my desktop. However, I can't seem to find the options where I can edit my psd files. Can someone please help me? I would like to know how I can start editing PSD files on the Photoshop Creative Cloud App.
    Thank you so much!

    HI Resumeboston16,
Which version of Photoshop are you using? Photoshop CC?
You'll probably still want to save you PSD files locally to the computers hard drive. You can upload them to the Creative Cloud files page here https://creative.adobe.com/files through the browser.
Then you could download it on another computer to work on it there.

  • How to download older versions of Photoshop

    Hello,
I purchased the Photoshop CS about 5 years ago. My machine became dead and I no longer have the CD with me but I saved the serial number. Could I download this old version again?

I would not expect Adobe to have downloads of older versions of PS available, though could be wrong on this. If you have your S/N and you registered your copy of PS, Adobe will have a record of that - look in your Adobe ID User Account. I do not know how far back Adobe offers replacement discs for their programs, but they might be able to sell you a replacement disc for your version. To do so, they will need your Adobe User ID and your S/N, so have those handy, when contacting them.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS always guard all installation discs, and never throw any away. I still have mine from ver. 2.5, plus every other Adobe program that I own. This goes back for decades, and is probably over 100 CD/DVD's.

  • How to insert cropped images from photoshop without the white background

Basically all I want to do is take a peice of writing from a video and insert it into another video. To do this I've took a screenshot of the font from the video and imported it into photoshop. I've then cropped/cut/took the the peice of writing I want, letter by letter. I want to be able to insert it into another video, but whenever I attempt to do it, I have the default white background of photoshop. Is there anyway to insert an image from photoshop, without taking the background with it, or even insert a layer from photoshop straight into final cut pro? Sorry if this is confusing.

I don't think so. I cropped the letters, put them each an individual file, removed the background, saved them as a TIF then tried to import them onto Final Cut Pro, but a white background still appeared in the TIF file. Basically I just want to make the background transparent I believe.

  • How can I crop again in photoshop?

This is the error message I get on my macbookair. It previously worked and now all of a sudden it does not. I have creative cloud and running latest mountain lion.
Anyone know how I can resolve this? I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I have 58.86GB of storage space.

Could not build the Crop preview because of a program error.

Thank you! When I did what you said it asked me if I wanted to reset everything. So I was wary of resetting all my tools so I looked that up and ended up resetting the crop tool only.
Basically, I did what was on the thread below. I just right clicked the chosen tool, in this case the crop tool, and clicked "reset tool" And it fixed it. I would've never gotten this on my own. Thank you again.

  • External Application Editing of Versions

I understand that when you edit a version, in PhotoShop for example, that Aperture will make the changes that were applied in PS and save this to the version. The tutorial says that Aperture automatically saves this new version in the Aperture library. BUT, what happens if the originals are Referenced files? Will the new version be saved in the referenced folder along with the original?

you cannot imagine how much i wish that there would be a really good way to edit
    keywords in Lightroom
I too have a lot of keywords in nested structures.
If i now enter a new keyword (or getting one via import) it's nearly unusable to bringt those new keywords into my existing strukture. Only way is Drag/Drop the keyword thru the whole list, wait on an entry to unfold it etc., then scroll back to where the new keywords are (now at a different place because some sub-groups are opened now) etc.
Once you have re-organized 20 new keywords in such a list of hundreds of keywords you know: You won't do this again.
Export/Re-Import keywords is no option as you have found out. You  cannot rename existing keywords or re-structure them as sub-keywords  without getting duplicates and even more work than before.
Keyword handling in LR still is very(!) limited and a bit "silly" for a Version 3 that is used by so many professionals (isn't it?).
I won't start talking about having a user-defined order for the keywords to put the most fitting keyword upfront following by other keywords... That's editing the metadata of a picture... no, i'm still talking about managing the keyword-tree itself. Nearly unusable/impossible with LR3, still.
Having a Dialog with two Keyword-Trees side-by-side to be able to drag/drop from one to the other would be a good starting point.

  • How do I resolve: "Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error message?

Photoshop document created in current version of PSCC2014, now will not crop, resize, etc without throwing compatibility error.
"Could not complete the Crop command because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
How do I resolve without recreating the file?

