How to edit phone numbers in contacts for text messages

My number is blocked so others can't see my phone number.  In order to unblock my number for friends and relatives, I added *82 in front of those phone numbers in my contact list to override the block and show my number.  So here's the problem -- when I want to send a new text message to someone in my contact list (whose number is preceded by *82), I need to edit the number to remove those extra characters in order to be able to send a text message to them.  Is there any way I can edit the phone number from within the messaging function?
Thanks.

I am havng a similar problem that I can't figure out. I have mutiple numbers for each contact. i.e. mobile with *82, mobile without *82 for texting, home number, work number etc...  I would like for them to come up in a spicific order. The two mobile numbers first and then home and work. That way I can get to the mobile numbers first as those are most used. Also so to save time knowing that all contacts are in the same order.  So far it has been random for each contact. Some come up mobile first either with or without *82, others come up home first and some come up work first. I have tried deleting the entire contact and starting over thinking that the first number you enter becomes the primary. That didn't work. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

    There are two ways.
    1. Turn up the volume to max with the buttons on the side of the phone.
    2. Go to Settings > Sounds > Turn the slider under Ringer and alerts all the way to the right.
    Good luck.

  • How to edit phone number in contact?

I'm using Skype 5.1.0.968 on latest  Mac OS and cannot figure how to edit/change/delete a phone number that I have created in the contacts list.  I've tried everything I can think of!!!

Snowcreative gives a perfect description of the problem that Mac users of Skype version 5.3.x are facing. Here's some additional detail. If you type in a number to place a Skype-Out call and then wish to add that number to your Skype Addresses, you right click the number that appears in the left column and select "Show Profile". The profile appears with a button in the upper right corner that says "Add Contact". If you click that button Skype automatically creates a contact and the default action is: the contact is created and given the phone number as its name (in the top section of the profile, weird, but can be edited by a click), and in the second section of the profile the same PHONE number appears and is automatically labeled "Skype". This number CANNOT BE EDITED. THIS IS THE PROBLEM!! If I right click the word "Skype" nothing happens. If I right click the phone number the option that appears is "Copy" which is not helpful for editing. If I right click the chat icon, nothing happens. If I click on "Add Number" which appears in blue under the telephone number that has been labeled "Skype" then I can add another number. This is no help though because I already have added the number I want!! P.S. I checked my Address Book and none of the numbers that I add in Skype appear in my address book - so that is NOT the way around this. Skype grabs numbers from the address book, but does not add anything in the opposite direction. That would be a real mess!

when I type a letter in a message an old number appears. I want to delete those numbers. How?

Restoring your phone as a new device or Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings is the only way to remove this data from your phone. You either do that, or you live with it.

  • How do i display phone numbers from Contacts in large type?

The phone numbers displayed in Contacts are difficult to read for old eyes.  How do I display them in a large font size so I can read them without glasses?  Is there a setting or an alternate app that can do that?

The only thing that I know of is Settings -> General ->Accessability -> Zoom
With that on, when you tap the screen twice using 3 fingers, the whole screen zooms.  I've tried the "Large Text" feature, but it does nothing to the phone numbers in contacts, just the text portions.

The phone number format as well as the date language and format and the time format are controlled by the Region Format setting. Go to Settings > General >International > Region Format.  When you change a region format, you can go back one page (to International) and see an example of the date/time/phone number format that your selected region format will produce.

  • Max phone numbers per contact in the phonebook for...

    Hi,
I have Nokia 5300 which is running s40. I also have a Nokia N70 which is running s60.
Nokia N70 can store more than 5 phone numbers per contact where as 5300 can only store 5 which i found out when i tried sending a business vCard. I was wondering whether this is a problem because of the s40 version on 5300 and whether there is a software update for this. If not, i would just like to know what is the reason (out of curiosity - is it the 5300 hardware and runs s40 or something else ...).
    Thanks & Regards,
PS: I found out that Phonebook is part of the OS/firmware for the phone.

The S40 Nokia operating system - what the 5300 is based on - is in many ways simpler & more limited than S60/Symbian. (In some ways it is also more efficient and at least simpler/smaller.)

I've been trying to find a way to do this since I updated to IOS 7, and I've just found the solution/explanation, even tho is a bit heavy to carry out.
IOS 6 creates custom labels and save them giving you the option to delete them.
IOS 7 creates custom labels but don't save them, so there is no need to have the option to delete them.
But here comes the problem, if you have some custom labes saved in you Iphone / Ipad with IOS 6 and you update it to IOS 7, the device will keep those labels saved, but you wont be able to delete them.
I realized this by going to contacts on Icloud. There those labels that I had on my devices weren't there. So simply restoring your device and configuring it as a new one to later sync your Icloud Contacts, will solve the problem.
I know this post is old, but I might just try this with iOS 8. I have outdated custom labels that annoy me, because I still seem them in the list as options. If I get desperate enough, I may try your solution.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    or here:

  • Why can't I edit phone numbers in the dialer?

If I find a number on the Internet, it is often (at least in Sweden) typed in with country code and then an optional 0 if you're calling domesically, e.g. +46 (0) 8-402 60 00. This number isn't dialable because of the extra 0 inserted there from misguided benevolence.
My phone is also inside a switchboard and I need to add either a 0 or replace the first 0 with +46 (for a Swedish number) in front of every number to be able to make a call. Unfortunately the only way I can find to edit a phone number in the phone number dialer is to erase them from the last digit. Not very efficient if you want to replace the first digit!
Why can't I edit phone numbers anywhere in the string of numbers as anywhere else in the phone and its apps?
Now I have to copy the number either into a new contact or the notepad, edit and then dial.

Copied from my answer to your other thread for your convenience:
Unlike the iPhone, Android allows developers access to basic system functions. Although this means there are lots of apps that do interesting things like scheduling text messages (the one thing I really miss from when I had an Android), it also means the OS is significantly less secure. Apple's choice was security and stability. Google's was open platform at the expense of security and stability.

  • HT4972 I have lost most (but not all) of the phone numbers from Contacts.

This is my work iphone, connected to my work MS Exchange account.  First I upgraded to iOS5, but that caused the 3G connection to stop working (my phone contacts were still there at that point).  The IT guy at work eventually fixed the 3G connection - it was something to do with the profile being blocked, I don't know exactly, and I don't know what he did to get it working.  However, whatever he did, it caused most of the phone numbers in Contacts to disappear.  Unfortunately they're not in my Contacts in Outlook either, so I can't restore them from there.
I guess the most likely option is to restore them from the backup that occurred during the iOS5 upgrade - can someone suggest how I can do that?  Or any other ideas?
    Thanks for your help.

Contacts are not completely backed up as part of the iPhone backup.  Only contacts necessary to back up your recent call and favorites lists are backed up, which often won't include all your contacts.  (In fact, if the IT person backed up and then restored your phone from backup that may be how he lost many of your contacts.)  Also, restoring from backup will revert all settings and data on your phone to those contained in the backup.  If you want to try to restore from your backup anyway follow this procedure:
Before connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent…from syncing automatically"
Now connect your phone to your computer and import your photos to avoid losing any recent photos (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083)
Open iTunes and when your phone appears on the left sidebar, right-click on its name and choose Transfer Purchases (to transfer any recent purchased into your iTunes library)
Right-click on the name of her phone again and choose Restore from Backup, choosing the backup you wish to restore from
When this completes you can go back and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefers this

That is correct is doesn't. Standardized formatting of phone numbers in the iOS app is more important because it supports contact from a variety of locations (gmail, hotmail, etc.). iCloud doesn't (not directly).