    Ooops.  Hit save reply prematurely.
You may be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG preview of your file in Adobe Illustrator, GraphicConverter (Mac only) or some such application, but your layers will be gone.
The problem of working across a network is that it's not supported by Adobe:
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • FAQ: How do I migrate my saved presets from an earlier version of Photoshop or import/export them?

You now have the option to migrate presets from a previous version, export presets and to save to a directory as a zip file (great for instructors).
Preset Migration migrates your saved presets, not your preferences. The message says "Would you like to migrate presets from the following versions?"  It simply carries on the preset files you have already saved (things like Brush Tips, HDR Toning presets, Curve presets, Styles etc.)  to CS6.
HOW TO USE PHOTOSHOP CS6 AUTOMATED PRESET MIGRATION
Photoshop CS6 offers the great new functionality of automated preset migration for your custom presets from Photoshop versions as far back as CS3.
When Photoshop CS6 launches for the first time, it checks for previous installations of Photoshop on the computer to see if there are custom presets that need to be migrated. Photoshop looks in each of these presets folders for your saved custom preset files that it can migrate.
Preset migration script copies all the files in user preset folders of older versions. If there are more than one preset files with the same name, presets from the newer version will be given priority. These types of presets will be migrated by the script:
3DLUTs, Actions, Black and White, Brushes, Channel Mixer, Color Books, Color Swatches, Contours, Curves, Custom Shapes, Deco, Duotones, Exposure, Flash 3D, Gradients, HDR Toning, Hue and Saturation, Levels, Lighting Effects, Lights, Materials, Meshes, Optimized Colors, Optimized Output Settings, Optimized Settings, Patterns, Render Settings, Repousse, Scripts, Styles, Tools, Video, Volumes, Widgets, Zoomify, and Workspaces
If this is not your first launch and you would like Photoshop to look for presets,
Choose Edit > Presets > Migrate Presets
When Photoshop notices that you have custom presets saved in their appropriate folders it will give the message "Would you like to migrate presets from the following versions?"
Choose Yes. Photoshop will begin the preset migration script.
When the migration has completed Photoshop will pop up another message saying:
"Preset files from older versions successfully migrated"
In order to use your newly migrated presets, you must restart Photoshop.
If you had Photoshop CS6 beta installed and have saved custom presets, you will need to export those presets before uninstalling the previous version and installing the release version of Photoshop CS6.
    HOW TO SAVE PRESETS
For PS, check that you have saved all your presets using:
Edit>Preset Manager... (in previous versions) Edit>Presets>Preset Manager... (in CS6)
HOW TO IMPORT AND EXPORT PRESETS
    In the main PS menu,
    Choose Edit > Presets > Export/Import Presets
In this dialog you can export the presets and then import them when you load the new version using the same Export/Import dialog.
If you have gone through the automated preset migration and notice that some of your presets didn't get migrated with the rest, make sure you have exported your presets to their default folders.
    PRESET FILE LOCATIONS:
(Note that there are two different folder locations for presets, one for application provided default presets, and one for user created preset files)
These are the presets that are unique to each user on the computer. These can be migrated automatically: (this is the location that the user should save their personal presets in)
    Windows:  Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Presets
    Mac:  Users/[Username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Presets
These are the default presets that ship with Photoshop.  These presets can be imported but will not copy over using the migrate feature because each version of Photoshop will install defaults for that version.
    Windows 64 bit:
        [Hard Drive]:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets
    WindowsXP and Windows7 32 bit:
          [Hard Drive]:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets
    Mac:
        [Hard Drive]/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Presets
    Frequently used preset filename extensions:
    ABR  Brush preset
    ACO  Swatch preset
    ASL  Style preset
    ATN  Action preset
    CSH  Custom Shape preset
    GRD  Gradient preset
    PAT  Pattern preset
    SHC  Contour preset
    Here is a helpful tutorial:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-photoshop-cs6/preset-migration-and-sharing/

Do you have an  iPhoto Library from the old machine? If you have then simply open it - there's no importing involved.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
If you don't have an actual library there is no way to do what you want.
